Comments:Years ago, as a Christian seminary student, I visited many Indian temples. In most, non-believers were welcome, but excluded from the central shrine. At Kalighat, when I expressed even a slight interest, the very friendly devotees hurried me onto into the crowd so that I could walk past and take the goddess's darshan. Since I had a special scholarly interest in Kali, I was very grateful. But beyond that, I was deeply touched by the open-hearted welcome of the devotees. It remains one of my most treasured memories of India.

Comments:Jai Maa! I am looking for other devotees in southern Louisiana, united States. Kalighat was an extremely intense experience, far more beautiful in it's simplicity and pure energy than many other temples I have visited. Though they all have the Divine Presence this made the pilgrimage the most meaningful for me. I only wish I had been able to stay and study in that holy place.

Comments:My name is Katherine Klauber and I am a religion and art student at Converse College in Greenville, South Carolina, in the U.S. I am doing a research project on Kali, focusing specifically on her symbolism and physical appearance, how it may have changed over time, and if it has, why it has changed.

Besides the general reading and finding old and new art depictions of the Goddess, I want to interview Hindus to get their view on Kali. I am curious to find out how actual Hindus (and not just researches) perceive Kali's appearance and why they do so. I would really appreciate help in this endeavor by having this site's visitors fill out an interview form or allow me to contact them by phone. Also, if you know any other Hindus who are willing to help, that would be greatly appreciated. The more people I interview, the more accurate my research will be in representing true Hindu ideas.

I can send a copy of the interview form to you through email if I have your permission to do so and you give me your email address. It is not long, and if you are unable or unwilling to answer any of the questions, that is okay.

I will tell you a small story out of so many about Kalighat
When my wife became pregnent for second time i wished to get a boy & will visit her along with the boy.But for some resone the boy was born but we could not go to her visit.Last year summer my wife & family visited kolkata I Requested her to go to temple.She replied that she is notkeeping fast & have taken nonveg I told her on phone from mumbai That nothing will happen take bath & full fill our vow.she did that Friday evening rush was little less they took the darshan & sat in Natmandir THERE ARRIVED A PORE WOMAN DESCRIBED MAA KALIS GLORY BLESSED MY FAMILY & WHEN ASKED WHERE SHE STAYS SHE SMILED & SAID HERE ONLY & DISAPPEARED IN FRONT OF EVERY BODY.IS INT IT THE LOVE SHE HAVE FOR ME & FAMILLY .MAY SHE BLESS EVERYBODY WITH THAT LOVE Indajit

i was in kalighat-temple in 1994 - it's a very strong place.
everybody should go there once in their lives ... allthough i believe there is a mis-interpretation in europeans minds when thinking of Kali only as a symbol of female strength, and expecting women to be the priestesses at the temple ... the only women I met there were worshippers or beggars. all priests are male. the one doing the sacrifice is not a priest, but a man from the lowest caste. when i asked a priest, why this is like that, he told me, that the bramin don't want to get bad karma by slaying animals. but there needs to be at least one blood-sacrifice for Kali everyday.

i went to calcutta only to be there for Kali Puja( Diwali). it sure destroyed all my illusions - and i thank MAA KALI for the deeper understanding i gained.

Comments: Hello. My name is Eduard Diaconu and I am from a town called Pitesti, in Romania. Sailing on the Internet these days, we have found a link to your website. Now, I must say that we were truely amazed by your vision over the human spirit, and by your efforts to make a difference.
I write you in the name of a small group of students living here. We are some kind of a research and study group, trying to evolve our spirit, mind, and body, and to maintain a high state of awareness regarding the reality which sourrounds us. Saddly, here in Romania it is almost impossible to do such a thing, especially when you use methods wich are generally considered as "unorthodox" (that’s becouse our main path has an oriental source). Most of the people in our country have a pretty narrow vision regarding spirituality, and anything which they can not understand, they classified it as some kind of "heresy" and never look at it again; they are refractory and rigid. Fortunately, there are also open-minded people. Their number is small and their struggle is big, but the fight for freedom will never cease.
Anyway, after a long endeavour, we have succeeded to open a public library. We had the chance to have on our side a town councilor, and with some help from him, we have officialized our group as a Non-Guvernamental Association. Then, to open this library was relatively easy. Though, we still have some minor problems in finding a proper location for it. Right now, the library is located in a pretty old building, but we hope that we will find a more propper location in short time. Well, we have just started this "adventure" with the library (a year ago, nobody knew about us), and those small problems are almost innevitable. But what was really important was done.
At the moment, our patrimony consist in approximately six hundred books and almost two hundred magazines, plus some video tapes and music on CD-s and audio tapes. The subjects of all those are centered on oriental spiritual traditions and philosophy, but we also have books focused on western spiritual paths. And, even if the vast majority of our books are in english, there are days when we have more than 10 visitors. People are really interested, especially in eastern traditions.
We also have a website. It's small and pretty unsophisticated, but, for now, it's all we can do regarding this issue. Here is the adress: www.sundari.go.ro

Today I was reading the comment of different different people in dream book I was really very shocked to read that how pandas treat with people. I've never been to Kalighat.I am in London right now.To read all these comment I am sure MAA KALI will solve that very serious problem very soon. What we have to do just believe in her and hope for the best.

Once i had been to calcutta for an exam.after writing the exam i went to kalighat temple as it was nearby.But for my ill luck i had been robbed by the pandas. ihad to put my shoes at a place shown by panda, take sweets at abnormal price as fixed by him, had to give dakshina a big amount.the pandas are more ferrocious than kali I FELT n vowed not to go to the temple again in my life time. in fact it is the mother kali who is helping the pandas in robbing the poor devotees. kali should have devoured those very pandas by removing hands or legs or making them dumb. i prayed to the mother to save me from the pandas . but unfortunately she helped them and not me. It occured to me that it is just a stone otherwise she would have responded to my sincere prayer as sincere prayers are always heard. A stone is always a stone. The mother might have already left the temple , so it is useless going there to kalighat temple, instead we can pray in the depth of our hearts rather than getting bogged up by those pandas.

i am kiranmai. i am at present living in mumbai. whenever, i hear the name of Kali Maa i wish to visit the temple and get her blessings.but i could never come there. from many years i prayed Kali Maa to see Her and get Her darshan.
i even lost hopes of seeing Her and left it to Her to give Her darshan atleast once in my life time. finally Kali Maa did. maybe, now on the ospicious days of Dussehra, Mother Kali heard my prayers and gave Her darshan in This website.
