| Comments: | Gina Gogean was perhaps the finest gymnast ever to grace the sport. Sure, she rarely smiled during competition, but why do some construe that as a flaw? In truth, her aim was not to present an image contrary to her feelings at any given time; she was not there to fool the audience. Indeed, her focus was unparalleled during competition, and she refused to needlessly force upon herself a smile which didn't at the time seem genuine or warranted.
I will miss Gina Gogean. I missed her at the Olympic Games in both Sidney and in Greece. In truth, the entire sport of gymnastics should mourn the loss of such a truly gifted athlete. Gymnastics will never be the same, at least in my eyes. I believe that I will never gaze upon any competition with as much enthusiasm or passion now that the most sincere, consistent, and beautiful gymnast in history is no longer there to entertain us. |

| Comments: | I saw yesterday the Romanian team take the Olympic gold, and the first thing that came to mind was what had happened to stars like Gogean, Milo or Amanar. All three were excellent gymnasts. It came as a surprise that anyone underrated Gogean. I always thought that most people gave her the due credit for her talent, foccus and concentration, all important qualities in a team captain.
While Milo was definitely a star and got most of the camera attention, Gogean was shy (but at the same time, gave the impression of being the main force keeping the team together). One thing that I had not realised until visiting your site, was just how beautiful she is. She does have a gorgeous smile and is by far the most graceful gymnast I can think of. Gina, if you ever read this have a great life (and thank you for lending some of your light, grace and class to ours). |

| Comments: | I started watching gymnastics in 1996. and i anticipated the
olympics in atlanta and i never knew anything about the romanian team until then. i knew who nadia comaneci was but thats all. I didnt know anyteam. ever since the olympics in atlanta. i been wondering about 2000. in atlanta i saw all gymnastics and liked watching the events and always held tightly to make sure they didnt make a mistake. this olympics would be my crossover to another frame of mind which lasted only two years dont ask why. so i was watching a full gymnastics event for the first time. I watched some earlier in the year of 1996. i was facinated to see a lot of gymnyst doing their best to win. when i read stories of romania in sports illustrated i was thinking they would win gold, at that time i was going for usa, sorry romania. If you wanna know i didnt think about romania until dominique moceanu came into the picture. she was my favorite gymnast as well as the other six who were there in the olympics. i read a lot about her in her biography. then i was thinking about romania. this sounds confusing i know and i dont see the point. because this is about gina gogean not the entire world. to make things shorter(yeah right),its like i have a facination for romania ever since. does it still have the communists who take all the money from them. well what i wanted to say was that the only time i seen gina was in the olympics in 1996 i thought i saw her at the sydney olympics but that must of been someone who resembled her. i didnt know she retired until yesterday. i was excited that i thought i saw her but it must of been the past i guess the 1996 olympics was my of being reborn. i this olympics though iwas going for the usa but when they had there problems and were out of the way for the gold and then other medals my second choice would always be romania. so any time the romanians were in competion from the start they would always be my second pic at gold. i said on the first day of the womens gymnastics in the olympics in sydney that if the usa was out of the medal picture then romania is who i would go for the gold. in the all round i somehow knew that andrea raducan would win gold, i think it was becuase of that vault incident who knows but i was still for the romanians in the all round competion since two of the three americans were out of it. but i didnt think about the americans too much after that i was always thinking that if russia is a poerhouse then you see what they do and then all of a sudden they make big mistakes which cost them valuable medels and i realized that when the russians messed up and the romanians got good scores it was romania that pummeled russia. romania swept the all round and won the team gold. i think they were a really poerful team to go against even if the russians made mistakes. they probably would of won silver if svetlana khorchina didnt make that mistake on uneven bars. since the 1996 olympics any thing i heard about romania i would be thinking gymnastics. i was thinking about romania not even worrying about the USA in gymnastics. i was going for romania most of the time. in 1996 i didnt though cause i was thinking about the usa. i liked watching gymnastics ever since. the reason i babbled was to talk about whats with me and romanians, but this is really about gina gogean. and i have been talking about the romanian gymnastics team. but i never made a point that would make any sense. i first seen gina on the first day of competetion at the 96 olympics. i dont know if id make any sense talking about her.but i never forgot her and the rest of the romanian gymnastics team. i wish she coulda been to the olympics this year so there would be some sort of signing off or something. i thought i saw her there but it was just a resemblance. i really missed the 1996 olympics but i have to let it go, i still havnt! 1996 was my best year of my life. i got depressed since then. i dont know if the olympics 2000 could cheer me up since its september but i know the romanians cheer me up a bit. whats with me and romanians?! whatever it is i like it.as for my last question. where is gina gogean, is it scotland or was that three years ago? i know youre probably getting tired of hearing me now so ill go. just in case you think im some little kid babbling. then youre wrong im some 18 year old babbling. |
