As a “Made in Cologne” label we produce a range of bags, belts and wallets made of upcycled fire hose under the Feuerwear brand. Material For a long time we looked for a material that would stand up to our high standards of durability and longevity. After having experimented with canvas, truck tarp and even jute bags, we ultimately decided on used fire hose. This material has the ideal quality for meeting our requirements. Thanks to the high-tensile polyester yarn and long-lasting synthetic rubber lining, this material is extremely tough and long-lasting. Design Additionally, fire hose also fulfils our aesthetic requirements perfectly. We want to make products that are visibly individual. After many years of fire-fighting duty each hose we use for our products bears its own unique traces and has its own story to tell. This makes every Feuerwear product a one-of-a-kind piece. And such a unique material deserves a unique design. After many sketches we finally arrived at the unmistakable look that differentiates all Feuerwear products from other bags. Production All Feuerwear products are handcrafted. But not every fire hose is suitable for every product. There are different kinds of fire hoses. Therefore our experienced staff in preproduction hand pick the hoses for each of our products. These are then cut into pieces, which later form the basis for our bags and accessories. Since these hoses are dragged through a lot of soot, grease and mud over many years of active duty, the first thing we do is clean them thoroughly. The cut-out and washed pieces of hose are then stitched by hand in a sewing shop into messenger bags, handbags, shoulder bags, belts and wallets. This requires a lot of skill and dexterity as well as special machines that are sturdy enough to sew this extremely stable material. Our environment We want to create products whose production and consumption have no negative impact on our environment – not only in the ecological sense but also in terms of social responsibility. The Feuerwear concept is based on our mission to make new products out of old material. A step up from mere recycling, this so-called upcycling process forms the basis of our production. With our products we support a modern lifestyle that goes by the name of LOHAS (Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability). And upcycling is only the first part of our commitment to the environment and sustainable development. All our products are shipped using the low-emission and energy efficient GoGreen logistics solutions of DHL. This way the carbon dioxide (CO2) produced by the transportation of our products is reduced to a minimum. And in line with the principles of fair trade, our production in Europe is done in small family-run shops with fair working conditions and wages. | |
