Comments:What a fantastic series! What a wonderful storyteller!
I was introduced to Outlander 14 years ago, but didn't begin reading the series until this year. Tremendous!

Diana draws you into the story with her characters in their various locations -- ancient Scottish countryside, Scottish castle, estate and prison, English country estate, 18th century Paris, British sailing ship, Jamaican seaport, Carolina coast, Mohawk village, Carolina pioneer mountain home. My gosh! The locations all become real with her visual, olfactory, and tactile descriptions! Diana's scope of imagination staggers me!

And such tremendous depth of understanding of human nature! The passions, strivings, and frustrations, the laughter, tears, and love; the dark side of the human soul; the whole human panoply of being. It's all here in her books! Astounding. Overwhelming. The characters are so vividly drawn that they become real.

I just gave up on trying to do housework as I finished ABSNA -- and yet I also hated to finish it! Thanks, Diana! Looking forward for more!

It is so nice to be able to keep the events straight and there are so many different things going on, that a timeline is very useful....Do you intend to update your web site??? Or do we all need to take a Lesson on how to do it for ourselves because you no longer are interested in updating the timeline???

P.S. By the way, your timeline is the best I've found, even though it doesn't cover all the books.....And I thank you for the example>>>

Comments:Hi, I especially liked ABSA because they were planning to go back to Scotland. I've been there twice and my grandfather Jamie McLaren was born there, in the Highlands. The family emigrated to Perth, Ontario, Canada. His father became a Senator in the Canadian Parliament. I have never been obsessed with a book and I read a lot but the Outlander series comes to mind every day. I wish Echo in the Bone was going to be out sooner. Thanks for doing the Timeline. Are you going to add to it at any point? I have it printed and in a binder. Cheers, JJ

She does all the voices so well, pronounces all the words in French, Gaelic, Latin, English, etc, with such surety. Just love all the characters, but as much as everyone loves Jamie, I think Roger is pretty special, too. I think the depth of the characters and the flow of description is incredible. There is simply no author to match DG.

Comments:I found you courtesy of The Outlandish Companion. I'm new to the series, but I am hooked. Outlander was recommended by a friend who knows that my reading tastes lean toward long, historical/fantasy/character -driven, but mostly long. I started Outlander at said friend's behest, who happens to own the entire series (so far) and was thrilled beyond measure, as not only does Diana Gabaldon write with a very readable wit and style, the characters are so genuine! That was eight days ago, and as I begin The Fiery Cross, (I read very, very quickly) I am happy as can be to know that there are others out there who feel the same.

Comments:Your characters are SO alive, your stories captivating and relentless. Your books are part of a select few that I've devoured. Not many books have me reading at all hours and all situations. Picture me standing at dinner table reading a paragraph or two, ripping myself from your book to start dinner, then cooking at the stove, then back to the dinner table when time permits... you get the idea.

You've been generous enough to read new exerpts and sign my books a number of times (I live near Toronto, Canada) and I can't thank you enough for that, Diana. Touring looks to be a gruelling job. At the "Breath of S&A" signing, you barely had any voice left, yet you still read to us.

I hope your books never get made into films or mini series. As wildly popular are the Harry Potter movies, they never do the books justice and I'm sure your stories would suffer the same. (Unless perhaps you had someone with a "Lord of the Rings" mentality.) Still, I prefer the voices and faces in my head to those of some director.

Thank you for writing of a world I can escape momentarily the drudges of everyday life.
May your characters never stop talking to you, Diana.

Comments:I absolutely love all these books. I have reread them several times, am rereading again and am on "Fiery Cross", hopefully when i get done again the next one will be out.
I too also speak( or try to) in the different accents. Theses are the only books I find myself gettin emotionally involved in. I do not believe I have ever cried while reading another book or series. I was heartbroken when Ian had to stay with the Mohawks. It really tore me up.
I hope to meet Diana someday (we both live in Az) I have so many questions for her.
I was reading just the other day and came upon Roger going through Briannas dreambook and reading about her driving in the mustang through the ridge. I was wonderin if that might be brought up in the next book. I f they go to see the ridge also in their time. That would be great I think.

Anyway I love your work, I know it has to end sometime but I hope you can keep it going for as long as you can.
Thank you so much.

While chatting on LibraryThing.com, someone mentioned this "fantasy" book that is about time travel and they raved about how great it was. So I gave it a read. Wow. The real fantasy in this book is not the time travel, it's Jamie himself. This is my favorite book of all time, hands down. As I said I am new and I am just starting to read Dragonfly in Amber. I hope this book does the same thing for me.

Comments:I started to read these books when i was just a freshmen in highschool(im only 21 now) on a whim. Outlander was just lying on the bookshelf at home and i needed something to read since it was the summer and couldnt get the library anytime soon( live in very small town). Im so glad i found this series. There is only 1 other person i have met that has read the series so i have a hard time explaining the story to people....you just have to read it....theres no other way to explain such a wonderful story. Claire's humor is my favorite part of the series. As i read them i try to do claires voice with a british accent as well as the other characters. Sometimes i find myself talking and thinking to myself with a weird british/scottish/spanish(im studying to be a spanish teacher) accent. I have read this series like 6 times and can never get enough. Jamie reminds me of my dad, since he is left handed, auburn hair and strong(not that tall though).Love them all!!!! cant wait to see what happens in an Echo of Bone....exciting!!

I have read the series three times and awaiting the next book. I even got my parent, mother-in-law and my husbands step mother hooked on the series. I think sometimes I would love for them to make a movie series of the books but I don't want them to mess up the story but cutting things out. Another of my favorite authors, Liz Curtis Higgs, writes about historical Scotland, too. When I asked her if she'd ever read Diana Gabaldon, her comment was "oh, yes, you mean the Queen of historical romance?" I tend to agree. Keep on Diana. I have realized that if we were to be in that time he would have like those highlanders that you have described. Your writing has also brought a new passion to my marriage as I now am able to give myself wholy over to my love for my husband. In otherwords I feel as Claire did for Jamie; with him I have a whole life without it would only be half of one.
I found a kindred spirit in Clair and I hope to be even more dazzled by your next book and those after.
I also hope that some day it will be made into a movie or miniseries.
I really enjoyed the historical facts not only because it added depth to the story but also because of my Scottish heritage.

Favorite Diana Gabaldon book: All of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comments:I don't have a favorite book, but I enjoyed the first books when they were in Scotland the best. I'm looking forward to the next book as they are going "home" for a visit. I'm hoping Brianna & Roger will rejoin them there. I went to a book signing in August and Diana was great! She read a chapter from the new book, so I feel like I've sneaked a peak at a Christmas present. I'm going to read her new Lord John book next but then I will go back to Outlander and start over. I just miss everyone too much.

Comments:when is your new book coming out??!! I have already read A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

It's funny but when I read each of your books, from the start - I imagine the characters speech and as I read each book I can imagine the characters growing older and their speech changing also. I can almost hear a voice like Catherine Hepburn talking as Claire in the a Breath of Snow and Ashes. Jamie's voice is also getting pretty low and mature from the first book of Outlanders when he has a humorous high voice like Ian has now.

I hope your book comes out soon as I can't wait to see what you do with the characters that have gone back to their own time. Somehow I can't imagine that Brianna and her family will stay in the present. I think she will read through her mother's letters and hope to do some changing of history. I think maybe her father may need to be saved again.
