Now when I listen to it, it simply makes me feel profoundly sad. It takes me back to a place and a time that can never come again. Best Wishes, Kimberly

Comments:I have been a fan of The Journeymen since their first record. I performed as a folk singer and toured extensively from the early 1960's through the mid 1970's. Still performing once a year these days but still listen to The Journeymen records weekly. Mr. McKenzie has one of those rare voices that ALWAYS brings joy to my ears and puts a smile on my face. His work on "Dark as a Dungeon" and "The Waggoner's Lad" are particularly inspiring to me and a number of my friends who grew up on the music of The Journeymen. In my opinion, the music world is a better place for having had the privilege of hearing Scott's work. I will always be appreciative...

It means a lot to so many people and is a true timeless classic. I can't think of the city without singing the song in my head - this is no bad thing! Best wishes to Scott and everyone here.

Comments:Around 1971, I was a Form 2 (or 8th grade in the US standard) student in Hong Kong. My home room teacher, Mr. Keith Robertson from England, showed us a short 8mm movie that he just borrowed from the US Embassy in Hong Kong. The movie was about life in San Francisco. Your song, "San Francisco," was played from start to finish in the movies. I loved it right away and it has been my all time Number One hit! Thirty some years later, I finally found and "purchased" your song through Time-Life. Thanks a lot.

I haven't been to San Francisco yet but hope to make it soon. I went to LA last year and I listened to the music of the time and I felt like it was still a time for peace and love. Maybe it will be again some day.

For me the 60's were peaceful and love was all over, the Flowers In Your Hair song couldn't fit in better, it was a beautiful time in history that no other generation ever experienced. On your bio where you dedicate your song to Vietnam Veterans, it's deeply appreciated.

Comments:Dear Scott, Your voice singing "San Francisco" has been so important to me (and to millions of others around the world). I am almost 50, and when I heard it tonight I had to come google Scott McKenzie just to see how you're doing. When I was a kid, a really little kid, about 8 yrs old, I would listen to this song and realize that there was a better way. Even though at that age I couldn't articulate it, all through my (pretty awful) kid and teen years, I hung on to your song like a lifeline. Didn't know why at first, but it had healing powers! As I grew older and understood the politics of the 60s, the war, Civil Rights, etc, the song grew more deeply meaningful to me, and was always that healing thing, that private lifeline. Now, the really interesting thing is, after a horrible heartbreaking divorce 10 years ago, I met the love of my life (about 5 years ago); right before I met him I was humming the song. He turned out to be, yep, you guessed it, from SF, and we have been there together, and I wore the flowers in my hair as a sign of new hope, new love, gentle people, people in motion. Your voice is the voice of our generation, singing the good parts, the best parts. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Anne

Comments:Best wishes to you, Scott. I was just playing one of my all-time favorite songs, and, out of curiosity, had to find out more about the man behind one of the most beautiful male voices I have ever heard. The other voice I think of is that of John Phillips. I simply enjoy music, never study it, so only now I learned that you two performed together. San Francisco is a timeless masterpiece and so are you. I wish you well and hope you will be around on this earth for along time.

Comments:Scott, I remember your song from '68 and '69 and still listen to it to this day. I listened to it after coming off the line in the Gulf of Tonkin and especially standing on the deck of Enterprise returning home in '69 under the Golden Gate Bridge. I was young and recently married when I visited San Francisco in 68 and actually met several flower children although, like several of my collegues, we were in the military. Your song has stayed with me all those years and remains embedded in my memory. When I listen to San Francisco there is always a flood of memories, many of which are friends long departed. I may take this song to my grave, literally. Thanks and good luck. Gene

I was to be conscripted into the Australian Army for Vietnam in a year or two and boy I was scared. The music at the time sure did help me at least deal with the issues. I can remember my Mum and Dad saying "that music will not last"! What, 40 years later, it still moves me when I hear it on the radio.

Comments:Hi Mr. McKenzie, I was watching a fund raising program for PBS earlier this evening transmitted from Spokane, Washington. The theme was music from the 60's. As is usual, there is much solicitation for funding and a few performances. You were one of the selected performers. I have never seen you sing your song. I consider the event of watching you tonight to be a totally rewarding experiece. It was perfect, a beautiful strong voice, excellent pitch and tone, and most important believe in the words you were conveying. This was a recent performance (not sure where), but am sure you are not getting older just a whole lot better. Thank you for this wonderful gift. Best Regards, Barbara

Comments:Scott: We have much in common. We are about the same age, enjoy many of the same films, and, most importantly, we honed our youth when this country really changed-- in the turbulent, tormented, creative, and evocative 60's. I tried to capture that mood in my first novel, "Landon's Odyssey." After starting it twenty years ago, the sound, sights, and fury of that decade were echoing through my head, to include the music of love, protest, and seeing life through a different lens. And, yes, that includes your anthem of the counter culture: "If You Are Going to San Francisco." I had to get those sensations from my head to paper in an attempt to encapsulate some of the seminal highlights of the age. "Landon's Odyssey" is an epic journey of mystery, romance, and adventure that brings us back to the Vietnam War, those who protested against it, the sexual revolution, the drug culture, the civil rights movement, and the psychedelic world of the hippies. The book's denouement occurs in "the Haight." I can tell you this self-published work has been well-received, especially by those of our generation. I think we need more tales from that period in American life when the country looked into the mirror and did not like what it saw. For better or worse, that's why it changed. Therefore, I recommend you go my publisher's web site, www.authorhouse.com. Then select "bookstore" link to preview the book. Yep, your big hit is mentioned (title, artist only to avoid copyright issues) to amplify one of the chapters. If you want a closer look, please send me your contact info and I can send you a signed, dedicated copy for $25 (includes my costs). Sorry for being so mercenary, but I think you appreciate the self-serving reasons to promote your work if you are a first-timer in the wacky world of publishing. I have done a few book readings to promote my work. Who knows? Maybe it's an opportunity to combine forces. You sing about the 60's; I read about it. In conclusion, I hope you are well, still singing with your unique tones, and looking back with fondness for the many you touched with your music.

You told me there was a world out there that had a place with other people like me.Your voice opened the door for a lot of us,In the world of today with all of our technology, I wish we could go back through that door...At least for a little while... I hope to meet you on the next level....Peace my Friend

Comments:I found some old CD's today and played "San Francisco" and it just took me right back to the 1968. We visited San Francisco that summer and it was so beautiful -- it's too bad that time can never come back. I guess "San Francisco" is one of my favorite songs of all time, because of the beauty of the song and the memories it evokes in me.

Comments:Dear Mr. McKenzie, Good evening. Thank you so very much for attaching your marvelous voice to the ultimate peace song "San Francisco." Even though others were also responsible for the creation and execution of the final product, most people in the world will always think of you when they hear that song. Even though I am 38 years old (born too late), I do consider myself a sort of "hippy," minus the 20-something naivete. A cynical, yet hopeful 38-year-old flower child. Thanks again for your exuberant gift to the world.

I was too young to join the hippies flocking to San Francisco, but I wore a daisy hair wreath once during 1967. It was the closest I got to being there.

Comments:Hi Scott I'm glad to be able to write to you. I was 10 in 1967 when San Francisco was released so I did not identify with the sentiments of the song until the early 70's. It is a powerful sone but simple in style and melody - a tirbute to John Phillips. Your vocals are stunning and does not overpower the song. I put the song in my Top 5 of all time alone with The Beatles "Strawberry Fields", Procul Harum "Whiter Shade Of Pale", The Byrds "Eight Miles High" and Bob Dylan "Like A Rolling Stone." A wonderful time for Western culture - it only lasted 18 months but the significance has lasted 4 decades.

I remember the song "Five Hundred Miles" the best and I still have that album. I looooove your voice and love to hear you sing all the songs. From the sounds of these websites it doesn't seem that you love your talent as much as we do. I can't understand why. We will go on embracing the melodies and memories you've given us. I guess it is now in a different era to when the song was playing in the '60. I went to visit the Haight and playing your song "Sanfrancisco" on my Ipod, to relieve the lifestyle in those day of the '60 and '70. The Haight still try to maintain its hippy styles in the area. I also managed finding a few houses that once belonged to the past Rock Artist of it era. "Sanfrancisco" would always be the song of its time - Scott you sang the song well, thanks!

One of our regular songs was Scott's gem - San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair). Well, we became welcome patrons. The locals loved that song as much as we did. My friend came to work, grabbed my hand and asked "Have you heard our song?" I just grinned back because I knew exactly what he was talking about. It is still my SONG OF SONGS 40 some years later. Comments:6/29/2008 We attended a concert with Barry McGuire and John York last night. Barry's theme “Trippin the Sixties” reflects on the wonderful creative period when so much great music was created by extremely talented young people. Barry is the consumate story teller and payed homage to Scott McKenzie and the recording session when John Phillips was “sleeping on the floor” and how Scott filled in and created history with his magical performance on San Francisco. Some things are meant to be. Peace.

Comments:Scott......Glad to know that you are still around, and singing San Francisco. Being 10 yrs your junior (59) I have always loved the music that was wrote and sung from the mid to late 60's. I moved from Spokane Washington in 83', and in 86' I became the bodyguard for a local bar band that did the music from that era. One nite they asked me to sing with them as I was doing harmony already with them. I said ok, if they would let me sing one song I loved. I sang San Francisco. I have a natural high voice, and when the song ended, we got a standing ovation for 10 minutes. I sang up till 97', and was diagnosed with throat cancer. Thank you Scott for this song. Singing it was the happiest 11 yrs of my life. Peace....

Comments:Hi Scott. In 1967, my first girlfriend and I called this "our song". The Summer of Love was spent in Boston, an introduction to what would prove to be a dramatic few years in the country and in my life. Thank you so much for the positive energy you put into the universe. It is time well spent.

Comments:Scott, You are so awesome! I hope you read this email, because when I was growing up in 72, on our college road trips I would listen to your music over and over again on the radio. That San Fransico radio station would play it every so often, I just loved it! It made me run alot better and always made me very happy! My favorite trips were going to San Fransisco and it was raining during my cross-country races with the University of Nevada, Reno. You had a beautiful song: "San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)". Thank you so much for the music. I also learned you helped with other music as well. I never knew it but it sure clicked on me that you were behind it, then I was not surprised! It was from you we got this great music. I do not know where you are, but I always will remember you! I think you are the greatest! Time has gone by so fast, people today really do not know what great music we had during our times. I hope you are ok, and have a happy life. Thank you for your time, take care always. Gilbert Gonzalez

I love to hear the song San Francisco. The song is still played often I hear it on SIRIUS Satelite radio 60's channel. Also it was played this morning May 15, 2008 on Godd Morning America Channel 7 ABC. I always let everyone know what a great song it is & Scott sings it really well too!

Comments:You gave an impromptu performance at the San Jose State Student Union in the early 1970s. I sat only a few feet away from you and was spellbound by your talent. I nearly wore out my brother's copy of you song "Rooms." Someone at SJS requested it, and you told us that you no longer sing that song. I have never found the lyrics for it online. I am certain that many of us still grieve for it. Thank you for the concert. I felt blessed. Kitty

Comments:Hi Scott - From my wife and I we wanted to tell you we enjoy your music so much. It brings us so much joy. For myself, having grown up in the 60's, your music still has a fresh sound. My daughter who is 8, loves your signature song. She asks me to play it over-and-over, which is fine with me. In fact, as I am signing here, I am grooving to your tune. Anyway, we appreciate all your wonderful music you have given the world. God Bless Always...

Now for question time, being an aspiring guitar player, what are the cords for 'We've Been Asking Questions?" That song stands for all who've gone to war and those who haven't and the parents... Such a beautiful song, will you ever record it??? PLEASE DO.. Mahalo, Ted
