I really like this song, which samples your song..I am glad you allowed them to sample it and want to say thanks because alot of people would'nt of allowed this, especially with it being used for a hip hop song..Once again thank you and i'll end with this,'You The Man!'

It amazes me how well the song stands up over all this time. Especially considering the whole theme/gestalt/idea of the lyrics. I imagine some people call you a one hit wonder but I tell you, if I had to choose one song to be my one hit, it would be yours. Too good man. Stay well & peace you old Hippie. Comments:In the 1970's I bought one of Scott's CD's containing "What's the Difference". It immediately became one of my favorites. Just this week I first saw this site on which Scott spoke of writing a verse in memory of John Phillps. Can't see that he ever did so I offer my verse which I hope would be acceptable: We travelled down life's highways--thru the trials and tribulations--then harsh, selfish feelings caused our pathways to part---but now we're reunited--and I'll never leave your side again--you're my best friend--you're right here in my heart. Please forward it to him, if possible.

Comments:You won't believe this but I found your name through researching more about John Phillip's daughter, Mackenzie Phillips and many clicks along the way until I recognized....on Wikipedia, the name Scott McKenzie which rang a distant bell....that's the same singer who sang something to do with When You're Going to San Francisco, Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair.... I love the melody and the worse. The 60s I grew up in as a teenager were very different from the 60s the Mamas and Papas went through. WOW, Scott, I can't believe you're the man behind that beautiful voice!

Comments:Unmistakable sound; since the early 70's I have been unable to get S.F. out of my head. I have an 8 year old daughter who came in this morning with flowers in her hair. Said she didn't want to be like our Golden Retriever who frequently comes in flowered up. So, I pulled your song up on iTunes, downloaded it, and played it for her - now she's a fan - flowers and all. By the way, I think it's time for We've Been Asking Questions - by John Phillips. I understand what John P. was trying to convey. Keep the word going - music seems to be all we have left to share. Respectfully, a fan.

Comments:Scott; I was just out of high school and going to the U of M, and got a job with Dorothy. She took a liking to me and I really went zooming up in the office. I knew you but knew more about you, and all of your mom"s history. I went back to school, went to Germany with my parents, and met my husband, a Lt; married there and returned to the states. I had to take my husband to meet Dottie, and of course, the bosses. They were all great, and even the "boss" was interested, or so they seemed. I am writing because today I was in a store, and they were playing the San Franciso song. I wanted you to know that it has always been, and still is, my favorite. For a reason. Bruce, my husband, was on orders for Vietnam and we obtained permission to drive home from Panama over the interamerican highway, even though it wasn't quite finished. Our children spoke Spanish after years in Panama, and we took a month, wondering if this would be the last time we would travel as a family. I tell you the truth. As we passed through the border into the US, you were singing the Flower song. Bruce looked over and we both had tears in our eyes. I know you probably won't ever see this, but I loved your Mom and wanted to share. Barbara

It took me back to the mid 70's, hot summers, i used to sit on my doorstep with door wide open and San Francisco blaring, and on repeat! Not a single person complained about the volume, it was high, just as that lovely song should be. You have a special voice and that was one cracker of a song. Thank you for the gift.

Comments:Hello, I am a researcher from Montreal, Canada and I wonder if it would be possible to obtain a photo of Scott McKenzie. I work with an artist and musician called Gregory Charles and he is preparing a tribute stage show (to be performed here in Montreal) to honor the great musicians and artists from the forties through to today. Of course, Scott McKenzie’s music is part of his tribute! I wonder if it would be possible to use a promo picture of him as background (projected on a screen) for a couple of seconds during the show to be shown when Gregory Charles speaks of him and his music. The credits will of course be mentioned! Would you have a picture to spare that you could forward by email? The resolution does not need to be great (72 dpi will do) but of course, the bigger the better. Thank you for your cooperation. All the best, Julie

Michelle Phillips, was she as hot as she looks in those videos? WOW!......Scott Scott, you devil, I can see the girls breaking in to get at ya man, song or no song!....I think they would have still tracked you down without SF, had you just been on any media that would have showed your kisser for 10 seconds or so, and you'da been done for....."some guys have all the luck".......I had a smoking friend named Ted Day back in the day, splittin' image of you in those '67 pix & videos, he had the girls climbing all over him, and all he had was a Chevy Vega, OK so he customized it with a fast 327 V-8, and a pretty paint job...STILL, it was no SF. FOR YOUR INFORMATION (my kids say that's FYI dad), (while my HS Sweetheart Wife says "that Scott, oh he's cute even at 67).....anyway,......I just sent a youtube link of SF (Beat Club) performance, to my 21 & 33 year old sons in Oregon, I told them to watch closely the "Who" high-note at 1:53....I really thought it was a great note, and very smooth.......U see, this is the kind of silly things we fans/musicians out here look for and relish in a one of a kind classic hit like SF, a song you just simply NAILED to the wall, and one I'm sure you're very very proud of, "wish I had a classic like San Francisco that people will still be enjoying in; oh say 200 years or so, wow!....."summertime" a love-in there huh?......think I'll go!...PEACE.

The city of San Francisco is one of my favorites in the world and when I was there I could feel the vibrations from the 60's and early 70's and your wonderful song was in my ears and in my mind all the time! One hit wonder or not, you will be remembered forever for it! I would like to thank you and John Phillips for having giving the world such a beautiful song.

Comments:Dear Scott, I loved San Francisco from the first time I heard it and have never grown tired of it. But it is because of the music, not the words. For me they are just syllables to sing the wonderful melody with its beautiful chords. I was only eleven in 1967, but had I been older and knew then what I know now, I don't think I would have protested the Vietnam War. When I purchased Joel Whitburn's Billboard book, I read you were born Philip Blondheim, and wondered if you might be Jewish. You know how that goes--everyone likes to think you're one of them. Anyway, you seem to be a truly kind and warm person and I'm glad to hear that you're doing well. Best regards, Howard Kaplan

Ever since then, this song has always made my thoughts go back to my beautiful childhood summers, the endless green acres, the playing in the forest, the innocense, the kindness of my parents -- all the beautiful there is ... This song, Scott, is MORE than just a song. It is THE vibration that gives so many of us good, calm and relaxational moments in a truly busy everyday life. My school friend, Wendy and I, dreamed of going to San Francisco when we left school. At 16 we both left school, me for college and Wendy, for a life on the wild-side. I mean "For those who come..." Of course, "San Francisco" is the best song ever, but especially this magic chord-variation is the best, the most moving 15 second part of music, which I ever heard in my whole life... my greatest respect, and my deepest thanks for this.

When we moved to Palm Springs, that was one thing we were sure we would miss, was our rare visits while walking our beloved "Chandler". So happy we have stayed in touch over the years, and have enjoyed seeing your clever and humorous takes on life on Facebbok! <3 ya! James & Nat

Comments:We heard this song yesterday on our 702 radio station which plays golden oldies on Saturdays and Sundays. Your song San Francisco is one of my 2 all time favourites - ever! Thank you thank you thank you! I was finishing school that year 1967 and 17 going on 18. I am turning 60 later this year. This means that this song of yours has been my favourite for over 40 years. Does that not say something? I wish I had a cd with the song on it. Where on earth can I order it from. Can only listen on YouTube.

Comments:I was listening to the cable oldies station and I heard San Francisco. I remember in 1967 walking through the airport in San Francisco and hearing the tune on the music system. I had just returned from my 2nd tour in Viet Nam and I started to cry as the song was just so beautiful. Everytime I hear the song, my heart opens up. No other song has ever done this to me. Patrick

Wonder if he remembers.... hmmm. We've both changed. Miss Aunt Dot, too. Thanks for doing this web page - Phil would NEVER do it himself. He's a very tender guy, which, as you say, is why he just doesn't understand why anyone would search him out. Little does he know. Grins. Gale

Comments:I am listening Scott's album right now. I went through 2 copies in vinyl and hunted down the c d a few years back. I have loved this album since I brought it home from the record store as a teen in 1967. Scott has the purest, sweetest voice, and listening to the album brings me so much joy, even after 42 years. My daughter was brought up on the music of the 60's and has a love and respect for the multitudes of talent that came from that era. May God bless you Scott, you are wonderful. I will always cherish this album and your voice.

Comments:...I still get a tear in my eyes once in a while when I hear your song "San Francisco"...it is the theme, in my mind, from a wonderful time of my life. I was 17 in 1967, and the next three years were some of the best in my life. I had a neighbor who was a "Mamas and the Papas" fanatic, and I was slowly being weaned from the British Rock (sort of). Anyway, God bless you Scott. Sing your songs from your mouth, and sing your life from your heart...and put a flower in your hair. JB

Comments:I remember buying "IF you're going...." on a 45rpm record, and when I finally got to visit San Francisco in 1974, that was the song that kept repeating in my head. I still sing it regularly (though never as well as you did). Barry McGuire mentions Scott on his "Trippin' the 60's" cd, of course bringing back all the memories, the great artists, and the marvelous music of the '60's and '70's -- music that you could sing along to, music with subltlety and heart and talent (skill). The best to you Scott! Have you seen Barry recently? (My family and I spent time with Barry and Mari on a cruise last summer, and it was marvelous and memorable as well!) Cheers! Penny
