I work with an artist and musician called Gregory Charles and he is preparing a tribute stage show (to be performed here in Montreal) to honor the great musicians and artists from the forties through to today. Of course, Scott McKenzie’s music is part of his tribute! I wonder if it would be possible to use a promo picture of him as background (projected on a screen) for a couple of seconds during the show to be shown when Gregory Charles speaks of him and his music. WOW!......Scott Scott, you devil, I can see the girls breaking in to get at ya man, song or no song!....I think they would have still tracked you down without SF, had you just been on any media that would have showed your kisser for 10 seconds or so, and you'da been done for....."some guys have all the luck".......I had a smoking friend named Ted Day back in the day, splittin' image of you in those '67 pix & videos, he had the girls climbing all over him, and all he had was a Chevy Vega, OK so he customized it with a fast 327 V-8, and a pretty paint job...STILL, it was no SF. FOR YOUR INFORMATION (my kids say that's FYI dad), (while my HS Sweetheart Wife says "that Scott, oh he's cute even at 67).....anyway,......I just sent a youtube link of SF (Beat Club) performance, to my 21 & 33 year old sons in Oregon, I told them to watch closely the "Who" high-note at 1:53....I really thought it was a great note, and very smooth.......U see, this is the kind of silly things we fans/musicians out here look for and relish in a one of a kind classic hit like SF, a song you just simply NAILED to the wall, and one I'm sure you're very very proud of, "wish I had a classic like San Francisco that people will still be enjoying in; oh say 200 years or so, wow!....."summertime" a love-in there huh?......think I'll go!...PEACE. |

| Comments: | I was listening to the cable oldies station and I heard San Francisco. I remember in 1967 walking through the airport in San Francisco and hearing the tune on the music system. I had just returned from my 2nd tour in Viet Nam and I started to cry as the song was just so beautiful. Everytime I hear the song, my heart opens up. No other song has ever done this to me. I was 17 in 1967, and the next three years were some of the best in my life. I had a neighbor who was a "Mamas and the Papas" fanatic, and I was slowly being weaned from the British Rock (sort of). | Comments: | I remember buying "IF you're going...." on a 45rpm record, and when I finally got to visit San Francisco in 1974, that was the song that kept repeating in my head. I still sing it regularly (though never as well as you did). Barry McGuire mentions Scott on his "Trippin' the 60's" cd, of course bringing back all the memories, the great artists, and the marvelous music of the '60's and '70's -- music that you could sing along to, music with subltlety and heart and talent (skill).
