| Comments: | I was stationed on Hialea Compound i955. Assigned to Hdqtrs 8 th Army Forward, Special Services. I relived Bob Werges from Chicago. Our Korean house boys were Kim e Suk and Cha Chang Yul. I spent many a guard duty night in one of the wooden towers that had the search lights shot out. ASs I remember stationed on the post was 8192 nd Pipeline Co, 4142 nd Engineers. I was assinged to G2 and ran the hobby shop on my free hours. I remember a Lt Suttle. I also did a number of courier runs on the overnight train to Seoul from Pusan Jin to Seoul. Now at 76, those were crazy times ! I sailed from Seattle to Inchon on the same troop ship in the same compartment just under the stern knuckle. The ship was the Gen Wm mitchell-TAP 114 Some memories have not been forgotten.....especially the Charlies alerts and the constant gorilla warfare. Basic training in Fort Bragg, NC--- Cook's School Fort Jackson, SC Then I was assigned to HHC Pusan Base Command, Hialeah Compound November, 1966 to April, 1968 as a cook. Then discharged from Fort Lewis, WA. I remember the 142d MP Co. barracks (or was it quonset huts) next to the consolidated Mess Hall, where I worked, and the ballfield. Pusan City seemed so primitive then, almost medieval. Many dirt roads and bicycle repair shops were the ultimate in high tech. I remember traveling to Haeundae Beach for the opening of the beach club for the 1967 season. I forget if I was working or a tourist that day. Then going back during the summer to enjoy the beach. When I was there it was the 91st Mp Bn 193 mp co. The 728th was then a combat M P co. I trained at Good old Camp Gordon in 1953. Glad I didn't draw 504 either. Even tho the combat ended, it really didn't end w/us until quite a bit later. Rather fortunate I didn't go the 8th Army Stockade in Pusan. As ever w/pleasant memories of the PMO, and the Provost Sergeant "saying u better make a sworn statement". And me saying "I stand under Article 34 UCMJ 1951. Ah all those pleasant memories. | Comments: | Joe; Guess we should know each other. I was with the 2nd Traffic Platoon 545th MP Co., at Camp Otsu from May 56 until sometime Aug.,-Sep 57. While there I was TDY as MPIS at Camp Nara for about 6-7 months. Worked for a CWO4 by the name of Whalen. Aurthur A. Sweeburg, another CWO4 was the CO of the 83rd MPCI Det., (CID now). I Can't remember our CO's name some 1st Lt. I recall we still had one, if not the last Harley-Davidson 125/45? motorcycle in the Army. Shift Supervisor had a 51 Chevy sedan. I also recall we absorbed a contingent of MP,s from (I think) the 508th PIR at Camp Beppu. One was a SFC Fairchild. As I also recall his daughter (real little at the time) was cut real bad on her face after she fell into some glasses in their qtrs. I think they were living up at the hydoponic farm housing complex. I was in the same squad bay with "Shorty", our Japanese midget houseboy. Those were great times. Town Patrol in Kyoto; Baby Delivery runs to Osaka Army Hospital; eating hot bowls of soba at the Otsu train Station at 2300; having a bit part in Sayonara with Brando & Garner & Red Buttons. Pulling the lanyard on the 105 at Post Hqs for Revelle(sp?), and working our asses off every payday night (once a month) going from one 10-55 to another with the troops from the 7th Cav. Operation "Dumb-Dumb" effective July 1, 56; great cocktails on the veranda of the Biwako Hotel, and so on, and so on, and so on. Whenthey moved the 7th out of Camp Otsu, I went to Camp Miho up in Totorri Prefecture. When they closed thatCamp (an ASA intercept site that couldn't intercept anything), I was sent to Camp Zama where I stayed until May 58 and then rotated b ack to by then FORT Gordon and the Garrison MP Detachment. Discharged in May 59. My web site got the rest of it. You're the first of the 56-57 bunch that I've crossed paths with. It was a great place, a super tour of duty, with really good people. Who knows, maybe will have a Kirin sometime someday. I understand that Asahi, Nippon and Akadama have all gone by the wayside, but we're still here! |

| Comments: | Hi Joe; Enjoyed the trip down memory lane. Graduated MP Schoolat CAMP Gordon, Ga in Aug 55 and off to the 7th MP Co at Tong-du-chon. From there to the 545th in Tokyo and Camp Otsu, Japan, with some later assignments at Camp Miho, Japan (ASA intercept site); Camp Nara and finally Camp Zama. Ended my MP time back at now Fort Gordon , but was lucky enough to get assigned to the Post MP Dtechment as a real cop instead of the School, or God forbid, the 504th Combat MP Bn. God luck with whatever life now brings. |

| Comments: | Hiya Joe... I threw "709 MP Bn" into the "Google" search engine and ended up here. Funny how the first name on the list also spent time in Frankfurt, Germany although I never met him. I was there '51-'53. After I left the Army I spent a year with the Metropoitan Police in D.C.(1954) and then came home to NYC where I did 22 yrs. with the NYC Police Dept. (1955-1977) Now living in Canandaigua and of all the people who might read this I'll bet you are one of the few who will know where that is. |
