Facebook I am interested in learning information about my family. I use to spend summers with my grandparents, Mary Ethel and John L. Elliott. The last time I was there was for my Uncle John Higgins (wife Miriam, kids-Jim, Frank, Carol Jean, Betty Kay and Marsha)funeral back in 1982. Would like to get in touch with them but I am not sure how.
I miss my summers there, the picnic, and all the gentle souls

My great grandfather was John (Uncle Jack) Willett, younger brother of Samuel Willett. They were the first settlers in the area now known as Fancy Farm.

My grandfather, John Fehan Willett, was the son of Uncle Jack. He was named after the priest at St Jerome, Father Fehan. My mother, Mary Pauline Willett Cash, was the daughter of John Fehan Willett.

One of Uncle Jack's daughters, Irene Willett, married a man named Cash. Their daughter Theresa Cash married a man named Skinner. They are the great grandparents of Kevin Skinner who put Mayfield and Fancy Farm on the world map by winning America's Got Talent.

Family Several family members from Arkansas made our yearly pilgrimage to "Picnic" and to visit with our precious 92 year old Aunt Marianna McClaren, Mayfield, KY.

Would there ever be a way of gathering the decendants of Samual Willett and Elizabeth Hobbs Willett at this event? My Father was Joseph Constantine Willett, the son of Thomas Romuald (T.R.) Willett and Imelda Willett. They were distant cousins and told there children they were moving to Arkansas because there were "nothing but relatives to marry in KY."

We all share such a unique history of "Faith" and my father felt it most important that we cherish this priveledge and make a pilgrimage to this site at least once in our life.

The AR cousins began a tradition several years back to gather for "Picnic". We would love to meet more of our KY "relatives". We visited w/several priests, to include your retiring Bishop, who told us Father Leo was in attendance this year but we never could locate him to say Hi. We also met a nice young man named Chad Willett.

If you know of other family members who gather we would enjoy the opportunity to meet them and felt this avenue was the best way to put the word out.

Thanks and God Bless you ALL for a wonderful labor of love in keeping the tradition of Fancy Farm alive and prospering. Bonnie Willett-Goad.

Known about Fancy Farm all my life! Thank you for the opportunity to sign the on line book and for a chance to make comment or two. I look forward to the day when the powers that be concerning Fancy Farm Picnic will give space under the awaning and room on the speakers stage for third political parties. I can understand your fear and trepedation, to a degree, but I will say and want to say we mean you no harm, we come in peace! We only want, wish and desire to be heard not to poke, prod, nudge or push over the political edge your leanings in politics we only want the voting block of America and frankly the Commonwealth of KY to have a choice, more than two, to choose from when they go into the voting booth and exercise there well earned long before they ever got here and long after there gone vote!

And I only want, wish and desire to have the voter be all that more better informed about the two party system in this country. Since the political age began we have had, been allowed, only two political parties of a varying kind, name, to choose from, only two. It is my opinion that that has to come to an end and right soon. I know that I know when you signed up, registered to vote you filled out the card and marked either Republican or Democrat because at the time it was good enough for your Mama's and Daddy's it was good enough for you, I understand and know that all to well because I did the very same thing when I turned eighteen years old, am now 32, signed up for selective service and registered to vote!

But in today's time, in today's political age two political parties to choose from is not good enough, its not. Again and to close I look forward to the day when the powers that be will give space and time to third political parties at Fancy Farm Picnic U and S of A. Thank you for your time and attention and I look forward to this years festivites as I do every year about this time. Until next time God speed and happy trails to you and yours and remember always to keep smiling until then....

Doing family research on-line My Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather is Samuel Willett and Elizabeth Hobbs is my GGGG Grandmother. My Great Grandfather was John Alexander Willett, son of Elisha Joseph and Theresa Ann Pierceall. My Grandfather was not listed as a child of Elisha's, but they had more than one child and only one is listed.
My grandfather was Norbert Quinton and my dad's name is John Edward Willett. My Great Grandfather John Alexander (we called him Granpa POP) died in Beloit, KS just past 100 years of age. MY Grandfather died a few years ago in Topeka, KS, he had 6 children, my dad is the oldest. My dad has cancer and only has a few months to live and I am trying to find as much family info as possible before it is too late to share this info with my dad. My dad has multiple myeloma.
We live in KS, but are in the process of moving to the Franklin, TN AREA, my husband is working there NOW. we cannot wait to be BACK in the area, as I have been drawn to the KY and TN area since I was a little girl. I loved hearing stories of the old Kentucky HOME from my Grandpa POP. I am anxious to hear if any of the old houses are still there from my GG Grandparents etc. I cannot wait to see the church there in person and we go thru Paducah on our way to Franklin all the time and I did not know I was SO close to my G Grandfather's boyhood home. We may be down again this week, since our children are on spring break. We have 8 and they attend Catholic school here in our area. I hope to find many relatives before my dad makes his journey to be with Jesus in heaven.

family (see comments) My great-great grandparents, Aramantie (Minnie)Albert and James Carrol Gibson moved from Paducah to Fancy Farm in the 1880's so their children could attend St. Jeromes. I was creating a 'family tree' book for my mother, who is the Gibson's great-granddaughter,(and daughter of Ambrose Hayden, Mary Blanch Gibson's son), and I got this information from another book that was written by Ambrose's sister. I have been to the Fancy Farm picnic when I was very young in the 1960's. Also, on my grandmother's side of the family, (Richards), my great-aunt married Tommy Thomas who also had family there. Uncle Tommy & Aunt Weedy (Annie Oria) lived in Chicago but is buried in Fancy Farm & his son Terry was married there.
I have lived in Pensacola,Fl. since 1981 but go home to Paducah every year. I've enjoyed your website, thanks for the memories!

I love the old-fashioned way of life and being around the older people, since I was raised by grand-parents and was taught the paths of life in a good christian-way, which I still walk today.I hope to be able to make it this week-end, I don't know yet, but if I can not, I will be sure and keep an update from here on my pc. New article I am INCREDIBLY disappointed that you are not letting the Libertarian Candidates speak. This is a country built on the freedom of ideas. Are you saying that because they are a third party what they say does not matter? This year there are a lot of people who are NOT happy with McCain or Obama. Maybe they would like to hear from someone else. I wont attend again, and I will make sure I pass the word. I thought this was a political picnic. Now I see it is a a political so long as your politics are our politics picnic. INCREDIBLY upset and disappointed!!!

My cousins Martin,Paul,Jon,and Will Hayden and Kurt, Michael and David Toon, and I sure had some great times! All my ancestors were from FF My paternal grandmother was Anna Bell Thompson. Brown Thompson, Raymond Thompson were kin to her as well as others. She married Elisha Clark and my father was Newman Clark. My mother was Lexie Elliott. She was one of twelve. Kathleen Goatley was her sister as well as Julia Rhodes. I probably have many cousins still in the FF area, but haven't been back since 1986 when the Elliotts had a reunion. My husband and I are planning to come to the picnic in 2008. I noticed in the 2007 pictures there were many RVs - what do you have to do to bring a travel trailer to the picnic. Reservations? Please let me know.
Also, would you know if Randall and Velita are still living? I haven't heard from them in several years but would love to. Thanks so much!

looked up website I live in Collinsville, Illinois. I also am related to Roseann Toon.

Interesting, but I was just at Fancy Farm several weeks ago. I visited St. Jerome's cemetary looking for relatives gravesites. I also saw Toon Drive. In fact I was there about 5:00pm because mass was going on in the church..this was the day the credit union was robbed I actually had seen the report later in the evening on the news.

My mother is Kathleen Ann Fleming. She is retiring in the area and bought a home just down the road. She remembers visiting Fancy Farm in the early 1940's. Her mother is Mary Juanita Nord Ungard who was a Toon. Her father was Rubie Toon. We were trying to find out info on Annie (which we think was a Willett) and Occie or O.C. Hobbs her husband. I could not find a gravesite but they thought they were buried there.

Any one have info on this??

I will pass this website on to my mom Kathleen.

family history On a lark, I looked up Fancy Farm, Ky on Google and to my suprise there it was. My family on my mother's side is from Fancy Farm. I have many fond memories as a child going to my Aunt Beula Ivy's home and visiting the farm with Uncle Jim. My grandmother was Mary Lois Shanks and she married Joseph Casimer Hayden. They moved away from Fancy Farm when grandpa had to go where he could to get a job. After my grandfather's death in 1964 my grandmother moved back to Fancy Farm and lived next to Aunt Beula. Sis Ivy is Beula's daugher and my mother's cousin but I do not know if she is still alive. We visited her several years ago but have not kept in touch.

Thank you for the trip down memory lane.

Sincerely,

Jane Seifert

TV I ATTENDED THE FANCY FARM PICNIC SOMEWHERE AROUND 1993 OR 4.AND WAS I DISSAPPOINTED.I WENT TO HEAR THE SPEAKERS, NOT THE PEOPLE WHO CAME BY BUSLOADS TO SCREAM AND YELL INSULTS AND INTERRRUPT THE SPEAKERS. SAYING I DON'T KNOW WHAT BECAUSE I COULDNT' UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY WERE SAY EITHER. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLACED SOMEWHERE IN THE BACKGROUND AND NOT ALLOWED TO DROWN OUT THE SPEAKRS. I WAS NOT SUPRISED THAT THEY WERE THERE. BUT AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO ACTUALLY WENT THERE TO HEAR THE SPEAKERS?
THE PEOPLE FROM THAT AERA KNEW TO TAKE CHAIRS WITH THEM. OTHERWISE, YOU HAD NO PLACE TO SIT.
I HAVE NO PLANS TO RETURN AND THAT IS A DISAPPOINTMENT TO ME.

Born & Raised in FF Beautiful Web Site!! Almost as good as a visit! My Dad, Allard Cash died in 1993--he never missed a FF picnic. My Mother, Lucille Hayden Cash is 90 years old and has most of her 9 children at the picnic every year. I graduated St Jerome High School in 1960 , married the love of my life, Jim Nelson of Mayfield in 1962 in St Jerome Church. We live in Mobile, AL, have 4 sons and one daughter-- all married-- with 11 grandchildren. I have loved every picnic I've attended. Hope to attend many more. My Dad's sisters used to tell me about sitting on the ice cream freezers(hand churned)at the picnic, when they were children. I love my FF History Book and the picnic cookbooks. THANKS

graduated at FFHS in '80 Wonderful time of my life! Have since lost four classmates. R.I.P.-Mark Toon, Keith Stahr, Walter Rowe, & Keith Stamper. Looking forward to Picnic. Memories include high school, KC Hall, Gopher Hole, ballpark, tobacco fields, secluded gravel roads, etc. Best of all this is where I met my wife-Julie Elliot.
