Gene Watson has been my favorite county vocalist since the early 80's. Once I was on a date and the guy was telling me his favorite singer and he said "Gene Watson", I said "me too!" I was able to get "In A Perfect World" CD at the concert, and my sister and I played it all the way back to Asheville, North Carolina that night. He's always been my favorite and I will always love him. Clinton Gregory is really good, but no Gene Watson!!!! Wish he would spend more time on the east coast. We would be at every show.

When I was young, my Mom listened to Gene Watson's music and although I liked it, I didn't understand my Mom's facination (with any country ballads in general). Then as I got older and experienced life, I came to undertand and appreciate his talent. He is my all time favorite and I not only have all of his recordings, but listen to them constantly. I have so much admiration for this man and his voice that I can't put it into words. I recently came across his music and videos on youtube and myspace and have saved everyone of them and watch some of them every single day.
He is going to be at The Stagecoach in Ft. Worth on Dec. 6th and I am going to be there with a group of friends and fans to celebrate my "54th" year young birthday. I can hardly wait to see him. I wish he would have received the recognition he so richly deserves. There are and have been some good musical talents over the years, but none can hold a candle to the great Gene Watson. I would like to make a statement about Mr. Watson’s image and fame among professional country musicians. To illustrate that I believe myself to have the requisite qualifications to speak on that subject, I present the following information.
I have been a professional musician (steel guitarist) for over 60 years. I have performed on hundreds of recordings, on network television, in movies, and was a “regular” on the Grand Ole Opry in the 1940s and 1950s. I have had the distinct privilege and high honor of having been inducted into the International Steel Guitar Hall of Fame (St. Louis, MO), The Pioneers of Western Swing Hall Of Fame (Seattle, WA) and the Western Swing Music Hall of Fame (Sacramento, CA). The details of my career may be seen in the website http://www.RoysFootprints.com. I am quite often in touch with scores of professional country musicians. I believe I am correct in saying that, to those professionals, the three greatest country singers who have ever lived have been Ray Price, Marty Robbins, and Gene Watson. I list these alphabetically by last name, as it would be very difficult for me to grade them against one another in any reasonable way. Gene Watson is truly a musician’s singer. May God travel with him and watch over him, and allow us to be touched by his great voice for many years to come. | |

Really cannot choose a favorite album or song--we love so many of them, Next To Nothing, Make Sure You Got It All, 14 Carat Mind, Nothing Sure Looked Good On You, are just a few. Basically, we love traditional country and there are only a few artists we consider great. Not only must the songs they sing be outstanding but they must possess the voice to carry it off. Gene Watson is such a man. We have yet to see him in concert (we live in the Northeast and my fiance has a hectic work schedule) but we may be able to see him this summer in either N.C. or Pa. I have been a Gene Watson fan since High School in the early 80’s.
Think I am one of many of his biggest fan’s. Have made a CD with all my favorite Gene song’s and play it over and over in the car, needless to say wife and daughter hate riding with me. Lol. Have never understood why you were not as well know as some of the other’s during the 80’s. but glad you are still performing. Was board at work and decided to do a internet search on you, and was surprised to see not only a fan club but so many guest book post. (say this only because when ever I’m asked about my favorite song or singer I get blank stares when ever I mention your name). Also noticed that you plan to attend a concert in Aug in Ireland. I've been a fan over 30 years and have every song Gene ever recorded, including those on obscure small labels from years ago. I've been fortunate to have seen him on both his UK tours, although some time ago and suppose that now we're living in Turkey, I'll have to make do with listening to albums.
