Really cannot choose a favorite album or song--we love so many of them, Next To Nothing, Make Sure You Got It All, 14 Carat Mind, Nothing Sure Looked Good On You, are just a few. Basically, we love traditional country and there are only a few artists we consider great. Not only must the songs they sing be outstanding but they must possess the voice to carry it off. Gene Watson is such a man. We have yet to see him in concert (we live in the Northeast and my fiance has a hectic work schedule) but we may be able to see him this summer in either N.C. or Pa. Think I am one of many of his biggest fan’s. Have made a CD with all my favorite Gene song’s and play it over and over in the car, needless to say wife and daughter hate riding with me. Lol. Have never understood why you were not as well know as some of the other’s during the 80’s. but glad you are still performing. Was board at work and decided to do a internet search on you, and was surprised to see not only a fan club but so many guest book post. Shortly after my divorce Farewell party came out. The song said everything I was feeling and I was hooked on Gene's music. He came to Texarkana, Texas to do a show so I went out to his bus knocked on the door and was invited in for a true conversation with him. Never forgot it, never will. I would love to just say hello to him in person again someday. Todays country music singers could learn a lot by listening to his songs. In Gene's days the songs had to sell themselves, today 90% of country music wouldn't last a week without the smutty videos.Gene is a true country legend that I thank for his music and his time he gave me in 1979. I have always loved Gene Watson's music. He is and always has been my favorite male singer. I can't thank Mr. Watson enough for recording his latest album "In A Perfect World." If you love pure traditional country music you will love this album. I love it so much I am going to have to buy another copy so I will have one for the house and one for the car. His voice is as good today as it ever was. I love every song on the new album. I go to sleep listening to it each night and then take it to the car and put it on driving to work -I can't get enough of it. It's the best country music that has been put out in a long long time. I admit you do have some great songs, but I can't bring myself to listen to them anymore knowing that one of your people stole Dreams of a Dreamer from my father!! In the 80's my dad had his own band and drove a truck over the road too. While on the road, somehow your people got a hold of the song and recorded it. No recognition was given to my dad at all. I have been a fan of Gene Watson for many years. He is my absolute favorite all time singer and entertainer. Every time he comes to Minnesota I see all of his shows. He was at our Minnesota State Fair this year and performed free concerts. Was fantasitc. His new album "In A Perfect World" is wonderful. The second song, "Let Me Be The First To Go" really hit home. My husband passed away little over a year ago from colon cancer. I miss him so much. The song brought lots of tears but I can see my husband saying this. Gene, you have so many great songs. I have returned from Northern Ireland after seeing Gene and the Farewell Party perform in Armagh. Clinton Gregory was brilliant and could open the show without the need of another supporting act. Gene's performance was without fault and he and the band provided a fantastic evenings entertainment. He is the best voice and his latest album is prefect. I still wish he would release a Christmas album and also release a more up-to-date DVD of his concerts. I hope he will come over to England next time. | |
