A local record shop would call me and ask about the records. They were getting calls for them. I would tell them, "You had better stock Gene Watson records, he's a star and here to stay. As a country DJ and still today Gene is one of my favorites. | |

Well, he didn't believe me, think'n I was a city girl try'n to impress him. He was impressed when I reached for my cassette tapes and pulled out Gene and popped him in th player. I've never had the pleasure of hearing him in person. I've visited his schedule on line and have often thought of taking a vacation to a location where he will be performing. My sister and I walked to the back of the civic center and he, his wife and mother got into a small blue van. In 1979, we went to Stephens County High School in Toccoa, Ga. and sat on the front row, and sat through 2 shows. Have seen him numerous times, Harrah's in Cherokee, North Carolina, Maggie Valley, North Carolina, Hiwassi, Georgia and our lastest trip was to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee this last week-end to see him on Sept. 26, 2008 at the Country Tonight Theatre. He is as great as the first time we saw him and have loved him and his songs from the first one he made to the last. I was able to get "In A Perfect World" CD at the concert, and my sister and I played it all the way back to Asheville, North Carolina that night. He's always been my favorite and I will always love him. Clinton Gregory is really good, but no Gene Watson!!!! Wish he would spend more time on the east coast. We would be at every show.

I first saw Gene in 1983 in Conway Arkansas and I have been in love with his music ever since. What a wonderful voice. I've tried to collect every album and I'm sure I've missed a few. I actually got his autograph at that time. That's a time in my life that I will never forget.

When I was young, my Mom listened to Gene Watson's music and although I liked it, I didn't understand my Mom's facination (with any country ballads in general). Then as I got older and experienced life, I came to undertand and appreciate his talent. He is my all time favorite and I not only have all of his recordings, but listen to them constantly. I have so much admiration for this man and his voice that I can't put it into words. I recently came across his music and videos on youtube and myspace and have saved everyone of them and watch some of them every single day.
He is going to be at The Stagecoach in Ft. Worth on Dec. 6th and I am going to be there with a group of friends and fans to celebrate my "54th" year young birthday. I can hardly wait to see him. I wish he would have received the recognition he so richly deserves. There are and have been some good musical talents over the years, but none can hold a candle to the great Gene Watson. He deserves to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame pronto! | |
