Dearest Shazzie,

I just heard your "debunking scientists" interview and I just wanted to tell you that I'm so, so amazed by you (even more than I previously was, which is saying a lot!) It makes me so happy that someone is strong enough to speak out about a way of life that isn't considered "mainstream" yet, and I only wish I'd heard it live and phoned in with some more support! Thank you for your strength and your beautiful soul.

Oh! As Christmas presents this year I gave my siblings copies of your books- and they all fell in love with them! (especially with "Evie's Kitchen"- which of course also has pride of place in my home!) So thank you for your words and inspiration.

Lots of love and hugs from Scotland,
Julia

Hi Shazzie!
I've been coming to your site for 6 years now! I also own a few of your books. It was so wonderful to read about your pregnancy with Evie, and just wanted to let you know I am now 36 weeks pregnant and have been eating a high raw diet, which I first learned of through you and Jinjee (thegardentdiet.com)-- I feel great! You have been an inspiration, so thank you for all you have done!

Hi
I just want to send some love, I lost my son, my boy, a couple of months ago and I can really relate to some of the things you beautifully articulated in your blog. It's hard. You're doing well. I know you are aware of Ravi and Anna's yoga dvds and I just have to say, I don't think I could be getting through without doing all or part of the 'Journey Through the Chakras' everyday. Be warned of some pretty intense emotion during the heart and throat chakras 'cause that's part of the loss: not being able to say (to their physical body) what you longed to say. Anyhow, just felt compelled to write and tell you that. Take care.

Dearest Shazzie, I was so very sorry to hear of your loss. I can totally relate to what you're going through - My dad died last year. Like you say, the pain does dull in time although it never leaves entirely. Maybe that's a good thing.

Over the years I have found much comfort in your words. I hope that at this difficult time, you may find some in mine.

Greetings Shazzie,

Thank you for all that you do. Raw vegan food has healed so many things. I am in the middle of my healing experiment- I was hit by a car in 2001 and sustained a traumatic brain injury (closed head wound). I found Organic Raw Vegan food 2 years ago and am having incredible healing. I would like to know of anyone else out there who is experiencing healing after brain / head injury. I was told I am so injured that I will never return to work again. However, after 5 months of totally raw diet, my brain started coming online again. The creativity started like someone turned on the light switch and I started dalene's (education, classes, wholesale, sit down/ take out dining) to help others learn about this incredible food. Anyone else out there using this to help brain/ head injury???

Shazzie,

I am not raw. I am not a vegan. I am not even a vegetarian. Yet I find myself coming back to your site every spring, drawing inspiration and refocusing my nutritional awareness. Included in my healthy living library are several of your and David Wolfe's publications, and I find myself referring to them more often than many of my other resources.

After a winter full of heavy, starch/sugar/salt-laden processed foods, I'm feeling it is time to lighten up. After watching your superfoods videos on youtube, I ran to the kitchen and made myself a pudding out of banana, avocado, raw chocolate, raw coconut oil, maca, Celtic gray sea salt, agave nectar, macadamia nuts, rice milk, and vanilla. In the time it took me to watch your interview on Channel 5, I had gobbled it all up (and you know that ain't long!), and even though it wasn't totally raw, the energy in those foods has got my head buzzing (in an ecstatic, enlightened sort of way - not an anxious, artificial stimulant sort of way). Now I feel ready to do the workout I've been putting off all day!

Anyhow, just wanted to say thank you for all you do and let you know that you are making a difference, even to people whose diets are a far cry from your own.

Much love,
*A*

Hey crazy lady,

I found you about 11 days ago. I went from being fully meat and dairy-and-anything-that-looks-remotely-edible-eating, to vegan after just 2 flippin' days of reading! I am currently about 98% raw and doing it at my own pace. This has been so far one of the easiest and most amazing lifestyle choices I have ever made and...I have lost half a stone...BUT THE WEIGHT IS COMING OFF IN DIFFERENT PLACES THAN WITH CONVENTIONAL DIETS, LIKE FROM MY CELLULITE RAVAGED LEGS BECAUSE I'M NOT LOSING JUST FAT I'M LOSING THOSE MONTROUS WESTERN-DIET-INDUCED TOXINS THAT HAVE BEEN BLOCKING MY CIRCULATION FOR SO LONG!!! I can see a difference in my body shape; my skin is becoming smoother and I am now not having to look forward to a Western life of drudgery, trying to avoid cancer and middle-aged spread. It hit me in the face how obvious it is that I haven't technically 'fed' myself for years and how my poor body has struggled heroically to survive with the pitiful rubbish I gave it...desperately searching for nutrients for all this time. I feel a sense of freedom. Life excites me again and your chocolate is nicer than anything I have tasted on the highstreet. I have also freed myself from the endless binge dieting of destruction and kicking myself when I 'failed'. If I have to eat cooked now at all, I don't think anything of it. I just see it as part of the transition and my journey into 100% raw. Thankyou for being so open and thorough about your own personal journey, I am even thinking about my own blog entiteld 'Elaine's wannabe-Shazzie diary' Best wishes. xxx

Shazzie!
You are a huge inspiration to me. I'm 35, have been a vegetarian since the age of 6, and have been dabbling with eating raw for the past 5 years. I rediscovered your site a couple of days ago and have decided to try my hand at 100% raw again, today being day 2 for me!
My mother went raw after being diagnosed with cancer a couple of years ago. She spent a month at a raw retreat center here and came back looking radiant-better than I'd seen her in 20 years. Unfortunately it was difficult for her to keep up with the raw diet after she returned, and she died a few months later. I remember her telling me she wished she'd discovered eating raw when she was in her 20s because she wouldn't have gotten the cancer. I think of that statement often and appreciate that I know about this wonderful way of living.
I watched your interview with the one minute spot to "prove the benefits of superfood." You did an amazing job of fitting quality information in such a small space.
Thanks so much for all that you do! When I've reached day 30 I'll let you know!

Hi Shazzie, I just wanted to say a sincere thankyou to you, for giving me hope. I found your website a couple of weeks ago by sheer fluke, and couldn't resist buying a couple of raw chocolate bars. I decided to buy your book too, to find out what this raw food revolution is all about. I'm halfway through it now and it's so uplifting for me. I've suffered from obesity, dental problems, depression and many other general health problems for over a decade (I'm 21), and I'd almost given up hope of ever finding a solution that would work and keep working for life. After reading your book, watching your Youtube information videos and trying goji berries, maca powder and that delicious chocolate, for the first time in a long time I'm feeling positive and motivated about changing my life for good. I'm looking into incorporating colloidal silver, montmorillonite powder and raw wild foods into my diet, and taking up regular exercise. Thankyou again for being the inspiration behind this and sharing your wisdom with the world.

Shazzie, you looked wonderful on Channel 5 today, odd how you looked so much healthier than the Dietician isn't it?

I found it hilarious/tragic how they were obviously out to trash the 'alternative' to the SUKD, especially when the presenter said 'you only need 3 or 4 blueberries a day and yet a whole pack costs £1.99?!', well yes but what about people who might just like to eat a whole punnet instead of just 3 or 4 and then munch on a cheeseburger as they've had their 'healthy' food for the day?!

No matter what you said they were always going to look for the negative cost or 'holistic approach' implications. You remained calm and serene throughout, well done you.

Shazzie, you really are special for helping to change (and save!) the lives of so many previously depressed/unhappy/overweight/dissolutioned... people. I'm 24 and have battled with my own issues for years, I came across your site by accident. ...by reading your journal and then about the raw food movement in general i became hooked, and now being 100% raw vegan for three months now i feel great and can't wait to feel more positive changes. I feel that it is all down to you and have to say a big THANK YOU for bringing raw food into the UK (and my life), sharing all your own thoughts, innovations, and experiences, and letting people in on some of nature's best kept secrets! I've since read great stuff by David Wolfe, raw chefs...etc. but it was your amazing site and your shop "Detox Your World" that truly put me on the right path in the first place. I had known about the raw food diet for years, although NEVER considered it myself until I stumbled upon your site. Also I've tried so many different brands of cacao and other superfoods and can honestly say that the quality of Rawcreation foods as well as the service, far outshines every other raw food distributor in the UK!! I firmly believe that if you eat food that's grown naturally/prepared/packed with love, then you will feel those positive forces within you, and vice versa. You're an inspiration to us all! I hope I'm returning a little of the positive karma that you send out through all your sites and the work that you do. THANK YOU, and God Bless you and your adorable little 'un! XX

Dear Shazzie,
Like millions of people I love your journal so much It is amazing and inspirational!!!!
I know you are stopping your journal at the end of December 2006!!
I think that is fine about you stopping your journal!!
But what I want to know is and I am sure other people want to know this as well: WILL YOU BE LEAVING UP YOUR OLD JOURNAL YOU DID THESE PAST YEARS?? The journal is so good and inspirational please will it be left up??? It is great to look back I find for support in the raw and spiritual life. Sorry I don't always put stuff in the best English and it maybe hasn't come out the right way. But I think you get the message I like your journal like loads of peple do and I am pleased you are moving on with your life but I just want to know if the old journal will still be there to look back on? Sometimes I think your journal would even make a good book. Shazzie I think you are a beautiful lady!!
I love all your books and your DVDs too.

Hi Shazzie
Good luck with your mole! My Mum had skin cancer and I treated her with Reiki for it. After 5 distant healing sessions it had gone, how great is that?!

Just a friendly bit of advice, you don't haveto take it but please don't dis empower yourself by letting someone who channels ascended masters tell you what direction to steer Evie in. You will know yourself, or, better yet, let her steer her own way.

I get that way too when I travel, a good help is the FES flower essence of violet, I was told it is for the soul's fear of large groups, fear of being submerged by other energies. (You were traveling at the full moon too and that doesn't help any.) 2-3 drops while traveling may help and then 3 drops 2 times a day after traveling.
I've been reading your site for 2 years (and I LOVE it!). Everytime I see a post for a position I think, how great would it be to work with Shazzie?!?!?! Too bad I'm in the US, married and about to have a family of my own. If I lived across the pond, I'd snatch up an opportunity available to those weirdos who keep flaking on you! It WILL fall into place.
Much, much love,
Stephanie

Hi Shazzie,

I love the story about Evie and the coconut juice; it's soooo sweet. Only a child could sniff out a carton of much needed coconut juice at the bottom of a box.

I agree with you, Evie does look radiant and I think it must be partly to do with her well-balanced raw vegan diet.

I wish all children could have a similar start to life; I think the world could be a better place for it.

Hi Shaz and crew,
THANK YOU! What a rush to receive the chocolate bar in my mailbox upon my return from a week's camping trip. I was totally delighted to have been one of the winners in your Summer of Love contest, and after a week of eating dried fruit and nuts, my mate, Jonathan and I were thrilled to have something so delicious as well as healthy to eat the minute we walked in the door. (Thank you, Universe!) You guys are beautiful. (Oh, and thank you also for going to the trouble and expense to mail it all the way over here to the US.)

Shazzie, verbal abuse from your ex, let it fall away.
I've been reading your journal since 1999, bar 7.5 mths in 2004.

I think you are awesome in being able to get your business running and growing in leaps and bounds, be a full time mum, and still be there for your friends.

As well as staying healthy.

Give yourself a massive pat on the back.

Thank-you so much for your wonderful website. I find it so inspiring! Not only are you a terrific testament to the benefits of a raw lifestyle, but also of someone who is following their passions and letting the universe provide! I would love to see you write a book on that subject, as I know it would be great and very inspiring!

I was making myself a OJ, mago and banana smoothie this evening when I suddenly slipped and knocked it all over the kitchen floor....fortunately I had more fruit so once all was cleaned up I embarked on making up the yummy production again.
As I sat down to enjoy the doorbell rang and a friendly postman was standing at my door with your books.
Have been flicking through them for tha last 30mins and knew I had to write to say a big thank you for your beautiful writing.
I've just started on the raw journey and your website (along with Storm and Jinjee's) have been such a great help.
I live in Japan and hope to spread the word of the raw vegan diet.

Shazzie-

I've been reading your journal for years and just love it. I have a son born a month after Evie, so its been fun reading your adventures as they parallel mine.

Anyway, LOVED your comments at the dietitian last week. I have the same conversation repeatedly with people about milk. I still breastfeed and no formula, no milk, ever, and I'm always questioned. "Does he drink milk?" "Yes, mine." Anyway, I laughed so hard - thanks for taking the time to share. BTW - the American Acad of Peds changed its recommendations this year about breastfeeding to minimum one year (from 3 months)and recommended at least two years, and three or more if possible. This is a big step as they are a conventional medical group. The world is changing!

Love,
Mia

Shazzie,

Like the previous guest, I have just read your journal today and also feel compelled to comment on your meeting with the dietician. Oh my word!!!...they should be commending your far superior knowldege in the field of nutrition...not questionning! Evie possibly is one of the healthiest children with the best diet a child could have. I feel enranged. Surely all the rest of the nation's parents should be brought in for interrogation! How deficient is a child who is fed a regular diet of crisps, biscuits and Mc Donalds etc? I too am a parent, of 2 young healthy boys (whose diet is not as healthy as Evie's) who , amongst other things, do not consume cows milk. Your conversation brings back memories of a similiar one that I had with a doctor, who was equally concerned that I was depriving my children of vital nutrients. I think that was the last time I took my children to the doctors...over 2 years ago now! I hope never to go back!

Keep up the good work!

Hey Shazzie - been reading your journals (love, love love!) for a while now, and after reading today about your experience with the dietician, I was compelled to write. I so felt for you and your daughter while reading it - I could feel the heat rising to the top of my head! I don't have children myself (yet), but am around them all the time and very passionate about informed parenthood. Anyway, your experience reminded me of something that happened to me just a few weeks ago. I had to see a doctor because I thought I had pneumonia - and since it was my first visit, they asked me to fill out an exhausting form about medical history. When I came to the questions about diet, and read the question that went something like, "Calcium: Do you consume the required 3 servings of dairy per day?" - I wanted to jump up and scream - HAVEN'T YOU PEOPLE EVER HEARD OF KALE??? :-)) Keep up the wonderful work - love your site, your book, all.

Your sister's comment: "children don't come with handbooks" is a bit like my sister's comment "bringing up children, is like playing Rusian roulette", so you can only do your best, which - clearly - you do!!! Evie is young, and has had such a wonderful, attentive start to life that she will soon recover fully from the trauma of an unexpected infection (caused by circumstances way beyond your control - you can't wrap Evie in cotton wool, and if you tried to she wouldn't evolve as the healthy, well-balanced individual, she is sure to remain/become). Kids are soooo resilient! She'll be fine - although (and I hate to say this), there will undoubtedly be other traumas, coz that's how life is.

Thank you for your very human, honest journals: at times your comments irritate me beyond words, but at other times you are absolutely, completely, and utterly lovely. I suspect you're a very passionate person - like me!!!! :)

You're doing a wonderful job with Evie; she's an asset to you, and Matt, and will be an asset to the world. We need more parents like you!

Hi Shazzie,

I'm a fellow Brit writing to you from all the way 'down under', where I've been avidly following your journal and checking out the website pretty much every week since the day I came across it 6 months ago! I'm sorry to hear about little Evie's incident with the pine nut, but kids are so resiliant and she's got the best mamma in the world looking out for her - she'll be back at home guzzling super juices in no time. Ohhh, and don't feel guilty - it wasn't like you meant the little poppet to breath it in! How guilty do I feel now? - When we were children, I was playing with my little sister and feeling particularly naughty. I persuaded her to stick as many beads as she could up her nose. She had to go to hospital and get 'em removed - SOOOO much trouble :-) Not quite the same thing I know, but of course she was fine. And very forgiving bless her. Anyway, oodles of good vibes and Aussie sunshine going out to you both! Look forward to reading more soon!. Response to the post below. This is beautiful and amazing news for you and your friends!

"Cooked food is poison" isn't a statement of mine, yet I feel very badly affected by it when I eat it. It's great that your family enjoy more whilst having other food lovingly prepared by you.

I don't judge people, love. I never have, and I never will. Others may, but they're only judging themselves in reality. You're doing astounding work and I'm ecstatic for you.

Bright Blessings to you, beautiful Lady! Just perusing your website, enjoying it all. I have recently begun the Raw Foods journey (in late September) and it has been quite transformative. I made the transititon very quickly and easily (as an Aries, I tend to dive right in!) I fell into catering for a friend of mine and her husband after she saw me and the new glow that I have acquired. I prepare about 70% raw, 30% cooked foods for them. Yesterday, I prepared a totally Raw lunch for a Women's Retreat of 20+ women and also did a little Raw Foods workshop. It was so well received and really sparked lots of interest. I now find myself with a business that is about to excitingly explode!

There is just one thing that I cannot agree with and that is the notion that cooked food is poison. While I truly believe that Raw is the best diet for me, I have found that it is not for everyone. My ever-supportive husband tried to go Raw with me. He is already extremely thin and on a Raw diet, he started losing weight, very unhealthy. He is balancing a raw and cooked diet and that is working well for him. Our 3 year old son is also eating a combined diet, simply because he does not enjoy some of the raw foods that I prepare. I certainly do not think that the cooked, organic, beautifully and lovingly prepared foods that I make for them are poison. I do hope that I do not find myself being judged as 'not truly raw' because of this. I am totally passionate about Raw and want to turn everyone I can onto this way. But I think it is important for us to be openminded to everyone's own personal path. As I shared with the women yesterday, the best thing we can all do is to learn to really tune in and listen to what our bodies tell us. As my husband discovered, as much as he absolutely loves the Divine Raw Creations that I prepare, his body needs some cooked food as well. To deny our bodies what they truly ask for is a great disservice. To feed them what truly makes us glow is the Highest Honor we can do. Thank you, Shazzie, for sharing your Journey with all who want to know about it, and for providing a forum for others to express their Souls.

Blessings on your Journey,
April

What a wonderful pictures of you and your family! Evie is such a cute baby! I really have lots of respect for you being able to raise her 100% raw! I haven't been able to do so with my daughter... I'm still searching my way through raw food now, always learning more.
If you want to see pictures of my family, go to my website (www.ugh.be) and click on my daughter's picture!
Cheers and good luck to you all!

Dearest Angel...

Please forgive for not keeping in touch. Sorry to say; I´ve been so occupied with school and family. Another reason is my route on the raw path. Still, after almost 4 years I cannot get in contact with other rawfoodists here in Sweden. The only person I met(just a few times) went back on a cooked food diet. So I am all alone, again and thats why I lost sight for a long, long time. Then, I got the rawfood videos back from that person, who I only met a couple of times and started watching them, regularly for a whole week! So, I am back on the blessed road to health which you showed me in the first place. I just can't imagine a life without "Shazzie" and raw food! I tasted the nectar that comes from living it...and it is a heavens door open....I think of you all the time and keep telling people all around me about you and your site. In that way I hope someone will be touched by you and your wonderful work!
Love you forever, Love Lena, Sweden!

Hi. Just read your journal. Thank you for your writing about your cesarean. I went in to have a version today but they decided I didn't have enough fluid. I am crushed that they want me to have a CS. I have been vegan for 10 years and eat almost totally organic, do yoga, walk, and feel completely healthy. I don't understand it and I'm so sad. Your words were very helpful. Thanks again,

Shazzie! 100% raw for two weeks now, my husband and I are feeling like superheros! We were fooling around on the net and found your site---woohoo, woman! What brilliant eyes, mind, and spirit you have!
We live in Yukon, Canada, and have not found one fellow raw foodist to share the joys and the fears with. But we will not be overcome! The urges to cook ourselves abate when we visit your site and find humour, inspiration, and recipes!
Thanks for being you.

Hi,

It's great that you did so well on a raw plant diet. I believe it can be a fantastic short term diet. However, please consider this. No human group has lived for any extended time healthily without at least some animal products. See(westonaprice.org), Gary Null, Aajonus
I experienced this myself. With only slight modification (adding animal product(s)it could probably work.

Take care,
Alan

Shazzie,

Blessing upon blessing to you. I have been reading your journals for many months now and find them so inspiring. I am one of those people who eats for emotional reasons and I have been going through a terribly stressful time lately, so have been having a very difficult time regulating my diet, but your journals certainly make it easier.

Thank-you for being the light that you are. Again blessings on you and your little one, and I am visualizing your house for you. I know that you will get the best little nest for your and Evie!

I just visited your site and read your journal and my mind was racing.
First of all I am very sorry and I hope all the best to you, Matt and Evie.

I have been in numerous arguments with my husband and I also have been trying to make our relationship better. But in my case, I just do not have any energy left after a long day between taking care of two young children and taking care of other work. I concluded that people (usually) never change and I have to choose to live with it or leave it. I can see both (staying together and separating) have benefits and drawbacks. Each person have different situation and I wanted you to know that I am completely respectful of your decision. I hope you continue to feel better everyday. Evie needs happy mum;)

(I am a big fan of yours especially after you gave me the kindest encouragement and information that helped me through my successful pregnancy after miscarriage. My little one is almost 6 months old and she is doing great. )

Shazzie,
I've been mulling over being raw for quite a while. After reading your 2000 raw journal I decided to go for it. I am weening myself onto raw foods. The only bad I have left is coffee, and am hoping to let go of that addiction this weekend so that I can sleep in,have headaches, and be a little unpleasant to be around. I gave it up once before and the first two days were the worst. Anyhoo, thank you for being so honest and not being miss perfect "oh, it's the easiest thing in the world to go raw" pants. Thank you for being open with the obstacles that you have faced, both within yourself and socially. It's so human of you. Had I not read your account of your raw journey, I think that I would feel too weak and too isolated as I am already the only vegetarian that I know(not even my boyfriend is), to do something about my health. Right now, I am sort of an emotional wreck, but no one can tell. Everyone around me is convinced that I am able to cope with everything (a lot has happened). I am the patient level-headed one, but it is not really true. I internalize everything and I am getting grey hairs and unexplainable pains. I got my first grey hair at 20, now I am 31.My body-not sure what happened, but I think it has something to do with being cooked. Sort of hopeful but not happy-yet.Well, wish me luck.
You are truly inspiring in a real not-holier-than-thou type of way, and your little Evie is very lucky to have such smart and cool parents. I just wanted to say thank you for all of the good that you are doing, from the bottom of my heart, Thank You Shazzie.

Hi Shazzie,
I have been reading your journal for the past few months and have anxiously been awaiting your post partum journal. As A mom to five, I understand how difficult it is to find time to write. I read the new breastfeeding article on your site this morning and found the information inspiring. I hope you will continue to honestly share your ups and downs with nursing raw.

I did a vegan pregnancy with my 2nd daughter. She, like your little one, was breech and I had a c-section. I have often thought that one of the most difficult things I have ever done was nurse that child after major surgery. I ate about 50% raw and mostly vegan while nursing, but it was very difficult as she never slept and I know now I was raging protein deficient, with my hair falling out in clumps, fatigue and difficulty healing from the surgery.

With my next baby I decided to eat meat as I was nervous about nursing during the pregnancy and getting all my nutrients. I had a healthy birth, good postpartum and was able to produce the milk for two by focusing on getting plenty of protein, liquids, and calories. I averaged 150 grams of protein a day, and about 4,000 calories. I know this may sound extreme, but whenever I would try to lessen food amounts I would not have enough milk. I ate anything and everything.

With my fourth baby, I gradually moved to an 80% raw diet during my pregnancy, using protein shakes to get my protein and eating only a little cooked grains and beans. I juiced, juiced, juiced during this pregnancy, and ended up with an eleven pound son. One of the most interesting parts of this pregnancy was that as I nursed my third child during the pregnancy, when the colostrum came in it was clear white, and very liquidy. My son would gulp it down like the milk. I now wonder if the colostrum that comes out thick and yellow during pregnancy is simply signs of cooked foods and dehydration.

After this birth, I was again tandem nursing and found it impossible to care for my four children, homeschool, and tandem nurse two hungry boys without the nutrient dense foods provided by animals. I have decided that if I had a personal chef, a house maid, and only was required to nurse my boys, sitting quietly eating, I would have been able to continue the raw diet. But I again reverted to my eat everything all the time diet and the milk flowed like thick cream. I tried to keep juicing, and eating my salads, but it was a survival time of grabbing sleep whenever I could, and shoving the food in my mouth to keep up with on demand, no supplement nursing.

I did this for seven months, and then cut my older child down to a couple times a day and continued to nurse my fourth until he was three. At the end of that weaning, I had been nursing for eight years non-stop, with the most intense time being the beginning of my fourth pregnancy, as I was nursing two (My four year old daughter, and my two year old son), and pregnant. I thought I was going to die during that time. I weaned my daughter, but allowed my son to keep going through the pregnancy.

I am very curious to know what amounts of calories, protein etc... keep the milk flowing for you, and would appreciate updates as you go along. I am now preparing my body for my sixth pregnancy and plan to again go 80% raw, I am very curious to see if I am able to tandem nurse without animal foods.

During the six year break before we conceived our fifth child, I got into liver and kidney cleansing.

http://www.naturalfamilyco.com/articles/liverkidney.html

I did about twenty liver cleanses and after my child was conceived I continued to do five more after the sixteenth week of pregnancy. The sheer amount of stones that were passed during these 25 "flushes" was incredible to me, and during the pregnancy, although I did eat meat, I was able to eat much less food as my previous pregnancy's and built a nine pound child and birthed him at home alone in six hours.

http://unassistedchildbirth.com/jennyhatch.htm

This past summer I decided to try a raw diet for a few weeks, and although I felt fabulous after two weeks of complete raw foods, my two year old son lost a few pounds, and I decided to go back to eating whatever I wanted, and letting my appetite dictate how much protein, calories, and what sorts of foods to eat while nursing.

I am committed to gradually moving in the raw direction, but my personal experience has taught me that for pregnant and nursing mothers the most important thing is to watch the growth of the baby, listen to your body and eat to appetite.

I would hate to think that nursing women who are eating raw would allow a child to struggle physically because they are not clued in to how much protein, calories, and liquid it takes to build a healthy child. I found it much more difficult to nurse my sons than to nurse my daughters, and after talking to other mother's who have wanted to eat vegan and raw during pregnancy and have had problems, especially with the children's teeth coming in properly, I hope that these issues are properly discussed and shared on your site, as you "learn by your own experience" all of the in's and outs of natural mothering. People are watching you, and trying to learn. I don't believe there is any shame in eating some animal foods during pregnancy and lactation, especially if the alternative is putting the baby on formula.

Thanks for giving me a place to voice this opinion!

Hi, Shazzie.
I've been looking at your site for a few years now, and it has helped me IMMENSELY on the long, slow road to recovery from cooked food addiction, obesity, and other degenerative health problems. I'm making my 3rd stab at raw and my first at 100% and it is just smashing.
The real reason I wanted to sign your guestbook is to say I think you and your family are absolutely lovely and I think it's wonderful you decided to share your life with us to help make the world a better, healthier place.
Was so excited about the birth of Tiny and I have to mention-- I absolutely KNEW you were having a girl. My friend Melodee and I were talking about it and we just kept saying, "Dude, Shazzie's totally gonna have a girl." And you did! And she's so completely gorgeous and we are absolutely thrilled to pieces for you!
I hope you continue to find joy and happiness- you truly deserve it.

All the best,

Your site and your book are simply fabolous! I have tried out so many diets and been a vegan/vegetarian trough many years, but never really found it ideal. Last easter I was finally back to that tranquil and carefree state that I have not reached since childhood. I think the biggest "carrot";) in your diet is just that - the peace of mind. It certainly is scary how much ones diet affects us on such a deep level!

Shazzie, you are my inspiration for all times! Since I went raw (about half a year now) I feel so much better and have more energy. Of course there are days when being raw is a bit more difficult (for instance, when I'm invited to a party), but overall, beign raw isn't that hard to do, especially because I benefit so much from it! I used to take to pills a day, as medication for my allergies and asthma, and now, I don't need them anymore. Since 2 weeks, I even stopped taking contraceptives, which I have been taken for more than 8 years. That couldn't be good for my body... Hope to get pregnant soon...

It seems odd to thank someone for changing your life when you've never met them... but reading some of the other entries into your guestbook make me feel a bit less silly about it!
I came across your website a bit by accident- I was in a vegan chatroom and someone mentioned raw foods- I was intrigued, so I checked around some internet sites. I bought your book (Detox your World) two days later, and have been eating 90-100% raw ever since! I wanted to say thank you for your openness, honesty and for the love you show for the world and everything in it. Your journals kept me engrossed for days- I am so thankful to have someone else's experiences as a reference point for my own transition.
Thank you again, and I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world for the coming year (& new member of your family!)
