| Comments: | i am a 14 year old girl looking to find out who i really am. i am doing a research report on adoption when i got curious. i was born in oklahoma city, oklahoma. i am part indian, i believe that i am part sioux. i am not completely sure though. i do not know anything about my birth mother except that she knew my adoptive mother. my adoptive mother made her get her GED. my bm has/had brown eyes and brown hair. i was placed with the family i have now because (or so i was told) she thought that it would be better for me to grow up with someone that looked like my adoptive father (hispanic/south american) [black hair/brown eyes]. i was born on July 16, 1993 at 2:02 in the afternoon.

Culture or heritage My children and grandchildren inherit much of this injustice just because I am an in the ‘Class of Adoptee’ born between 1940-1980 in the state of Michigan. I have a nephew that was adopted. We knew the mother. when she told us she was going to give the baby up for adoption we mentioned it to My sister in-law that had no children. It was arranged and the adoption went thru. He is now in his fifties and was never told he was adopted. He has lost both adopive parents very recently. Would it hurt him more to know that he was adopted? He has three siblings that I knew at the time he was adopted. We have never heard from his birth mother after the adoption. If anyone has any ideas on this please write me. I do not want to hurt this boy. we love him very much. |

It appears that the name used might possibly be a "fake name". I am so discouraged it's unreal. Within the last nine months both my adoptive parents have dies. Recently my "mom" passed and we are now going through her things. I still have yet to find anything she had pertaining to my adoption. | Comments: | This was written in response to websites I came across advocating the right of the birth parents.
I'm sorry but I would like someone to explain to me why birth parents have the right to remain anonymous. Why the adopted child has no right to know what their true heritage or their biological makeup. Furthermore. I would like to know if the people creating these laws and those allowing them to continue, as well as those advocating for them are adoptees. And if so, what their reasoning is for this. I realize that some could think that it could devalue the adoptive parents position in the child's life. I am here to say that adoptees know who was there for them growing up. We know who are 'real' parents are; but there is always a part of you that wonders who you look like. Where you come from. Your nationality. Now all of these things pale in comparison to needing your medical history; however, for your overall well-being and sense of self, I think it is important. Now I understand that some children, like myself are 'skeletons' in peoples closets and thus the laws remain on the books. However, I bet if you took a poll of the birthmothers/fathers immediate family and friends at the time of pregnancy....they will probably tell you they had a thought that there was a pregnancy. I believe it probably was never discussed because once the woman went away and returned childless, it would have just been down right rude to bring the subject up. Anyway, I really would like to know the thoughts behind those who are against me knowing 'WHO I AM AND WHERE I COME FROM'. Feel free to email as obviously I am biased to this situation, but I have looked at every reason I could think of that birth parents would like to remain anonymous, and can't think of one case that overrides the right for me to know. And I say this realizing it would cause pain and issues for some of the reasons children have been conceived, but even so, I shouldn't have to live my entire life not knowing. |

| Comments: | I am in the middle of trying to locate information about my birth mother. There is a lady from the New Jersey Catholic Adoption Agency who is helping me but believe it or not, the state of New Jersey is turning out to be the problem. I thought there was a law passed called the "Freedom Of Information Act" and this stuff could no longer be kept secret but I'm still running into brick walls.
One concern is that my mother made a confidential deal when she surrendered me. Well, sorry folks but neither she nor anybody else had the right to make such a deal because it involves me and my origin and information about my life. If they want to keep secrets, let them keep secrets from themselves about their own life and leave me alone. I wish I had a nickel for everybody who tried to block me from locating my mother's whereabout etc. I mean to be honest, I'm sure she's dead. It's a feeling I have but I'm fairly intuitive.
