I'm not wanting to have a relationship with my birth parents though, I just want to know my medical history. I want to start a family of my own, and I think it would be a great thing to know. Even filling out doctor forms gets difficult when the medical history section comes up. It's just hard because I know nothing about them. I was adopted the day I was born. |

The older, my stepdaughter, is still trying to find her birth parents. Her adoptive father and I have decided to work full time at this until they are found. There is a big hole in her life that needs to be filled before she can move on; only someone who is in her position can truly understand, but having lived with her for many years, I have better understanding than most. |

We were originally placed in the foster care system with a younger brother He was not adopted with Paul and I. I was told he was raised in CT foster homes and never adopted. I was also told that he was married and lived in Texas and died in his forties. I would love to see a picture of Steven. I would love to talk to someone who knew him and is willing to share memories I never had. I am also interested in finding my birth mother and her name was Thelma Farnsworth, originally from the state of Vermont. I discovered she actually gave birth to ten children. Paul and I thought we were a family of just the three of us. I was born in 1953 in Montpelier Vermont. I am also interested in medical history because Paul had MS and I also am disabled. But it took me 25 years to find the rest of the family, and by that time found out my real mother and father were both passed away. My mother was killed in a hit & run accident in Houston, Tx. in/around 1972, and my father was killed in a motorcycle accident in/around 1974. I found out I had two more sisters, and a brother. I have still not found out concrete proof of geneology, and am having difficulty in that matter. We are supposedly Irish, French, and Native American. But cannot find proof of any of it. I know I have a bunch of family living in South Dakota, from both sides and have been there for a long time. |

The sealing of the records needs to be reversed. The times have changed and if you are over 21 you should be able to obtain the records. The government says its a right to privacy but it's really not. People do not want to intrude into their children's/parent's lives to cause them problems but rather to enhance their lives about where they really came from. The government needs to open the records and stop allowing so many people to make so much money off of something that is just morally the right thing to do. |

| Comments: | I am a female adult adoptee who was adopted in the late 1950's. My mother could not keep me because she was not married and had been fired from her job because she was pregnant. She was not a teenager, she was 29 when I was born. She did not drink, and was not a drug addict, she didn't even smoke cigarette's. Her only crime according to those who would judge her was she was not married. Her family did not offer to help her. She was guilted, shamed and told she would be selfish if she did not give me up for adoption. My father was not held accountable. He did not have to sign anything. My mother did not talk about the adoption for 22 years until we were reunited in 1980. She never married and had no other children. I have had emotional problems and low self esteem most of my life. I was able to have my records legally opened and received my original birth certificate when Illinois started changing the laws. I have a problem with trusting people. Things really need to change, I really believe we need open adoption and open records. People of the closed adoption era are the ones who have been hurt at the expence of the adoption industry. My mother felt they only wanted the baby. She felt as tho they thought of her as a baby making machine. All the lies that people tell to get people to give their babies up need to stop. My mother and I are human beings with feelings. People need to learn that babies grow up and become adults. My mother did not even get a chance to even try to be a mother. The shame should be with the adoption agencies, the state, some churches and the government. I think it is time for the state, and government to have no say in adoptions. All of the adoption triad should be treated the same. The adoptive parent's should not have all the say. If respect is not going to be given to all of the members of the triad then people should just keep their babies. Whether they are married or not. If there was more respect and less judging then maybe there would be fewer abortions, and happier and healthier adoptions. |

I contacted my birthfather and found that there is another man involved, but the only people who have this record is the adoption agency. The Adoption Agency is witholding the name of my other possible birth father and this must change. We all have a right to know who we really are. |
