As a human being I'm enraged, and the point could not be clearer, that this country was formed under hypocritical and cruel dilussions of "freedom". It an example of greed and hunger for power, and I will forever be disgusted and heart broken for the men, women and children who were murdered, not only there, but all across America in those times. My children will know well of these things, and I pray they will feel it as much in their hearts as I do in mine. It's my greatest hope, to raise them to respect and honor all people and to live their lives by what good is in their hearts, and not by what is to be gained or posessed. | Comments: | My Great-Great Grandmother died on the trail of tears. It pains me to think she was just left where she died, and her children left without a Mother. I am fiercely proud of my Cherokee heritage, and my daughter's dad is Laguna Indian. I've taught my children to be proud and to respect the Earth, the birds, the waters. I hope I have done a good job. My oldest son, Jarrod, was killed last year by a Spanish boy. I still have bitterness in my heart, but I know someday I must forgive him. Thank you for your writings.

| Comments: | I don't really know what to say. I am so broken hearted and embarrassed that I know so little of history. I am about to make a journey across the dakotas to montana and thought I should perhaps read the book, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee," while on the journey since I have never read it. Now that I have read this, I am not sure I can read that book... or any other, not for a while anyway. This has torn at my heart so deeply. I do not know what I can do to make a difference, it is too late, it was too late when the bluecoats directed Chief Big Foot to Wounded Knee Creek. Killing started long before the whiteman came to these United States and took up against the Native American people, and it continues today and will no doubt live on long after I am gone. I do not know what makes one believe they have the right to take another's life and I am pretty sure, I will not be the one who makes this change in man. I will teach my children the value of life, of each people. And I will certainly encourage them and myself, to read and to learn as much as they can and to respect the brave Native American Indians. And I pray that all of those who have suffered they find themselves together and at peace at the Hoop of People. And I hope they will forgive me, for while my Mother and Father were good people, I am a descendent of the White Man. |
