| Comments: | Just starting some research into family history and I stumbled onto your site. It daunts and gives hope at the same time. My Paternal grandfather was born Oren James Gilliam near Ann Arbour Michigan. He was brought to Canada by his father John and mother unknown and, I was told, they came from somewhere in the south. Oren married a woman named Elsie Briggs and resided in Hamilton, Ontario Canada. Oren died in 1960 or '61. Curiously, when I was reading your work, i found the passage about pronounciation of the last name. It was always stressed to me that our last name does not rhyme with william, but instead ends with the am or um sound. Any info you could direct my way that you might think helpful would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and attention, Dan |

| Comments: | I'm a book collector researching the provenance of a copy of an 1839 edition of "Democracy in America" by Alexis De Tocqueville. I acquired this book a couple of years ago from an ebay seller from Georgia. The book had been deaccessioned by the Columbus, Georgia Public Library on 11-18-54. A previous owner signed his or her last name on the top right hand corner of the title page: Morton I'm wondering if the person who signed the title page was Marshal Morton, one of your descendants (MM in some of the letters on your website). My research shows that he was the City Manager for Columbus, Georgia from 1934 to 1938. The library jacket record shows that this book was first signed out on March 26, 1938. It is possible that Marshall Morton donated this book to the library in 1938. If I have aroused your curiosity, we can compare the signature on the title page with Morton's signature on one of your family letters. |

| Comments: | Nice job! I am descended from Obadiah Woodson and Constant Watkins thru their dau. Judith's marriage to Moses Fuqua. Do any of your documents mention the Fuqua family who were also (presumably) Huguenots? I know there were intermarriages between Fuquas and Mortons, andI think at least one Fuqua-Dupuy marriage. Much of this info is from early Kentucky histories. |

| Comments: | Hi Virginia I ran across your site in the process of looking for Mortons in Charlotte County, VA. My dad's father's mother was a Morton from what I was told. She was still alive in Phoenix when I was young. She was married to Joseph Olney Jennings (Twin) 10/1868-1945 Roanoke township. He was the son of John J Jennings b.1832 or 35 married to Margaret Elizabeth born about 6 or 7 yrs after him. (he was a blacksmith in 1870 & 1880 census for Charlotte) Joseph Olney's wife's name to the best of my knowledge was Mary Elizabeth or Elizabeth Mary Morton. They were my great grandparents from their son John Willie or Willie John Jennings b.05/1896-03/1970 to my dad David Olney Jennings 01/25-09/91 to me born 03/58. By the census in 1910 and 1930 my g grandmother should have been born in 1876 and they married in about 1893. My grandfather John Willie was their 2nd child and 1st son. She lived until at least about 1967 or 1968 in Phoenix w/ my Aunt Dolly Florence Hamlett married to Charlie Hamlett. Dolly Florence was one of her younger daughters. I have done well in finding out info about the Jennings family and some for the Hamletts as they married many of my granddaddy John Willie's siblings. However I can't find anything on Mary Elizabeth Morton my g grandmother at all prior to her marriage to Joseph Olney Jennings. If you have any info or if you could direct to someone who does I would be forever thankful. You have a great website yourself and it is really beautiful. Oh I am in El Paso/Ft Bliss TX so it is very difficult to get info anywhere except on line. So many thanks for any help you might have and thanks for having your site available. :) Elizabeth Ann |

Either Silas's son, Lucius or his grandson Lucius (son of Lucius) left Weathersfield VT where they lived and moved to Brooklyn NY. Lucius is my 3 great grandfather. I have one qwuestion for you regarding the Warren descendancy. I have that Ruth (m. Samuel) was the daughter of Daniel Warren Jr and not David. I show Daniel as having also come to merica with his parents, marrying Mary Barron (dgt of Ellis and Grace)and their sonn Daniel m. Elizabeth Whitney and they as parents of Ruth. This was not proven so yours makes more sense. Do you have anything about Daniel? I love your pictures. They llok just like those of my grandmother (Elizabeth Delano Hitch) and her sisters. She married William Kenneth Biglow son of Lucius H. Small world...I have a friend in upstate NY who is a Woodson descendant. |

There is a slight error in your data. Your site shows the following: "Children of Jacob Woodson and Elizabeth Morton Woodson: 1. Obadiah, b. April 6, 1775, d. Sept. 1864" I am a direct descendant of Jacob's son Obediah. He died before the 1860 census was enumerated. In fact, he died September 19th of 1852 or 1853, according to the microfilm covering Appomattox County deaths. | Comments: | Lots of sweat and love in your site. I guess we're distantaly related from the 1600's So please tell me more about the "Ayer Genealogy in the Burton Historical Library in Detroit". My Ayer family like me are from Detroit. I am decended from John & Hanna Ayer of England then, Haverhill, Mass. My information has them comming over on the Brigantine, “Mary Ann", not the James, though I have seen the "James" mentioned elsewhere. I am posting requests for clarification on various internet sites. I'm sure theyare the same John and Hanna Ayer. Cheers Ray |

| Comments: | Thanks for the site! I believe we have some common ancestors. I understand we can trace back to The Mortons and Woodsons in Virginia. At some point, we ended up in Oklahoma (and my grandfather Morton, whom I never met, in Colorado, ironically, in the same town where my mother was born). |

| Comments: | My brother Pleas told me about your site and it seems very possible that if not desendents of the Morton's of your family tree, our families are intertwined by history. The most interesting aspect of our site to me was the will of Patty Morton. The land of which she speaks of and the slaves that she mentions could have very well have been from which my family comes from. Most of my fathers family still lives in Prince Edward County in Farmville, VA. Thank you for creating this site,it lent to some insite into my family history. |

| Comments: | We really enjoyed reading your web site as we are extremely interested in the Watkins Family link. We purchased the Watkins' Family home of "Woodfork" in Charlotte Co. Va. about three years ago and are attempting to restore it,a labor of love for sure! The Watkins Family here in Charlotte Court House has been most gracious and kind to us. They adopted us immediately. We were given a copy of the History of the Watkins Family that was published in 1852. We are very interested in any photos of Woodfork, portraits of Col. Joel, or Henry A. or Dr. Joel Watkins, or documents or any information anyone may have. Thanks! |

| Comments: | I've been looking for a trace of my GG Grandfather, Daniel Caldwell who was from Virginia. I found a marriage in Farmville, VA of a Daniel Caldwell and Martha Woodson on 2/19/1830. Just above the recorded marriage was Siala Biglow and Judith Woodson. I found your site via Google and will read through it more when I find time. There are supposed to be several Morton links to my Caldwell family who eventually settled in Littleton Township in Illinois. I'm really hoping the Daniel Caldwell and Martha Woodson marriage I found is a missing link for our family. Thank you, Peter |

| Comments: | Came across your page on the Gilliam family today while doing a little surfing. I'm a Virginia Gilliam and this information was really great. I had not heard most of it - Dad only gave me a thumbnail description of the family while he was here. We always heard about the three brothers (John, William, and Deveraux, on the Constance in 1635). There is a book in the Virginia State Library that contains the passenger lists of ships that came to America, and their names appear on the manifest for that ship. Unfortunately the name of the book now escapes me as it has been quite a while since I did any geneolgy work. Anyway, I'm glad I found this page - I will be back when time allows to browse a little more. Regards, Robert W. Gilliam III Richmond, Virginia rgilliam@erols.com |
