I grew up on fuller st. Pine hill was my back yard. we picked blueberies all summer there. We played in the little caves and caverns that noone knew about. I wish I had pictures of the place to show my children and grandchildren. When I go back home to Waterbury and see the CROSS------I know I'm home.

Thanks for the photos . Holy Land is only a distant, childhood memory for me. I still live nearby, but have not been there.
It would be my most sincere wish that someone would restore it.

Born and raised in New Haven, CT, Holy Land was a "must-see" creepshow/sideshow attraction for any and all self-respecting teenaged Nutmegger. Truthfully, even in the early-to-late 70's, the place was freaky and creepy, emanating a weird, unsettling air of eerie obsessiveness, its cheap and cheesy "exhibits" and "artifacts" somehow (unintentionally) blaspheming and demeaning to the God they were intended to do reverence to. Even then, the hellbound neighborhood around it (if there is a pun there, it's intended)made the pilgrimage an exercise in urban daring-do, so I haven't been back since. I left the state in the early 80's, forgot about it, and only re-thought about when I'd pass by it when driving west after visiting my sister in Meriden. Amazed and pleased to find it still standing (pleased because I am a firm believer in the preservation of anything so unabashedly freaky and creepy)I am even more amazed that more than one website has chosen to "honor" it with a mention. Thanks for allowing me to "look inside" again without having to navigate the mean streets of Waterbury to it.

(yeah, we actually linked to you guys). Just a side note about the "Honor God" if'n ya didn't know. It was put there by a bunch of boy scouts earning a Merit Badge when they fixed up the sign they were given permission to write that with the garden blocks. Nice job with the photography, I like the temple shot with Waterbury in the distance.

Fascinating...I really wanna see this place. Maybe Holy Land will be the world in the future, churches, relics, and other holy symbols simply neglected and falling apart.

Hey nice pics! That place is so sad I'm told that it was once a very nice place to go and see. Unfortuantly to many year of neglect and vandilism have ruined it. Trust me when I say that you Do Not want to visit the catacombs. I'll send you some pics of it.

Okay. Remind me to never go to Holy Land, U.S.A.
Shutters with the kind of fear that only memories can spawn. Again, great job on the site so far, I'm going to prod my way through it a bit more then I'll come back in a bit. --Kolton

Hmmm... a page dedicated to HolyLand... as well there should be, but it seems to be lacking photos. I DEMAND INTERNET PHOTOS! Also, another trip to the parts we didn' see (catacombs, perhaps) Do the nuns really take care of it still? They've done quite the job with it havent they *Sarcasm* But, truly, put in some of the photos soon. I think they will be well appreciated (and horrifying to Christian, Bhuddist, Pagan, Atheist alike) Blood paint running from the name of Jesus is relatively chilling, I'm told
