Hi Skip.

I’ve just begun the process of putting together my family tree, and your website of the Hudgins family tree was a gold mine for me! It turns out that I am a direct descendent of the William Hudgins born in 1755 in Aylesford. His great granddaughter--Lillian Hudgins (born in 1878)-- was my great grandmother. Lillian married my great grandfather John Rock and moved to Malden, MA. My 95 year old grandmother Catherine Rock STILL lives in the very same house that Lillian raised her family and died in--on 52 Avon Street in Malden.

I'm sure you don't have it...but any info on Lillian’s husband John Rock (my great grandfather) would be very appreciated! Would also love to know more about this Hudgins clan…these are my people!

This stuff is so fun! And addictive!!!

Best,

Michael Rock

stumbled on your website. My name is David Grayle Howlett (47 years old) and I live in Edmond, Ok. I have lived in Oklahoma most of my life. My father's name (deceased) was David Andrew Howlett. My mother's maiden name is Rose Ann Haws- although she still goes by Rose Ann Howlett- my mom and dad divorced in the mid 1970's. He had one brother, Grayle Howlett (deceased) and one sister (Katie) who resides in Florida- not sure where, although I have occasional contact with her. Her last name now is Grant. My dad's dad was Grayle Howlett, Sr. and he owned the Tulsa Drillers, a double AA minor league baseball team in Tulsa, Ok. I believe, if I remember correctly he had some minority ownership in the Cleveland Indians. As a young boy, I have a vague memory of attending a ball game with him in Cleveland. Found reading thru your website very interesting.

Your website is great. My Great-Grandmother was Emily Howlett, daughter of Robert, Grandaughter of Thomas Hymes Howlett who was born in 1785. We are from Deptford, England. I found your coat of arms and its very fitting. Yours obviously travelled through the Navy and mine were all lightermen working on the barges along the Thames. They all seem to be conected by the sea. One of them on my side of the tree alledgedly won the Doggetts race in London but I am yet to find evidence.

I have a friend who is a Howlett. When I suddenly realised my friend for more than 20 years might be related, I asked him if his family came from Deptford and without hesitation he said yes, they were all lightermen! He also knew one had one the Doggetts race but neither of us know which one.

I was told our family came here with the huguenots. You have mentioned a French connection too. I also wondered if the name 'Hymes' might be Jewish? Some Sephardi Jews went to France and changed religion after the Spanish around 1500 and they often took names relating to nature or the town they originated in. (one of my other tree branchs is Jewish so I know a lot about it now having traced them back to 1433 in Spain). If anyone can help with my research of the Howlet side please contact me.

I'm trying to put in enough of Patricia's family data to get it to generate on it's own and hopefully get a link to what you have in Legacy.

Is there away you can let me access your legacy Fowler/Richardson/Bourke files? So far it appears i can't do anything important on the free Legacy.

Freda had 2 sisters Olive Howlett (oldest) who was a missionary nurse in India for a time and became matron of St Columba Hospital London for some years (during the war i think and up until about 1955), Alice Howlett who went to America before the war, worked in the Riverside Club in N.y. and eventuall moved to Fort Lauderdale FLa. There was one brother - I think William as they always called him "brother Bill". I have some old photos that need a home as i will be retiring to S, America shortly, am childless and would like to see these go to "the family" especially the Thame branch

Hello to all from a Canadian branch of the Howlett tree. Thanks to a dear cousin, my family has been traced back to Benjamin HOWLETT B: 1800
Wood Dalling, Norfolk, Cty Middlesex, England. From reading the Guestbook it appears many of us originated from this area and quite likely are from the same line. I hail from Regina, Saskatchewan. My grandfather (Arthur) homesteaded here, my ggrandfather (Alfred) homesteaded near Gray, SK but died in California. Our immediate line has a Chicago/Toronto/California connection.

I would like to introduce two Howlett families.
My name is Peter Howlett born in Sydney, Australia 27th Dec 1934.
My father was Frank Howlett (one of eight children) born 8th April 1891 Ash Railway Station, Surrey where his father was Station master. Was a Pioneer at Auto Road (later Leacross) in Saskatchewan, Canada 1904 - 1914.
His parents were William Augustus Howlett (1851 - 1907) & Elizabeth Boozer (1853 - 1942). William A. was born at St. Andrew the Less, Cambridgeshire. Had four siblings.
His grandparents were William Howlett (1825 - 1871?) & Jane Ann Scott. He was born at Reach , Cambridgeshire.
His great grandparents were Robert Howlett born 1788 at Fordham, Cambridgeshire. Wife Elizabeth.
His g.g.grandparents were William Howlett & Elizabeth.
If there is anybody out there related to this line I would like to hear from you.

The other Howletts are on my wife's side. She is Brenda Evelyn Hamilton Jones born in Paris on 22nd April 1932.
Her parents were Percy Joseph Hamilton Jones & Mildred (Milly) Harriet Howlett born 30th November 1899 in Paris. Mildred had three siblings.
Mildred's parents were Paul (Papa) Albert Howlett & Mary Agnes White. He was born 11th July 1868 at Vevey, Switzerland & died 1943 in Paris.
Her Grandparents were Albert Howlett & Harriet Jarvis. His parents died during or just after the siege of Paris in 1870 & he was raised by his uncle William Howlett. One of his brothers was Edwin Howlett who was a leading whip & instructor on "coach & four" etc & had highly respected stables in Paris. Edwin with his son Morris established coach clubs & services in New York.
Her great grandparents were John Howlett (born around 1800 Norwich. Norfolk died 22nd April 1879 ) & Sarah "Suzannah" Matthews (180 - 1872). He was possibly the last of 17 or 18 children & one of twins. They moved to Paris around 1830/2 to be coachman for Richard Seymour Conway the 4th Marquis of Hertford.
I am keen to find out more about the family's background in Norfolk & would appreciate any help.
Thanks in anticipation. Peter

Wow, I feel like I have just struck Gold! We have been trying to find the Howlett line for almost 40 years. I married Dan Howlett in 1969, and we are working on the Howlett line. I have been able to trace our line back to John Howlett, born in Norkfolk Co., Watton, England in 1774, but records were burned so we could go back no further. He was married to Pleasant,(that really is his wife's name). Their son is John Howlett Jr. born 25 Jul 1796 in Norfolk Co. Watton, England. He married Rhoda Riches (or Recke). She died in 1835, so he married Caroline Rogers. John's son is Edward Robert Howlett who died in Lake Odessa Ionia, Mich. The next son is George Albert Howlett born in Mich and died in Palisades, Mesa, Colo. My husband's grandfather is George A.'s son, Frank Lloyd Howlett, born in Steamboat Springs, Route, Colo. Dan's father is Vincent F. born in Greenriver, Emery, Utah. His first son is Daniel V Howlett, my husband. We have two sons who bear the Howlett name, one has only girls, but the other has a one year old son named Maddox Jackson Howlett. He is the only one in our line who will cary the Howlett line on in life. We now live in Utah, near Salt Lake City. The LDS Church is in the process of making a web sight where all of us can work on our family lines. This will be a good thing for all of the Howletts.
It will be VERY HELPFUL to those who are very proficient on the computer. I am just learning computer.
Hope those of us who are related can get in touch and keep in touch. Sincerely, Kathy J. Howlett

I have one brother of this lineage david. my father is robert howlett.. My side of the family stretched the east side of the US. I have learned quite a bit of it... As far back as I understand.. Howlett is derived from the scottish name Owlett (baby owl.) thier coat of arms was a shield with ribbons on the top left and bottom right and teo owls on the opposing sides... When they came to America, they brancheed out with : owlett, owlet, howlett, and howlet... still trying to keep the original name..

And the earliest that I have is aroung 1400 a.d. o'doul and howlett married. which begins more directly of my linage. and whats funny is the names married again somewhere around 1930... and then my dad's mom was married to O'doul but later married into howlett... Thankfully no imbreeding has taken place...lol but thats what I can contribute... And nice to know that Even though I havent met anyone of you all... For comeon im in Louisville,Ky USA...lol but I do feel a little closer...

Fun info... Now this could be false but I was looking into The family name... Back in 94... And found out that owlet was a loyal name and clanned with highlander(no not the movie but thats where they gots the last names believe it or not) But The clan of highlander had the families of Mac donald, owlett, Mc cleoud, O'connor, and Wallace.. but a lil fun fact...We might not be immortal, but there is definitly more than one.... lol

I have been doing genealogy for over ten years now. HOWLETT is in my family, through marriage.

Henry GREEN, born about 1815 in Necton, Norfolk, England son of Henry GREEN of West Bradenham, Norfolk, England, son of Philip GREEN born abt 1746 West Bradenham. Henry married Sarah HOWLETT August 17, 1837 in Parish Church, Necton, Norfolk, England.

They had ten children, one of them being Stephen HOWLETT GREEN, which is part of my link.

Also have a Henry HOWLETT and his wife Anna living with Thomas and Susannah TINGEY (my great great great grandparents), at the time of the 1861 Census. Henry HOWLETT was born Oxborough, Norfolk according to the census. Anna born Boughton, Norfolk. Married June 1860. I think this might be one of Thomas and Susannah's children, as dates match.

If this means anything to anyone would be glad to hear from you. My genealogy email is sourier at yahoo dot com.

Mary
