Hi, I have been researching the history of my two family names and I have discovered a link with a one time editor of your `Maccano Magazine', Hubert Lansley who started the `Stamp Collector's Weekly' which became the `Maccano Engineer'. In 1923, I understand, Mr Ellison Hawks then asked him to join the Maccano Magazine team and his was with them I believe, until 1930.
My maternal Grandfather, Robert Henry Strickland, Principal of Ellis and Co., makers of Cailler's Chocolates, was a travelling companion of Mr.Frank Hornby on a Voyage from New York to Liverpool via Nova Scotia, on the R.M.S. Lapland.

John Seymour-Lansley

I`m new in the Web, and as an former Meccano fan (I was born 1957)was gratefully surprise to find out that there is still so much happening around (serious) Meccano-constructing. I still owe an (aprox.) N°9 [from 1968]+ motorized set (the one with the 6-gear yellow e-motor), but many of my parts are damagged or dented. Thanks to your Website, hope to become parts is rising again in me. I will take my time to search for all the wonderfull information that you offer. Thanks a lot!

What a lovely informative site ! congratulations,it is obvious the amount of dedication that you have put in,thanks for sharing the wonderful world of meccano, despite the computer age its still timeless,I like Meccano aeroplanes and the Camel is on my list to build some time,it cap[tures the character of this famous aeroplane.
Just re-kindled my interest since my father has left me a large collection to add to my own extensive set.
I have an eleven foot span De Havilland Dragon Rapide aeroplane in Meccano, somewhere I have a picture and will put this on the pictures page soon,it took me several months to build and breaks apart into sections to store!
Keep up the wonderful work that you are doing to promote Meccano,as long as there are enthusiasts then Frank Hornbys legend will never die, what a man he must have been to have all that foresight, the longevity of Meccano is a tstimony to his name.
Best Wishes,Barry Clay

Great Site - some good models - The Somerville Triple is upo to Eric Taylor Standards - congratulations. My interest is fine scale models - cranes - blocksetters (real ones not the cliche Cover model - more like the Santa Cruz proportion) - dockyard cranes -(Cowans) and railway steam breakdown cranes - Craven and Cowans. My childhood heros were That Gut Willens from Amsterdam - Coltman the crane man from Loughborough - Eric Taylor - and some guy from Wellingtom NZ who did a D9 Cat. Anyway - anyone want to swap technical stuff about the model subjects above - OK.

Best regards.

Hi Meccano fans,

I am currently trying to find any outlets that sell the meccano range of components particularly in the Stoke on Trent area could anybody please help...

Having the younger generation so tranfixed by their non-mindo games consoles is unhealthy and I want to find something that will not only give them enormous satisfaction in creating something for themselves (Something that todays consoles do nothing to promote) and hopefully give them an appreciation for engineering and sciences through this still remarkable kit ...

Having not seen any Meccano sets for sale in latter years I am saddened at the apparent loss of this vastly educational modeling medium...

Having three brothers who each had sets when young who have turned into a Consultant Electrical Engineer, a Physisist and a top computer bod, I thought I'd try to encourage the next generation to have fun while at the same time learning.

Can anyone help. JS

we built a demonstation model of our new revolutionary engine out of meccano this was to prove the timing theory before we actually made a full working prototype
meccano proved invaluble as a mechanical learning tool as well as a good proving ground for our engine hope you get as much enjoyment from your sets as we do ours laurie & john archer

Hello,

I found your site really amazing. It is so nice to share these great acts of imagination with the rest of us.

However, my message is about my 12 year old boy who would like to build something that walks as Mark Peters also requested on May 17th 2001. Since I am really hopeless in giving him any useful ideas, it would be nice if some of you wanted to share your science with a dreamer. If it is not too much trouble repeating again what you might have said to Peter.

Thanks for your help. If anything comes out of this, we are sure to share it with you.

This is absolutely WONDERFUL; I came on it by accident while searching 'home improvements' for window shutters !

You have made the most amazing job of the Camel; when I was very young my uncle & aunt had some mecano aeroplane kits, but they were very agricultural compared to your beautiful creation.

Very best of luck with your project; what next ??

Could I get the email address for Roger Poulet, the builder of the Rorailer. A fellow engineer is designing a wheel to go on tracks (rails) and road. We have been looking at Roger's Rorailer and we wonder if it was intended to go on road and rail without modification between uses. We think it uses a 3" pully with a 3" tire for the road but the rail wheel has us beat. It looks like a 4" circular plate (146A) but we can't figure out the load bearing part. It looks like a 3.5" circular girder but my Meccinv only shows a 5.5" circular girder. Otherwise the rail wheel could be a few formed slotted strips clamped in place, a bit bumpy though.
We would love to hear from Roger Poulet.

A beautiful modell wich give me much enjoyment by building
and satisfaction by finishing, and that for a scale modell
with a restricted amount of pieces and minimal bending of
strips and plates. For motoring I took the solution placing
the motor in de rear fuselage and I used the Meccano motor
removed from his caging gently squeezed between strips and
bolts.

Dear sirs or madamme,

I grew up with erector sets here in America, but only last
weekend discovered Meccano with my kids. What a kick! FAR
superior to erectors. Who would have ever thought to make
the strips FLAT so they could be bent! I made the (what
looks like a...) Morgan in the 2/3 book. Never could have
made the fenders with AC Gilbert's girders! Anyway, as you
may have figured, I've got an English set. I've got the "1",
the "2/3", the "4/5/6" and the "Junoir power drive set"
booklets, and about enough pieces to be a 4/5/6 kit. The
stuff looks to be about 25-30 years old. I would like to get
more pieces and/or sets. I would prefer the English sets as
most of my pieces say "made in England" on them.
Specifically, I'm looking for two #187 road wheels, two #199
curved plate,u-sections, and a #26 pinion. As well, lots of
extra bit parts. Do you have any suggestions? I live in
Colorado,USA.

Thank you in advance for your kind attention,

Dan Tulenko

and i am looking for a meccano club in my area,if there is
one. i was a big fan of meccano in my early teens. i am
know 52 and have been looking for big meccano sets for the
past couple of years. my last set that i had was a big set
with a couple of motors in which i could build fairly bog
models like a 'container lift that is used to empty boats
carrying containers'. unfortunatly i gave it away many
years ago. i've regreted since then.i would like to
purchase a set simmiler, but don't where or how. i would
like to get back into meccano, but where do i start?.

Great to see traditional 'toys' being supported in this way
- so nice that there's no electronics or - um - internet -
getting in the way. My father bought three draws-full of
second hand Meccano when I was little (c.1960's) - don't
know if it was for me or him! Pity it had to be sold when
he died. I wonder where it is now?

I was interested to see that there is so much relating to
the subject on the net, being both new to Meccano and
modern methods of communication.
I was wondering how much Meccano I would need to build a
scale model of the Forth Rail Bridge, where I would obtain
it from, and whether any plans are available.
Any information regarding the above would be much
appreciated.

I really like the way you have written up your instructions.
I just hope that the parts list is accurate. I have enough
parts to build this model, but after building the 2-cylinder
motorcycle engine (model 10-16), I may be short in some
areas.
I certainly plan to build this model.

Excellent page Chris. I've being looking for plans for a
decent bi-plane to get me back into modelling (to keep my
Meccano Aeroplane Constructors Kit Bi-Plane company!) and
this looks just the ticket. Will let you know how I get on.
Many thanks for making the effort to share this with
everyone.
