| Comments: | It has always been a dream of mine to become a writer of
romance fiction. My mother has a photo of me at age 3 sitting up on a couch, asleep with pen poised appropriately over my yellow notepad. Of course, I was not attempting to write a romance novel at the age of 3, but writing has always been "in my blood." I have forgone that dream and taken many detours along life's pathways--married at age 17, have 5 children, now 6 grandchildren, and went to nursing school somewhere along the way to become a registered nurse. But still the strong desire to write books has never left me... But, fear of the unknown, i.e. "Where do I start?," "How do I begin to find an agent?," "What about my grammar?" "How do I 'write a picture' so the reader can actually 'see' the story?" "How do I get published?" "Could I even begin to assume that anyone would ever want to buy anything I wrote?" The insecurities are massive, yet I feel compelled to write at least 1 novel/short story to try. Sort of a Catch 22 it seems. I met JoAnn Ross a short while ago and it brought up all my old yearnings to write, again. She recommended this website and I can see a flame of hope beginning to flicker on the horizon. There is actually a support group for 'compulsive' writers-to-be like myself. I find this extremely exciting. Thank you for being there. I look forward to meeting many of you sometime in the near future. |

history, science, chemistry, and other things like that. I've had a pretty good background in ninteenth and early 20th cnetury English and American writers, and hadn't read Romance until just about a year ago. I don't know why I started, but I find that Romance is a very good, well written, well plotted genra in general, and it is certainly worth while reading. A lot of people are pretty surprised to see a serious guy who reads a lot now reading a lot of Romance. I like Catherine Coulter, Linda Lael Miller, Jane Ann Krentz, Leigh Greenwood, and have a special fondness of Elizabeth Lowell, aka Ann Maxwell. There are many others as well, and to mention them would make this a very long thread indeed. Anyway, this is a delightful genra with a lot of talented people working in it, and I'm glad to have found you guys. Be careful of what you smoke in the Smokey Mountains. Stephen. |
