I got your newest record, Lasciate Ogni Speranza, two weeks ago and I've realized it's too heavy to get out of the CD player!!! I got the CD originally and then nabbed the vinyl the other day at the Mastodon show here in Winnipeg, Canada. This is the best shit since the new Discordance Axis record guys! In a world congested with so many mediocre extreme metal acts nowadays, mainly in the grind and crust scenes, it's very refreshing to hear a band like Social Infestation who challenge themselves and definitely carve out a unique sound amongst all of the lame, faceless bands who stagnate and feel threatened to push forward. I really dig the slow, brooding "Autopsy Riffs", as I call 'em on the new record. It keeps the sound intertesting and shows you dudes aren't afraid to progress and do what the fuck YOU want. I also love the idea of explaining the lyrics to the songs, which is something you rarely see. I think it's necessary since some people may not be able to grasp Eric's deep and beautiful poetry. And "beautiful" is not a word I throw around too much, so consider yourself a talented lyricist, Eric. I think it's important for songs to be memorable, and this is something that is accomplsihed to incredible acclaim on this record. I didn't find myself bored or distracted once while listening to Lasciate Ogni Speranza, for the weird dischordant melodies sucked me right in. That may be what sets you apart from most so-called "grind" or "crust" bands, is your use of melody and Voivod-ian dissonance. It puts you in the same league with His Hero Is Gone, Neurosis, and Eyehategod. The different vocal styles used on this album put the fucker right over the top. By the way, the killer artwork is what caught my eye initially and made me want to throw on the album in the first place. FUCKED-UP-SHIT man! Right on par with Pushead. Anyway, Troy was wearing a killer S.I. t-shirt that I'd like to purchase from you guys, as well as I'd like to get the other CD. Let me know the prices and I'll send some cash your way. Troy, the Mastodon show was a mind-altering experience man! As much as I love Lethargy, Mastodon takes the fucking cake! The blend of "Southern charm", melody, emotion, and technical brilliance in this music means so much to me man! There are certain bands out there that go beyond the realm of music, and Mastodon is one of them. You should tour with Neurosis. Let me know of any developments in the band, and I hope you guys come back to Winnipeg if the assholes at the border ease up a bit! more people there. tabula raza kicked it off into high gear, though there were some complications those fuckers still rocked! the energy was intense. next up was the atlanta masters of crust OTO-MA-PHOBIA. these guys rule eveytime i see them. activity was pretty high during thier set, a lot of tough guy dancing and "moshing".(it was hot as fuck in the club already but things got hotter when dave flonted those fabulous abs! woo-hoo!) also beware of the OTOPHOBIA discography CD with all 2 7"s and various covers and cuts from comps. next in the line-up was atlanta's politi-doom(?) SOCIAL INFESTATION. another high-energy set from both the band and the "crowd". all high octane material with a spash of weirdness. the vocalist donned corpse paint (how cheesy is that!) and the bassist and guitarist wore masks. after the "blackness" subsided, GUYANA PUNCHLINE from S.C. played a short but intense set. i'm always looking forward to seeing those guys, they definately give you your dollars worth! the last band to play was a psycho-billy type band from Gainesville, FL called THE HAM. pretty good though the crowd was all about gone by this time. the bassist broke a string and lars the vocalist told a story. if you weren't there then this is what happened. if you were, well good for you. atlanta needs to support the bands that play, or no one will want to play here. a lot of bands pass here cause it's becoming known that atlanta has the tendancy to suck. so quit bitching and go to some shows. :) |
