I, too, am a survivor of molestation/rape and am looking for ways to fight the system that protects their rights while stripping me of my own. If anyone can offer any ideas as to how the laws can be changed-such as the statute of limitations- I would appreciate hearing from them. I live in Wa. state. If anyone would like to reply just to talk and understand that healing does occur, I am willing to do that,too. I am now 37 years old, have two beautiful daughters of my own, and coping well with my past. It is an unfortunate thing that my molester/rapist still walks the street of my town, but until the laws are changed I have done what I can. He even received a visit from the local sheriff's dept. Although the sheriff deputy believes this man guilty of all charges, there is nothing further to be done unless he commits this crime against another child. I say that it is definitely time to change these laws and the only way to do so is for all people to join together in the fight to protect our kids. Thanks for your time and effort on their behalf. | Comments: | Hi everyone i just found out a few weeks ago that my 7 yr old was abused by her grandfather.Well it has been very difficult for me to deal with since I found out.I have so many feelings but the main one is that I feel guily for what this man has done to my daughter.He admitted to doing this to the police and was not arrested.He only has a warrant that he had to walk in and sign and we released on his own recognence. Why? Because he doesnt have a previous record and his age.I wish I could change our law ,how can someone admitt to abusing a child and walk free. I recently received my MSW and am currently working at residential facility in Denver for severely abused and neglected children. Over 90% of our children are survivors of sexual abuse! | Comments: | I was molested by my now ex-stepdad from the time I was 5 until I was 14. My mother says she never done anything about it because she was scared of her husband. Thanks to my half-sister, all of this came out in the open. He had molested her also. Charges were dropped for what he done to me but he served 1 WEEK in jail for molesting her. I am now 32 and this man that done these awful things to me is on his death bed and his mother wants me to go to him and tell him I forgive him for what he done. I can't and won't do that. I don't forgive him. I get angry every time I think about her calling me and asking me to do this. My own grandmother (my moms mother) called me one night and said "Your daddy is in the hospital and is not doing good, you need to go see him." I love my grandmother she has been more of a mother to me than my actual mother, but at that time I was so mad, I had to hang up before I said something to her I would regret.
I have 2 children, a 12 yr old son and a 10 yr old daughter, they both something happened to me when I was a little girl. I have not gone into details with them, but I will. From the time they were VERY young, I have told them about not letting ANYONE touch them in a way they don't want to be touched. People tell me that I am an overprotective mother, if that is the worse someone can say about me, hey, go ahead. It is my job and honor to protect my child. I wish my mother had protected me. Thank you for this website. I wish I had found it years ago. I never got counseling for what my abuse and now in my adult life, it is showing. |

Many of us who are and who have been JWs are upset over the irresponsible, unresponsive stance of the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society heads over us, and how this has disgraced our religion's name and the good name of God Himself. Therefore the following was prepared, showing we, the rank-and-file among JWs who deplore this policy stance, unite with former JWs who have left in disgust, as well as you the public, in calling for the Watchtower Society (WTS) headquartered at the "Bethel" complex in Brooklyn, New York to immediately reform so as to provide protection for all our children! The WTS heads have put out pat responses to the membership defending their policy, and the following points out the fallacies in those responses. The shame is that JWs are not told the opposite views, are even threatened with being severely shunned by other JW family members and friends if they speak up about the matter. If you know of Jehovah's Witnesses, please mail or email them copies of the following. If you put it into their hands they are under orders to throw it away as the WTS heads have told them it is "apostate," that is against "God's only true organization on earth," but if they get a copy in the mail or maybe stumble across it at a laundrymat etc, then being curious and out of sight from others who might snitch natural curiousity takes over. The Bible also says there is a time and place for everything and also to respect the superior legal authorities. | Comments: | I am a 34 years old male survivor of sexual abuse by a nextdoor neighbor. In 1980, when he was caught, I was one of 5 boys he had abused. He was released from prision 2 years later. The next time they caught him, he had victimized at least 16 more boys. I have struggled alone for years, even though I got some counseling, I still had to battle with Alcoholism, anger issues, depression,teenage pregnancy, estrangement from my family, peers, ect. If you added up all the time this guy did in prision, and divided it by the number of victims, he got off so easy it makes me sick, and I find it so hard to believe in the courts. All the signs were there, but I couldn't believe it untill my son did some weird stuff to his dolls. My ex husband is walking free today and I know that he deserves to sit behind bars. After my son was hospitalized two times in a psychiatric ward for kids the dumb judge has ( after three years of trials and tons of evidence against my husband ) to allow visits to resume although they will be supervised I ask God WHY???? This man has caused nothing but misery.. He is a classic case of a sociopath. I am sure his mother molested him and they ( his idiot family) supported him through the entire trial. We need to make sure that judges are understanding of all of the strange idiosyncracies of children who are molested by family.. They should be forced to take tests and classes before being sworn in to handle such cases as my sons. I just wish that, as a pedophile, victims of such abuse would not keep using the term "pedophile" to label their abusers. "Molester", or "Sex-abuser" is a little more fitting. I am a pedophile, sexually and emotionally attracted to children. In no way, however, does this imply that I would abuse a child in way of coercion or force. In fact, there is a little girl that I love of 8 years and she loves me, with her parents knowledge and all. I believe my unconditional love for her is benificial, and so what if I think she's completely beautiful and attractive? I could never have sexual relations with her because it would ruin everything we have with each other... the way I feel inside about her, I think I could marry her in 15 years (I'm only 10 years older). I just thought I'd let you know that there are pedophiles out there who truly love your children and would never harm them in the way you were harmed. Maybe if we could reconcile these difference and find out why some people are sexual attracted to children, this kind of abuse would end. When they told me that he had sexually abused my daughters and their two of the girls friends I was floored. I didn't Know you could love someone one minute and hate them so much the next. How had I missed what he was?How can I ever forgive myself for missing it.How could I have been in love with this monster. But, there was nothing ...no signs that I knew of,they were making good grades,they seemed to love him,they acted normal, they seemed happy,he seemed to love us,he was always concerned about our health and welfare,there was no history that I knew of ,of him abusing children. I had even told my children when they were old enough(by the age of 4 )were their private areas were and that they should say no to anyone ,dad ,uncle grandpa ,friend,aunt ,anyone who tried to touch them there,and to tell someone if anyone tried.(I told them this on and off most of their lives so much so my daughters would tell me, I know! Iknow!But, that still wasn't enough.Somehow I failed them!!! The only thing I can see now is that he had a hard time keeping a job.I had to work long hours to pay the bills.He would complain that his health was preventing him from working or his boss was just too unbearable to work with. We had been fighting about him not working enough but I never dreamed he was sexually abusing the girls. Except for being lazy he was a good husband in front of me.Always worrying about our health ,wanting to always do things as a family, and always very concerned and caring if one of us was hurt. So,maybe I'm just stupid I don't know.But, I never saw that evil side of him until that day they told me what they picked him up for and that there was pictures. I am so angry!!!! At myself for not seeing and at him for taking my beautiful daughters innocence away from them. I found out later from my oldest daughter that,He had been torturing(sexually abusing) my babies for at least two years. He is in jail and is looking at a very long sentence. THANK GOD!!!! We are lucky that this part of the country deals better with these offences ,and because of the pictures he took there is no doubt!!!! Please someone better educate us on what to look for and what to warn and tell our children. This has got to stop!!!!!!!! |

I too know the pain of discovering that your child has been sexually abused. I have a 25 year old and a 22 year old daughter, both were abused by a paternal uncle in the 1980's. My husband and I only found out in 1997 when my oldest daughter became acutely depressed and had to be hospitalized for treatment and for some drug abuse. This uncle and his wife were my trusted child care providers while I worked evening shifts in an Intensive Care Unit and while his wife and I managed a personal business in our spare time. In March 2001, this man was indicted by the local Grand Jury for one count of rape, 2 counts of sexual battery and 2 counts of indecent liberties with children. The trial will be in August 2001. The most devestating part of this is that the oldest daughter (rape charge) has suffered so much humiliation dealing with depression and drug abuse. My youngest daughter has suffered as well. Before her psychological therapy, she suffered nightmares, bouts of RAGE, inability to trust, and she is addicted to Nicotine. At this time, my oldest daughter is in a drug rehabiltation facility out of state trying to regain the necessary tools to begin her life again. This animal robbed my children of their innocence, their ability to trust anyone or anything except the drugs that ease the anxiety and pain. To make matters worse, their PATERNAL Grandparents are supporting this animal. They have told my children that if they do not "forgive and forget" what he has done to them that they will "go to Hell". They told my children that they are trying to ruin the family reputation in the community, publically call them liars and troublemakers. They told my oldest daughter that she was a drug abuser because she "enjoyed using drugs"!! They are financially supporting this animal's legal defence. They co-signed for a loan to free him on bail and they are paying for the most expensive legal representation in the area. What is even more incredible, this man has "confessed to family members and to clergy that he molested my children"!!!! My husband is absolutely heartbroken by his family's response. My parents cannot fathom grandparents who would support a child molester over their own grandchildren. The only way my children, my husband and I are surviving this ordeal is our faith and our trust of the legal system. This police and the Commonwealth Attorney in our area have been marvelous in their support to have this animal prosecuted. The animal's minister and my inlaws shout that he has confessed to God his sins and he will never do it again. The problem is, psychiatric professionals and statistics on child molesters say that these animals are "NEVER CURED" all it will take is the right circumstances and the primal urges will surface!! I truly hope that God has forgiven him, but I cannot begin to forgive him until he faces the legal ramifications established here on Earth. This animal has not appologized for his actions, he simply states in a "Flat Affect" voice that "I don't do that anymore!" Despite the horrors that my children have suffered and are still suffering within the family, they are very concerned for their cousins (the children of this animal). They witnessed him fondling his son (the same age of my youngest daughter). He made it out to be a game for the children. My children do not know weither he has molested the 12 year old daughter or not and they are hoping the court will order manditory psychiatric evaluations. Oh, I forgot to mention, his wife, my sister-in-law, knew that he molested my children 10 years before our oldest daughter had her breakdown. The animal confessed to her. I despise her for not informing us so that the children could have obtained psychiatric treatment at that time. She cared for no one but herself and protecting her marriage. |

with my fears and grieve. In 1979 my son and daughter were sexually assaulted by Thomas Boothroyd. I was physically, verbally and emotionally assaulted by Thomas Boothroyd. He threaten to kill my children if I testified against him. In spite of his threats I testified. He was found guilty and because it was his first legally 'documented' abuse he did no jail time. In 1980 he was found guilty of sexaully assaulting 2 boys he was sentanced to 30 days in a mental hospital. I have just recently come out of hiding from this man and have discovered that he was again arrested in 1992 for sexual assault of 2 boys. He was in a differant state and they were not aware of the assaults in the state I live in. I am working with the state where he currently lives to get him registered as a sex offender. He has managed to not be registered so far. I am horrified by the thought that he will assault yet again before he is stopped. He began he pedophile behavior long before I testified in 1979 and he has continued offending and it is now 2001 when will he and others like him be stopped? I have dedicated my life to empowering children to say no and tell someone if someone is hurting you. I believe we need to declare a War on identified Pedophiles. Put a stop to those that we know have offended. Declare NO MORE to those that have already hurt our children. Not allow them to continue to assault over and over before they are finally stopped. In 1979 I was told by the police, that this man would kill a child someday. Then he would be stopped. How many children must be hurt before we in society make this stop? How many children must suffer before we make this our highest priority? I am going to write a book and try to publish this topic and encourage society to band together and fight back. Two weeks ago, my family learned that my niece ( 7 years old) has been sexually abused by her step-father. It was devastating to find pictures that he had taken of himself having intercourse with this little innocent child. She is in therapy and he is in prison. The family is torn apart and we are worried that he is not going to get a long enough sentence. He was also involved in child pornography by taking pictures of her, and this has been taking place for atleast 2 years. My niece has a great support system, but we would really like some feedback from others. |

| Comments: | Dear Debbie, I feel for you and your son. I know the pain both of you are going through!I am a mother of two beautiful children. My daughter is 12 years old, and my son is 10 years old. I am also a surviver of child molestation. Nothing was done to my father--he was the one who molested me. On May 1,1999, my daughter was molested by a "friend". We have had court dates that keep being moved and it is so frustrating! The offender did spend some time in jail, but is now out and staying 2 1/2 blocks from us. I wish there was something I could do to make him move further away. I just hope that when we do get to the final court date that he will go to prison for a long time. I guess that since I was molested it gave me the knowledge and courage to believe my child and step forward to try to get this child molester to pay for hs crime against my child!! My molester didn't go to jail,but God knows what happened and will deal with him when the time comes! I WISH THAT NO ONE WOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS---WILL THIS EVER END???????
