Comments:I was just wondering if this is the same Valient that spent some time, quite a long time ago, at Halali Farms in Conroe Texas. The owners were Sam and Nancy Leach. I am their granddaughter and have just recently purchased a welsh pony for my daughter and was trekking down memory lane and googled Valient and this is what popped up. If it is the same Valient I would love to know because I loved that pony and if it is not that is okay too. I remember he was a stallion and he was dapple grey and he had a great personality. It would have been in the mid to late 80's I believe.

The Homesteader was a stud that she foaled while my parents had her, what other ponies did you buy from my mother? I might have some other pictures of Wishnik from the early 70's since my mother died I've got boxes of pics that haven't be opened yet thanks for the "look back" Les Franks

Comments:He is stunning. I grew up in Conroe Tx and we had a gray welsh pony stallion stay at our farm named Bristol Valient. That was about 18-ish years ago...is this the same pony? Our farm was called Hallali Farms and was owned by the Leach family. Again this was when I was a child but he looks so familiar and the name matches and I just loved that pony.

I have a wonderful outside mare by Bristol Encore that is supposed to be coming to be bred to Dragonwyck Bristol Illusion (aka Louie) this spring. Not to mention I have three or four of my own that I am covering this year. Still waiting on two foals by Louie; one out of RosMel's Pirouette and the other out of RosMel's Fairy Sprite. I've also acquired another GlanNant Tango daughter that I hope to be able to get one last foal from. WE are definitely bringing a full trailer load up to the Katy Show this spring and hope to see you there. I hope this finds you well and in good spirits. Best wishes always! Belnda

I was going to mention how some of them look like smaller Arabians, then I read your notes about the Arab infusion in some bloodlines. I will read more of your wonderful story. How great that you introduced your breed to Texas.

Me too, I was so misguided as to look at Paso Finos, what ever could I have been thinking - there is only one equine for me, the Welsh. You should be very proud, you set out to change Texas and you surely did. You were a terrific teacher and a great mentor. I'll be looking in the future for "Bs" for me and my baby - she's going to be tall (imagine) so we'll start out with Bs. Love Jackie

Comments:Ok, here is your random guest book entry of the day! I have a mare that I got from a rescue in Washington State. They got her from the Hermiston Auction in Oregon where she had, according to them, been bought by a kill buyer. She is really nice and is likely a Welsh/Thoroughbred cross. I sent her info out to all the welsh breeders I could locate in Oregon and one person said that she looked a little like a mare, Evans Angelica Fairacres, that this woman knew of. No, we do not think my mare is Angelica, she just said that she looked like her. Especially in the head, and I agree. Angelica is by Bristol Shadow Dancing and I cannot find any information on this stallion--or more than one picture. Is this where Bristol Shadow Dancing came from? Is it possible that he was bred to a TB mare in 2002 for a 2003 foal? Or around that time. According to my mare's teeth, she appears to be 5 this year. I am not sure how to post pictures here, but can send you an email with pictures if you are curious. She is black, 13.3 hands, an irregular white star and snip, and appears to be crossed with thoroughbred blood. Thank you for taking the time to read this! Erin

Comments:I am very interested in getting into breeding Welsh B ponies. I have ridden and shown both English gaited and Western quarter horses. I have raised horses most of my life, but have spent the past seven years breeding and showing Nubian dairy goats and Lincoln and Wensleydale sheep. I am ready to return to horses, but have decided to follow my heart and go with the Welsh breed. I am a strong believer in linebreeding and know the importance of staying true to your vision, and finding the right seed stock is the first step. I'm looking for a few good mares and a colt that is good enough for breeding. I would like something ready to show to begin with, as well. Please let me know when you have something available and your pricing. I'm sure I cannot afford the best, but I would like to get the best animals I can for what I can affrod to spend. I look forward to hearing from you.

He took great pride in his work and was very successful. Sadly, we lost him to cancer at twenty six. I still miss him. Mince was a grey, with great bone and that wonderful Welsh head and movement, kind, and just as handsome inside as out. Sorry, i did'nt intend to sound maudlin, just wanted to tell you about him. I am very grateful to own Bristol Ponies. More importantly, I am truly blessed to have known you and had the benefit of your experience and breeding program. Bristol Victorio and Bristol Jade continue to rule here at Mt. Dragon. They are both such a part of our lives and the success we have been fortunate enough to enjoy. Our best producing mare is a Victorio daughter, Evans Bram Stoker. Other Victorio daughters include Evans Paradise City (who is one of Jade's daughters) Evans Mystere, and Evans Poison. Many of Victorio's daughters grace the pastures here in the NW and through the country as valuable Section brood-mares. Our young show stallion, Evans Providence Of The Night is a grand-son of Victorio. We also have a Bristol Sun God daughter in our broodmare band. I would love the hear from you. Comments:Ms.Cherry, I recently entered into an agreement to sell Kathy Rawl's ponies on the East Coast. In the first of three ponies she sent me, was my first exposure to a Bristol bred pony, up close and very personal. She is a gorgeous liver chestnut, 4 year old daughter of Bristol Victorio, whom you know that Kathy owns and dearly loves. Allie, as we call her, is the most intelligent pony. She is more human than any other equine buddy I have had the pleasure to work with. She might take just a tad bit longer to make her see it "our way" but she is without a doubt a piece of equine history in the making. Thank you for being in business and giving us all the wonderful ponies you have given us. It's up to us to keep the Pony business, one of reputable people and breeders. My hope for the future is that all serious breeders DO HAVE A PLAN, LIKE YOU DID!

We had named our farm (Bristol South School of Equestrian Arts, LLC,after my hometown of Bristol, RI)before I was even aware there was a Bristol Pony Farm. However, once I knew there were "Bristol" ponies out there....I felt like I just had to have one......regrettabley they are few and far between...and very seldon for sale, and I see why! So I guess my Bristol South farm will remain without a "Bristol" Prefix pony. I unknowingly missed being part of a great Welsh pony legacy. Please visit us when you can! :) Maxine

Thank you for your dedication to the breed which has given me a wonderful pony. Rebecca

Comments:How surprised I was to find your historical article on the Welsh "B" types and find so many familiar names! My own Welsh, a B, was out of Lithgow Polka and Brays Island Blue Boy. Now having read the hisory, I see where Brays Island was, and I see that Lithgow Farm was just up the road from where I live now! Also, I bred my pony to Cusop Sheriff and spent an incredible summer with Molly Butler at GlanNant farm as a girl, riding all her ponies then showing them at Devon!. Thanks for you wonderful information!

Comments:Hello, I am a Wyoming resident who got into ponies because our children were getting older and taller and so we were thinking about how to get bigger ponies than the one that we bought off a truckload of ponies that came from the Farthing ranch over by Cheyenne. She was a cute little chestnut pinto thing. So we used our two 3/4 arab,1/4 quarterhorse colts on this little mare and got three cute 12H mares, two of which were pintos. Well, eventually the progeny of the horse-pony cross got big enough to look little like ponies, so we eventually ended up with a Glannant Epic son, purchased from Thalia Gentel. I have raised many half-welsh ponies from this, now I have collected two purebred mares by trading stud fees and so on. We sent the last H-bred to someone in New Jersey. Who would have supposed any of my ponies would go so far from home. We are just a small enterprise! I recently looked at a pony (stallion) whose sire is Bristol Victorio. I ended up looking at some sites that showed some pictures of Victorio and learned a little about the ponies behind him. I now thinkI would like like to aquire Evans Keltie Kid if he is still available. It would be nice to produce half welsh from my pinto mares that wouldn't go gray like my Epic. When I can I will study up on your interesting articles on these ponies. I have been working my around to aquiring a few purebred mares to replace some of my little cross bred mares who are working on twenty years and up. So Ive been looking at the websites from the society's listing, trying to learn more about what the different lines represent. My mares aren't real big-between 12 and 13 hands. So, I came to your site because I was curious about Victorio's background.

You merely mentioned that you'd been involved with them for forty-some years but, having now viewed your beautifully designed and highly informative website, I am thoroughly impressed. You've done such wonderful things for the horses and the people who them. And to think, you're my neighbor & fellow Friday-night dine-arounder....sheesh! It's obvious that a person could learn a lot about horses (and cooking and yoga and goodness-only-knows what else) from you. You really are quite a special lady; I am so glad we've met!

Comments:Hi! Through a long series of events, I found your website. I am looking for a pony for my daughter who is a solid intermediate rider, although she is only 8. Sadly, her own pony died of colic. In the past, I owned a riding stable just North of Austin, and many of my students purchased ponies from Becky Francis' Oakmede Farms that used to be located here. I loved those ponies! Becky is now gone, and although I've travelled across the state, I can not find a nice pony for a reasonable price for my daughter! I thought I would check with you on any leads you might be able to give me for a good pony. We are willing to travel (TX-LA-OK) to see one! I currently teach riding still, but only part-time. (I am now a full-time high school teacher.) Here's what we need: Age 5-12 13.1 to 14.2H Any color Good mover, but doesn't have to be an A Hunter (we do eventing, not hunters) Either mare or gelding is okay Great if the pony jumps, but we can train if needed under $4000 My daughter, Kaitlyn, is jumping 2' 6" and can ride something that has a little more go. If anything, she doesn't like a super-quiet pony, so something that's not really a beginner mount would be fine. If you know of a pony that might work for us, I would appreciate any information you can give me. Sincerely, Vanessa Conner Conner Combined Training at Spicewood Farms, Austin, TX

Comments:I must say I have sure been adding to your site count lately doing pedigree research. I am so thankful that folks like you have taken the time and effort to make this site. I am just recently "crawling out from the woodworks" and if you have time to visit my homepage, you will see what I am up to. Specifically, I have been unable to find online (new to this also) a mare called "Monarch's Lola T", American pony registration # 1941. "Plum Creek's Golddust" sired by Pendock Puccini was mated to this elusive mare. Have you any info on this mare further pedigree wise? This is just as difficult as genealogy for humans. I just thought I would ask...and drop a line to say thanks for the info I have acquired from your site...so much history. Also, I have a Welsh book collection of sorts dating from 1964 yearbooks from National Welsh Yearbook up to 1984 editions of Welsh Roundabout. I doubt you need any pictures or info on Welsh, but just letting you know I have some really old photos within them should you expand this site.

I had to travel 700 miles to get them due to the fact that here in Georgia there are very few welsh ponies. I would like to start raising section Bs and I want the original type. I grew up with horses and ponies but the Welsh is new to me as far as type. Are there any books on type and standard? I want to stay true to the welsh type. I have read all I can find on the welsh and I have visited several farms in other states. Just wanted to let you know that I found your web site very informative.

Comments:I rode Nan Schmidt's Timbercreek Tudor Miss from 1975 until she died quietly at age 31 up here on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state in 2003. "Missy" was a grey roan 13.3 Section B mare with a dead calm nature. She was a careful and gentle child's pony when a child was aboard. But she had enough spunk to stay abreast of the field when I rode her with Jack McKinney's Chireno Hunt from 1976 until we moved to Washington State in 1998. I also used Missy with the Riding for the Disabled Program in Houston because she was tall and stout enough to carry handicapped adults. Missy dropped one foal in 1979 - a bay stud colt sired by a neighbor's fence-jumping Doc Bar line stallion. We named him Mischief. Mischief went to live with Shae and Kristi Butts in Valley Lodge when my husband and I moved to Egypt in 1996. Mischief was diagnosed with terminal cancer the day after he won a Reserve Championship at age 24 and was put down in 2003. Even in her late 20's, Old Miss happily carried me through the Olympic Mountains, forded rivers, climbed steep trails, crossed high narrow bridges. Our Texas Welsh ponies are - well, a whole 'nother country!

Comments:Hi, Cherry, I finally got to the 21st century. Still holding tight on the "old fashioned" real Shetland. People think Scottish Shetlands have not improved in the last 100 years. Truthfully, they, like ours, have gone both ways, good and bad. Nice to talk to you. Virginia

Comments:Hello I am the new proud owner of a chestnut colt who's family tree is full of the Bristol prefix. I am compiling a web page for him and hope to be able to "borrow" some of your pictures of his family from off you, please. This would help with teaching others all about his wonderful history, the Cusop Sheriff's and GlanNant Tangos and Bristol Sungods that are back there for all to see. Seeing them "live" in photos is a super way to learn more, to be able to see their type and colour and "presense" is just priceless. Best regards from one "old fashioned Welsh pony lover " to another. Carolyn

Comments:Cherry, I had been looking to get some of your Sect. B bloodlines to start our little farm. I finally came across a mare for sale I couldn't pass up, Bristol Solara. While I don't have her on my farm yet, she is still nursing a colt, I will have her here in Connecticut in October. Also, she has been bred back to Bristol Houdini! We are very excited about having such a quality mare with classic bloodlines, your bloodlines! I saw Diane and Lara at the MD Pony Breeders Show this weekend and they told me you didn't know who was buying her and that I should drop you a line. Let me know you recieved this message. I would love to here from you about this mare.
