Comments:Yay!

Someone actually read one of my reviews! :)

If "Dangermouse" wasn't a kid's cartoon it probbaly WOULD be
perceived
as homoerotic. :)

CatGirl is marketed for a comparatively grown-up audience.

In the UK, anyhow.

In your opinion.
But the cartoon argues that the boy's place is with his
father.

IMHO young boys DO need a positive male role-model.
But IMHO the cartoon is unfairly biased.

Are you calling ME a lackey of the USA cultural
imperialists? :)

The reviews are all IMHO - this is the SECOND time someone
has
responded to one, and the other time was also
when someone disagreed with my opinion.
Truth is, maybe my reviews are a bit controversial at times.
But if it gets people talking about my site, and increases
the
number of visitors, then I won't worry. :)

Heya,
I just encountered a review of 'Catgirl
Nuku-Nuku' on your webzine
and, to put it simply, it's a bit off. Firstly, not all
anime is meant to be hard-edge
thriller material. There is a lot of light-hearted silliness
as well, and Catgirl is a definate
example of such. Reading deep themes into it is an extreme
case of overanalysis. You
could as easily read homoerotic themes into Dangermouse,
after all DM and Penfold
live together and DM dresses like a Village People rip-off
(skin-tight body suit and
eyepatch, hmmm...;) or comment on the fetishistic undertones
of typical superhero
catroons (all that form-fitting rubber again). Some things
just lack deep meaning.

Regarding some of the
review: Akiko (the mother) isn't seen as a bad mother
because she's a career woman, but because she's insanely
over-protective.

Kyusuke (the father) is equally a bad father: he's overly
lenient and lost in his work most of the time.

Oh and "Yes, in typical self-serving Japanese style the
manga-makers have attempted to foist their Nippon culture on
the world. " Hmmm? And just how is this different from the
US culture rammed down our throats by Hollywood?

-Stuart, annoyed otaku

PS: i'm sorry about the tone of this mail, but anime is a
passion of mine and I dislike seeing it misrepresented, and
Catgirl is a personal favorite for it's
complete lack of depth. Just ask Richard Hughes. :)

hi there,
Thanks for taking the time to sign my Durham Red
guestbook. Have you seen Carlos' official site? actually it
appears to be down at the moment, but it could just be
re-locating. Incidently, I havn't been that interested in
Star Wars ever since i read about the plans to kill off
chewie in one of the books.
Thats gonna be pretty damn awful huh?
