I often check to see what is new with VS or the original members and was shocked to read of his passing. Shane and I stayed in touch for quite some time, I crossed the big pond and stayed with his family and spent much time there with Dave and him. (I remember stopping by your place for a quick hello) Dave and his friend Mel came here to the US and the favor was returned he stayed with my parents ( imagine that a punk rocker from England staying with my parents). My father often tells the story of them staying with them. I tell people of him standing on a bar in local town singing his heart away to BruceSpringsteen Born in the USA... it has been about 25+/-years but great memories. VS helped put Bristol on the map for Punk/Hardcore. So sad to read about this... |

I have very fond memories of him from being an 18year old would be punkette, he was always a gentle, sweet chap. | MESSAGE : : | I got my Evening post at the City v Colchester game on saturday & was pleasantly suprised to see a picture of Vice Squad inside. This quickly turned to shock on reading the tragic news. I remember around 1981 helping Dave & Shane carry their equipment down Birnbeck pier,in Weston s Mare after a gig ther on a cold windy night. Daves girlfreind at the time got her stilettos stuck between the boards, much to Daves amusement. I use to print posters/newsletters/fanzines etc for the band and whenever I saw Dave at gigs in Bristol he would always look out for me & have a chat. Time passes & we lost touch, but I would occasionally see him at Ashton Gate or at away games. It doesnt suprise me to hear he gave up his time to help his local junior rugby club. | MESSAGE : : | Controversial I know, but as good a punk band Vice Squad are, they can't get away from the fact that they are a kick ass melodic heavy pop/rock outfit, and Paul & Beki should return to writing the great Bombshells anthems we older fans appreciate. Punk is so negative & old hat, that's why Beki & Co will never get the fame & fortune they so thoroughly deserve, and dragging up the dead corpse of punk rock is folly. They are such brilliant song writers and musicians it makes me sad that they don't sit down, re-invent themselves, then bless the stagnent Metal scene with the greatest band since Sweet blitzed 'Top Of The Pops' in '73 with 'Blockbuster'. Paul & Beki you have talent light years ahead of anything that's been in the charts since radio became not worth listening too fifteen years ago. I listen to your old Bombshells demo tapes and I'm sad - no frustrated, that there's an audience out there completely oblivious to the greatest band Britain has ever produced. |
