I often check to see what is new with VS or the original members and was shocked to read of his passing. Shane and I stayed in touch for quite some time, I crossed the big pond and stayed with his family and spent much time there with Dave and him. (I remember stopping by your place for a quick hello) Dave and his friend Mel came here to the US and the favor was returned he stayed with my parents ( imagine that a punk rocker from England staying with my parents). My father often tells the story of them staying with them. I tell people of him standing on a bar in local town singing his heart away to BruceSpringsteen Born in the USA... it has been about 25+/-years but great memories. VS helped put Bristol on the map for Punk/Hardcore. So sad to read about this... |

| MESSAGE : : | I got my Evening post at the City v Colchester game on saturday & was pleasantly suprised to see a picture of Vice Squad inside. This quickly turned to shock on reading the tragic news. I remember around 1981 helping Dave & Shane carry their equipment down Birnbeck pier,in Weston s Mare after a gig ther on a cold windy night. Daves girlfreind at the time got her stilettos stuck between the boards, much to Daves amusement. I use to print posters/newsletters/fanzines etc for the band and whenever I saw Dave at gigs in Bristol he would always look out for me & have a chat. Time passes & we lost touch, but I would occasionally see him at Ashton Gate or at away games. It doesnt suprise me to hear he gave up his time to help his local junior rugby club. I played guitar in Bristol band "Court Martial",and Dave, Shane & Mark (plus girlfriends) came to see us play a very early gig at out local youth club, which led to us supporting them at the Granary. We also "sang" some backing vocals on their first album & I was a big fan of their early stuff. A great shame to hear of the untimely passing of a great Bristol Punk. |

With Shane and Sooty, he was the person that kept the Vice Squad name alive for some years and I always smile when I think of the Chaotic Dischord albums! I was around, playing at the same time in Bristol in the late 70's throught to the mid 90's and it was always a pleasure to bump into Dave. I last saw him with my family last year when we paid a surprise visit to him at his bar in Spain - needless to say, we made a day of it and left somewhat the worse for wear! I went to the funeral in Spain which was obviously a very sad occasion but felt I had to make the journey for a good friend. Both myself and my family would like to pay tribute to Dave - he will be sadly missed. |
