Jen Wednesday, October 29th 2008 - 03:33:19 PM j.evenski@comcast.net I love Sam's story, happy ending and all! One of my kitties (Moshie) has violent seizures - he jumps up and RUNS, so fast and furious, I can hardly catch him, but I'm so afraid he will run head-on into the wall and really hurt himself. He, like Sam, has no awareness of these episodes, and it always happens when he's sleeping (you can imagine how difficult it is to catch the tasmanian devil at 2am, waking up from a dead sleep! I have the scars to prove it...) Moshie has been on potassium bromide for a little over a year, and we've had to try to switch him over to phenobarbital because he was having asthmatic side effects fromt the KBr. However, I am not able to wean him all the way off of the KBr, so he's on both meds now and for the rest of his life (he was also diagnosed when he was about 2 yrs old) :( But without them, he has these seizures every 2-3 days.

Therese Ojibway Friday, May 30th 2008 - 11:49:18 PM ojibwayT13@aol.com I'm impressed! I had no idea you had this great website. It looks really good, Carolyn. Saw you at COSAC but then you disappeared so I couldn't say what I can say now, "Hi!" Hope all is going well in life post-Douglass. Heard from one of your former families and they are doing great. If you contact me at my email, I can tell you more and send along photos so you can see the marvelous change in the little guy and his little (no longer "baby") sister. I still love my work in EI and adore the kids I work with. I feel like I have a family that keeps on growing; each of these kids takes a special place in my heart. Hope to hear from you. Therese

Stacey Thursday, March 20th 2008 - 08:17:50 PM skrystyan@wowway.com I am currently in school for my BA in Clinical Psychology. My ultimate goal is to be a therapist who works with autistic children (using ABA therapies) and their families. I came to be interested in this via our son who was diagnosed with PDD at the age of 4. I came by your page while doing research for a research paper that I'm working on (for school) about a career in autism. Signing a guestbook isn't generally something that I would do but you asked so - I did =) Good luck to you =)

Loray Paul Friday, February 29th 2008 - 01:52:12 PM lorayp@hotmail.com It is so wonderful to know that there are people out there rescuing the merry little hounds in need of help. Thank you for doing what you do. I am sorry to read about what happened to Bailey. Unfortunately, my husband and I have a very similar story to tell about our 1st beagle Dallas. We were uneducated and purchased her from a puppy store. Only to bring her home with fleas, hook and round worms and kennel cough. Over her 8 years of life she had numerous health problems and ended up passing away from multiple organ faliure in November of 2007. After several trips to Tufts Veterinary hospital, MRIs, tests and ultrasounds and thousands of dollars later, they still could not identify what had caused her to lose the use of her hind legs or what caused her systems to shut down. It was one of the most difficult things I have ever gone through. I hope that by continuing to spread the word about the horrors of puppy mills and backyard breading that there will be less stories like ours to tell and more happy stories of beagles being given a 2nd chance at life through rescue.

karen goulet Friday, October 12th 2007 - 10:44:11 AM klynngoulet@yahoo.com I have just spent a month with my niece and her 4 children. Her 5 year old son has been epileptic since he was a year and a half. I believe he has some other disorder that has not been diagonosed as yet. His father sales cell phones because of the flexibility of schedules so he can take his son to occupational therapy. My niece does not drive. I was wondering about the diet mentioned and if it could be tried on a child who has not been dignoised with autism disorder as a test to see if he could improve his develpmental process. He just started in a special needs class at a public school system in Charlotte. His classmates are also challenged but they are able to sit in a chair without restraints and also have verbal skills that he has not been able to develope. He has very limited word development. He does know how to say 'thank you' at appropiate times. His ability to concentrate is near zero but he loves to watch baby einstein and he is trying to say the words on the sign language tape. He seems to have fallen between the cracks. How can he receive the help he needs when insurances are inadequate for the family? Thank you. I am just starting to research. Karen Goulet

We are a 501(c)3 that provides educational scholarships for families running home-based ABA or RDI programs. I am father of Noah, age 4. We have been combating Autism since 18 months. We are ABA, PT, OT, ST, bio-medical. I feel we live on another planet. I love my wife and son, but it is something how so many folks just don't get how odd life can be. That said, life is not bad -- just very different. My wife, Jenny, is wonderful. She works closely with therapists, Noah's D.A.N. doctor, etc. Forgive my rambling - it is just good to say things that I know you will understand. Have a great day. Trevor Collins

He does not speak any words yet, though he loves to make noises and sounds and growls. He can be very loving and gives you kisses. This is a very affliction. We are trying to find out whatever we can about it, and the best way for Cole to be treated. His pediatrician told my daughter ABA approach, so I was reading your website. If you have other information regarding this or other approaches, I would be greately appreciative.

Mimi Monday, April 16th 2007 - 05:46:00 PM i_m_freeindeed@yahoo.com http://rci.rutgers.edu/~sterner/Sam Hey ~ ...came across your website, while surfing the web for canine sleep aggression articles. Yours has been encouraging and I want to thank you for sharing your story. We have a beautiful Rhodesian Ridgeback...a gift for our oldest son and a dream come true for him, when he graduated. Over time, as he approached puberty really, he began having these bizarre episodes, while sleeping and when someone went to hug him during specific times of his sleep...without provocation, he'd attack viciously! It's been many times and felt traumatizing. We now have him no longer sharing the crate with our cockapoo, whose been his buddy since he arrived here @ Home as a puppy, as he even attacked his good buddy while they were sleeping together...again, outta nowhere. Then he'd finally fully awake as if he had no clue what just transpired and go try to lick our cockapoo's head, which now had a puncture mark on it. He seemed like he had no clue that it was due to his sleep aggression outbursts. Now that he's attacked some of our children, while briefly falling asleep in the living room...we are concerned with their safety. They take precedence, understandably, and we don't know what to do. He's been such a loyal sweetie otherwise and is the kind of dog to lay down his own life for his owners-Family...we know this about him. I am perplexed and cry at the thought of giving him back to the breeder, who said that if he has one aggressive moment with her that he will be euthanized. Your article offered a teary-eyed person today (me) a bit of solace that we are not alone in this upsetting & bizarre occurence with our beloved canine friend. Should you have the time sometime, I'd appreciate an e-mail back (see e-mail above)...thanks and I hope you continue to have success and peace with your special brood. ~ mimi

Susan Danielson Wednesday, August 24th 2005 - 02:06:11 PM susan_danielson@antiochne.edu Hi Carolyn!! Riley is doing really, really well. Turns out that he has hypothyroidism, but he's on medication and it's totally manageable. I've actually filled out an application for B.O.N.E.S., since it seems that Riley is a lot more happy and more secure when he has another dog to play with. He stayed with some friends this past weekend and loved being with their beagle (named "Bailey", actually--which made me think of you). I hope you and your pack are doing well! talk with you soon, Susan (and Riley)

Clare Wednesday, August 24th 2005 - 11:34:37 AM smietana@rutcor.rutgers.edu Carolyn, Your website is great, I finally had some time to sit down and view it, and I thoroughly enjoyed all the updates on your life and career. I admire you for your love and devotion to your Beagles and being a foster home for them. If I had more room I would definitely want another beagle. We have "Rambo" our big rottweiler and "Toby" who is a 2 year old mix, but mostly beagle and he is such a love, I can see why you love them so much. I can't get enough of him. I was also impressed by all the enties in your book from all over the world, its amazing how much people really care and search the web for adoptions. You are certainly making many dogs happy in a life they never knew before they met you. Keep up the love and devotion. All the best, Clare

Carolina Robles Hidalgo Monday, July 11th 2005 - 08:59:20 PM carob7803@yahoo.com I adopted a beagle named "PINTO"(means with a lot of colors) a couple of hours before, he lost his eye because a maid hit him with something and now the owners of this puppy said that he gets a "lots of energy" to keep him in the city...He is a year old, I already get a year old beagle named Canela(means Cinnamon)for me she is the greatest dog in the world because she is sweet, inteligent and beautiful. I try to buy a BLUE male beagle a month ago but when I saw him very skinny, without hair, full of parasites I didnīt buy it, it was a lot of money($200)and looks like the puppy was going to die...I saw his eyes and the line of his longs ears and I thought If you live you are going to be very handsome but I canīt accept you in this conditions SORRY!!! I really want another beagle...God got another dog for me and my boyfriend but I dinīt know it until know...It is going to be a great responsability but I know that he is going to be very happy with me, my boyfriend, Canela and my mother dogs Chica and Rocky(they go with us to walk every day to the beach)...Is sad watch how people donīt take care of the dogs, I hope that Pinto gets a happy life now and on... Thank you! Carolina Jaco Beach, Costa Rica

anonymous Monday, March 28th 2005 - 12:46:02 AM anonymous I came across your site today and could not help telling how sorry I was to read about Bailey. Our family has two weimaraners who were bred by Herman & Bonnie Schindler. They have both had considerable heath problems, including, hip dysplasia, severe allergies, mast cell tumor, various infections and gastro problems. And while the vet bills have been unbelievable, the real heartache is watching these two fantastic dogs (who we adore) suffer. Do you have any info on the Schindlers? I can not even obtain a correct address for them and I have been trying for 5 yrs. P.S. Our two weimaraners are Smity (male) age 5 yrs. and Madeline (female) age 7 yrs. and we live in Illinois.

Michael Wednesday, March 23rd 2005 - 01:22:38 AM nursemike2002@yahoo.com http://nursemike2002@yahoo.com HI. Wow, what a quick response.. I didn't mean to toot my own horn, but let the record show that its hard to find trained staff to teach in the area that "we " educators do. This kid that I am with, when I started working with him, he have had others work with him who were not trained. Then, the school district in their own stupid wisdom, dicided that since I was new, it would be okay to bump me and put somebody who was higher than me to work with the kid. Then, that person decides to only show up 40 % of the time, and screw the kid up even more. SO, alot of my sweat was wasted. Then this person decides to transfer. Now that I am back, As I said, I am making much positive results. And, I am excited about it, I got the kid into a first grade math book, and the kids mom is happy. Everybodies happy. I guess I take my job serious. If I don't, who will? As a fellow educator, any advice that you can give me would be greatly appreciaited . Again, thank you for taking the time to respond to me.... P.S. enjoyed the photos..... educationally yours, Michael.......

Michael Tanner Tuesday, March 22nd 2005 - 09:26:43 PM nursemike2002@yahoo.com Greatings.. I work in the area of special education. I work with a child with autism.. I have been with him for a year and have had great success. His outburst have gone from 3-4 a day to maybe 1-2 a month.. He has learned that I don't react to neg behavior. In addition, I have found that because he fixates on one activity, I tend to let him do his activity, and I throw in a lesson, or two.. For example, instead of redirecting from snack time when snack time is over, I allow him to continue, and I do math with him using his crackers to count wth..Super kid, super teacher....... Tim Welsh Saturday, February 26th 2005 - 03:53:30 PM twels1@yahoo.com Just lost in the sea of information and overwhelmed. My seven year old son Tanner is non-verbal autistic. I am praying with all this new attention from national media that new support will surface. I have searched and asked for help for the last seven years and through four states ( KS, WY,MN,and IL) to no avail. I am sure that the stress led to my heart attack at 38. We sold everything and moved back to family/church in IL. They told me I made too much money to get help... So I am trying the other side... Now I find out that there really is little help out there... My question is where is all the money going?
