| Comments: | i was born on my grandparents homeplace on top of pine mountain may7,1950.my grandparents names were h.l.saylor and alice (caldwell)saylor.my parents names was homer saylor and elizabeth (simpson)saylor.my other grandparents also from wallins creek,ky were dewey simpson and jose simpson.on my dad,s side he had brothers harold,hubert,harvey and harrison he's sisters were jennete,goldie,oma and nanny.on my mother's side she had one brother jim simpson three sisters sabory,kathern(sic)and dorthy.my dad was caught moonshining at his still on the mountain he was given three years but put on probation as part of his probation he had to relocate to louisville and get a job we left in1953 in the mean while two more of my brothers was born in harlan we came to louisville and have been here since.while in louisville i had five more brothers and one sister born.i vist harlan every chance i get it is so beatiful there and the mountains are still in my blood. |

| Comments: | This is an awsome site! My father and family were born and grew up in Harlan,Ky. His name was Philip R. Laws born July 17,1943 and passed away Oct 12, 2003. I have been there several times in years passed. It is a beautiful place. My grandfather was involved in the coal mine wars, pro union! My grandfather was Frank Laws and my grandmother Bessie Clem. My uncle still lives in Laurel,Ky I believe. He is Lee Laws and has three sons, my cousins of course. Any more info to be had on my family that you can guide me to? My dad played basketball at Harlan High, about 1958-1961. Marine Corp. honorable discharge and Staff Sargent. Thanks for this site, it helps to fill some of the emptiness left.

| Comments: | My grandfather Camillo Favaro was killed in 1956 in a coal mine. My family still has property there along side one of your hills :). The land, where my family/father was born and raised, is being seized by the state for a highway!! They are taking the top of the mountain and leaving us with landlocked land and without an easement to the highway or any other road :(.
