Comments:Hi Sue

I dont know if you remember me. We worked together at that department on Chester Business Park. Oh happy days!

Who would have thought that one quiet person who only ever wanted to work in that department would one day bring the whole thing down!

At the end they were more scared of me than Pam! Even the one you worked for. He admitted to Janet it was the worst mistake of his career.

I got no satisfaction out of it, I only felt sad that he didn't realise how important his staff were until it was too late.

Did you know Ian died of Cancer in October 2004 after a 3 year battle, he just would give in. He was so brave. How can you compete with a male version of Princess Diana? Ian could do no wrong in anyone's eyes but you have to live with someone to know them Sue. No one (not even Jamie and Lee) will know how he hurt me so much and let me down. Towards the end I think he knew it and realised if he had put me first before anyone else I'd have been so happy.

After all I've been through I don't trust anyone anymore, I still like people I just can't afford to trust anyone.

I keep Hoole Online on my favourite file because I'm so pleased to see all the hard work you've put into the site.

I have a passion for all technology I just don't have the time to learn more than I want to.

After I bought a new Vista Laptop Jamie, my eldest son was so impressed he built his own. I asked him how he got on and he said it was a bit tricky and thats why it took him 3 days to build it!

Everyone used to joke about me working to keep Jamie at University but I got my reward when I watched him pick up his degree in Applicable Mathmatic. Out of the whole University there was only 2 students who took the subject. I turned to Ian and said "Do you think Jamie picked the right subject if there's only 2 of them who passed?" Ian said it was a difficult subject and when his name was called out and he went to collect his degree all the other students stood up cheering and clapping. I was pleased but felt sorry for Jamie because I knew he would be hating it because he's so shy, yet has so many fiends. Just like his dad!

When I know he's coming over from Manchester I write a list of things I want to learn and Jamie has a way of explaining it so I understand.

How I wish I knew as much about technology as Jamie yet he says you never get to the point where you know everything because its changing all the time so all you can do is try to keep up to date.

You and Louise are the only other people I know who are so good at computer skills.

I still keep in touch with Lou and she still has that brilliant sense of humour. I lost mine for a long time and lost touch with so many people because who wants to be around someone who is so unhappy?

I have never done anything just for me Sue, its always been for the family and little thanks I got for it.

I want a life of my own and to have fun but I don't know how, I've never thought about what I want to do. I've been so used to being told what to do and doing it.

Ian never cared about the house and I'm still doing it up ready to sell it and I dont even know the first thing about selling a house.

All I know is I want to stay in Hoole but move to somewhere smaller because since 2004 I wake up every day thinking "what do I have to do today?" Not "What do I want to do today."

Ian had so many friends yet not one of them have helped me and they were the very ones he helped all of his working life while I was working and looking after the house and children.

I was so bitter for a while and realised I had to do it all on my own and was looking after Ian's mum as well. Eunice died in January and while I was still trying to come to terms with losing the mum I had always wanted Ian's sister is so logical and practical she had the house up for sale and sold it within weeks of Eunice dying in January.

She's a kind person but doesn't let emotions get in the way of things and thats always been my problem.

Too busy thinking and worrying about everyone else.

I think I have every right to be a bit selfish now but I know I cant do anything until I sell this house.

Every time I get someone in to do a job I have to get someone else in to repair the damage they've caused!

I know the last job will be the garden because its no use spending money on it until the sign goes up.

Take care Sue I know I don't have to wish you luck, your the kind of person who makes her own luck by going out and making things happen.

Ann

Comments:Below is a letter I sent to the local press regarding the Hoole Bridge works and what the community could get from them. Past experience has shown that many letters are either not printed or are monkeyed about with so I'm bunging it on here just in case!

"Lots and lots of money is being spent doing up the station surroundings and soon lots more for strengthening the bridge so 44-tonne juggernauts will be able to thunder across it.

But not a single penny to make the thing safer and more pleasant for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists! The three-month closure (and probably longer, judging by the St. Martin's Way performance) will doubtlessly create all manner of problems for the community but it would be nice if at least we came out of it with some genuine benefits. The closure surely presents the golden opportunity to install outriggers to each side of the bridge for non-motorised users. The old pavements could then be removed, making it safer for drivers too.

Many readers will remember the old pedestrian access to the station. This should surely be opened up again too. This was closed some decades ago for 'safety' reasons and its entrance bricked up. You can still see it on the left as you approach from Hoole. It formerly gave access to a bridge that gave direct access to the platforms.

Hoole Road Bridge is without doubt the most dangerous and unpleasant place in Chester for those on two wheels or two legs and seemingly they've yet again been failed by planners, councillors and transport companies.
For example, that longterm supporter of the ill-fated CDTS Guided Busway, County Councillor Peter Byrne- Labour Chief Whip and spokesman on transport matters- is quoted in the Standard as saying, "I did enquire about the possibility of doing other work on the bridge to have it widened and having better access for pedestrians. Unfortunately it's expensive to do and not financially possible".

Is that it then, Cllr Byrne, you're content to accept what you're told and not try to do something about it? In Chester, it seems, a price has been set on people's safety. When a cyclist or pedestrian is killed on Hoole Bridge, and they surely will be- the familiar sight of demolished walls, fences and the like where drivers have lost control assures us of that- who will be take the blame?

I, for one, will be there to remind you all of your pathetic failure to get your collective fingers out and apply some joined-up planning, just for once.

Lest we forget- Cllr Byrne's thoughts on cyclist and pedestrian safety when enthusing in the Chester press about the 'guided busway':

¥ "Cyclists will have their own dedicated track, as will walkers, and they will not be constantly fighting with other vehicles for their road space".

¥ "an opportunity to create a city that is not choked with fumes and threatening to pedestrians, especially child pedestrians".

¥ "Bus lanes, traffic priorities at lights, encouragement of walking and cycling, traffic calming, safe routes to school, all these will in a short time be transforming the way we look at our traffic problems".

¥ "It would help us do more for pedestrians and cyclists and reduce congestion. It would offer a swift, clean and pleasant route into the city, not only for residents, commuters and visitors but cyclists and walkers too."

So if these things were good for CDTS, why not for Hoole Bridge?

No plans are apparently in place, either, to restore the appearance of the bridge- cleaning and repairing the stone, replacing the lamps and the like.
Remember the fuss a few months ago when the building supplies company on the bridge wanted to have a yellow sign? The councill objected because it would "detract from the appearance of the Conservation Area".

Also upon the subject of the station restoration, have you noticed that all of the area's splendid Victorian lamp standards- former gas lights- have now been ripped out and replaced by mundane 'modern' designs, totally unsuited to their 'heritage' surroundings?

Was a good buyer found for them?

We have started an online petition to demand a temporary footbridge for those on foot, because otherwise pedestrians will be forced into taking detours of at least a mile and half. Please sign!

And pass the link on to every other Cestrian you know!

I hope someone can help.

I am looking for an old road map of Hoole that shows Griffiths Terrace. My GG Grandparents live at 10 Griffiths Terrace.

I know it's been knocked down and rebuilt, but I don't know when.

Does anyone know where Griffiths Terrace was and where I can get an old map that shows its location.

Thanks,

Comments:Hi, I've lived in Hoole for just under two years now and I have to say, having lived in a lot of places, its a great place with alot of character. I think alot more could be made of this website, for people to buy and swap things etc, people to lend a hand and help eachother out and for people to air their views e.g. the proposed tennis courts on hoole allotments, and the fact that there's so much litter. Is there anyway a small leaflet could be sent to each house in Hoole to tell them about the website? I'd help with delivery. I didn't even know about it till now and i'm guessing there're alot of Hoole people who still don't know!
Incidently, I'm looking for two tennis rackets, willing to pay £5-10, please email me, Fran
