I think the reason why we take so long is because we don't work hard enough. One of us is always surfing while the other person works" Bernie: "Doh! We forgot to include the voltage divider in our PSPICE simulation after we've plotted and labelled everything." Scott: "ohhh... It's okay, we'll just add it to the netlist, no one would know... well except anybody that's reading this" Scott: Hmm.. just so you have some background knowledge on what we're talking about, i'll give you a Crash course on designing a Bipolar Junction Transistor Amplifier. Here's the problem. Given a BJT with a nominal beta of 100, design a bias network for maximum collector-emitter voltage swing and a DC emitter current of 1mA. We have to design a coupling/bypass network around this basic cell design for a common-emitter amplifier with Rin > 2kohm, Rout < 5kohm, and Av=-100 for a 10kohm load and 50ohm signal source over a frequency range of 100Hz to 100kHz. In the lab we had this morning, we just built the circuit, measured its DC operating point (collector-emitter voltage and emitter current), its maximum undistorted (less than 5% difference in positive and negative swing of the output sinusoid) output swing at 10kHz, and its small-signal frequency response. Now we're sitting here in this lab designing the models we used for the signal generator, oscilloscope, resistor, capacitor and BJT. Yay.. bernie just simulated the circuit's large-signal response at 10kHz and small-signal frequency response response. I just finished the hand analysis, measured results, and simulation results. Now we can go home. Yay =) Scott and Bernie =) |
