Since its release, more than 10,000 copies have been sold and the book has been nominated by the publisher for the 2008 Hurston-Wright Legacy Award for debut fiction. Also, the book is in the process of being turned into a stage play by Malik Yoba (New York Undercover, Girlfriends, etc.). He read it, liked the concept and we have been in discussions over the past several weeks. So far, all looks very positive! |

| Comments: | Coincidence is a thought provoking good old fashioned who done it written in urban style with believable characters and more secrets than a church picnic. It's an exciting read that forces you to finish because of the fast paced action and twisting story lines.
After reading "The Maintenance Man" some years ago inspired me to begin writing but 2 years of writers block forced me to become serious about the art and my characters inspired me to finish it. I published "Coincidence" under my publishing company Big Bone Publishing in June of 2007 to a great response. So good a response, that I have begun working on a sequel titled "Comeuppance," which is do out in 2008. Thanks a million... Shon |

| Comments: | Hi,
I wanted to share an incredible black writer with your book club. David M Humphrey Sr writer of Dark Things -lift every voice, has done it again! My Secret Heart by Samishii Suzume (a.k.a. David M Humphrey Sr). INCREDIBLE! (MY REVIEW of) My Secret Heart by Samishii Suzume If music soothes the sage beast, then what's to said of poetry?! What do you give someone you love? How do you express exactly what a friendship means to you? Put yourself out there, Samishii Suzume author of "My Secret Heart" has. Samishii Suzume's poems penned years ago were then, like fine wine, ripened over time. My Secret Heart is an incredible collection of Samishii's heart. Poetry for every situation, it's for any and everyone. Not since the classics have I read such marvelous poetry. Here, I have found perfect symmetry of the heart... such strength. My Secret Heart 's expertly written poems can inspire anyone to boldly share a bit of their own secret heart. Every card you've ever given still pales in comparison to this masterpiece. What is your heart trying to say? Everything you need to express is right here! This truly is a perfect gift for every occasion. My Secret Heart dares to touch your very core. Dare to read this incredible collection of motion in poetry. Dare to share with the ones you care for, love or have loved and lost. Dare to delve into the MY SECRET HEART. My Secret Heart by Samishii Suzume a must have, a must share.... A MUST! BACK OF THE BOOK...... When one is truly in love, he does not speak merely from his mind-- no matter how clever a thinker he maybe... One does not speak merely from the lips-- no matter how eloquent a speaker he may be regarded... When one is truly in love, we find that he never speaks from the mere surface of his soul, but from the very depths of his heart... What you hold in your hands is not merely a 'book'. What you hold in your hands is the innermost part of a man in love. What you hold in your hands is the deepest part os a soul, drawn from the most earth-shaking time in a man's life. The time when a man bares all, gives all, and dares all-- for love. You hold in your hands the most intimate part of himself that a man can share with a woman. You hold, My Secret Heart... ______________________________ Samishii Suzume as the saying goes, is at once a mystery wrapped in an enigma... This is his first book of poetry compelled and drawn from poems written over many, many years beginning when he was a teenager. Poetry for him is an extremely personal thing and-- arranged into four 'Halls', like those of a great mansion--he hopes that this window on his heart will be a blessing to others in love... The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Bertrand E. Brown Now Available Online at Barnes & Nobles andAmazon.com!!! Sylvia Stanton has to wonder why every other man on campus can appreciate her except for that sorry, no good Chad. After a bad decision on Sylvia's part, Chad is intent on making her pay for her indiscretion. Will Chad's actions on that traumatizing night pave the way for all of Sylvia's future relationships? They're all the same. The Chads, the Peters, the Williams and now there's Terrance. Sylvia is looking for a man that has some of the same qualities as her father. She isn't looking for drop-dead good looks or money. All she needs to be happy is a good, strong man who is intelligent, who will love her for the woman she is, and with whom she can grow old. After all, there are women who don't have half the charm and good looks that she has, and they're walking around arm in arm with some beautiful brothers. At least that's the way it seems on the outside looking in. Sylvia would do anything to keep a man happy and satisfied. Yet here she is stuck in Atlanta, still wishing and hoping. Will she ever find Mr. Right? THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER BY BERTRAND E. BROWN Posted on: 5/29/06 at 1:48pm BET'S Dante Feenix says The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is without a shadow of a doubt the hottest, sexiest, steamiest book of the year...Applause to Mr. Brown on his first effort...BRAVO!!! The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is the fast paced story of one woman in search of happiness and despite a successful professional life her social life is often a disaster about to happen...It'll make you laugh. What Are The Readers Saying? "A SURPRISIGLY GOOD READ!!", June 28, 2006 Reviewer: Syleena Harrington "Candy" (Dallas, Texas) - See all my reviews Funny thing but there's another book out by the same name and I actually thought I was ordering the other one and although initially I was somewhat disappointed once I read the first couple of pages I really couldn't put it down. I've never heard of this author before but he tells an excellent story and really has his finger on the pulse of what women go through. The book is fast-paced, taking you over bumps and bruises at breakneck speed and hits some curves that may cause you to take a cold shower or two. Oh yeah, it gets kind of hot and steamy in places!! But I must say that overall it has got to be one of the best books I've read this year despite the ending. Still, I'm betting there's going to be a sequel. And this tiime there will be no mistake about what I order. This guy can write!!! Highly recommend it! --This text refers to the Paperback edition Best Novel of the Year, May 16, 2006 Reviewer: Curtis Jackson "CB" (Chapel Hill, NC) - See all my reviews This book is an extraordinary book. It has all of the elements of Zane, Eric Jerome Dickey, and Sista Souljah. It brings all of these romantic elements together to produce a complete and outstanding novel. "In The Midst of Passion” (Romantic Suspense/Dafina Books, August 2006) AND “A Lover’s Pretense” (Sequel to “A Lover’s Dream” Kimani Romance, August 2006) “In The Midst of Passion”…. Battling the demons from his past as a contract killer hasn’t been easy, but Alexander Rice is doing his best to triumph. The tall, honey-toned god with the uncommon turquoise stare focuses his energies on tending his duties as publisher of a prominent Charlotte, NC paper. Still, the memories and remorse from his more brutal days continue to haunt him. Alex fears the ghosts will never give him back his life. Then one evening, he meets Topaz Emerson on a deserted country road and light dawns. Topaz strikes something within the brooding seven foot male. Alex is drawn to her unlike anything or anyone before. Of course he can never entertain a future with the beautiful mechanic. The ghosts have rendered him almost incapable of suppressing his violent tendencies. For Topaz however, Alex is willing to fight. The desire to let go of the anger in his soul begins to overpower his being. But when a force from his past rears its ugly head, Topaz is threatened. The thing Alex has come to love most could be gone in the blink of an eye. Unless…he kills again. “A Lover’s Pretense” The Sequel to “A Lover’s Dream” Quaysar Ramsey led a love life most men could only dream of. Sadly, the women who fell to his feet and into his bed were unfulfilling substitutes for the woman he wanted most of all. Tykira Lowery had fallen in love with the gorgeous outspoken twin when they were only kids. Unfortunately, Quay’s belief that a love affair with the leggy beauty could threaten her life made any chance for a real relationship a hopeless wish. Now, at the request of Quay’s twin Quest, Tykira is back in Seattle. Working so closely, becomes a trying feat in more ways than one. With Sera Black’s murderer still running free and more unsettling facts about her death resurfacing, Quay knew Tykira’s safety had to be his top priority. She was off limits. However, his desire for her would make obeying that order an impossible task. Join in on the second installment of the Ramsey saga which follows Quest and Michaela as they settle into married life and all the changes that life will bring. Discover the man who will intrigue Contessa Warren and, of course, follow Quaysar and Tykira’s intense, roller coaster relationship. We’ll also delve more deeply into the mystery that’s haunted the family for almost 2 decades. Sera Black’s killer will be captured and you will be stunned. Inside Note: This title will also be available for pre-order on www.eharlequin.com Both titles available for pre-order on amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com. |

I am sending this e-mail hoping you will circulate it among your book group. For a few years I have been sending out an e-mail called “the paragraph of the day,” providing examples of fine prose from a variety of sources: novels, letters, histories, periodicals. The e-mails are sent free. Despite its name, tpotd is only issued on weekdays. There is also a website, www.tpotd.net, that provides an archive. While many paragraphs are from well-known writers (Jane Austen, Mark Twain, Zora Neale Hurston, e.g.), I make a special effort to send paragraphs from books that used to be widely-read but are not seen so often now, and from contemporary books and articles that might have been missed. For example: J. | Comments: | I just read this novel entitiled "LOOKING FOR THE SILVER SPOON" by Emily Means-Willis and it was one of the best books that I have read lately. It surrounds an African-America Chicago family with ups and downs but more ups than downs. I definitely recommend Black women especially to read it today so that they can gain insight on lots of problems that are in our lives. |

| Comments: | Upcoming "That's What You Get For Running With Scissors"
THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR RUNNING WITH SCISSORS are absolutely, truly fabricated distortions of choices women can make in relationships with other people (PARTICULARLY MEN). At times, WE, the People (WOMEN), in order to form a more perfect union of love, create the idea of what WE (WOMEN) want because of the potential WE (WOMEN) think we see. In fact, the whole purpose of this book is to make you laugh at how truly fabulous our (WOMEN) imaginations can go. I mean really, do WE (WOMEN) think that WE (WOMEN) can change people? The only thing WE (WOMEN) can change is our underwear and some people (NASTY WOMEN) don't like doing that. WE (WOMEN) adapt to situations but it does not change who WE (WOMEN) really are. The women in each story are people that can be recognized. Either you are one of the women or you know someone like one of the women. These women are NOT, I repeat, NOT VICTIMS. They are just people who are not totally in touch with reality due to temporary insanity caused by some outside entity that creates the illusion of love. There is no MALE BASHING in this book. All the men in the book presented themselves with honesty. They give each woman an opportunity to make mindful choices about how totally jacked up they are. (was that a male bash? NO!) Driven by lust and control, each woman forgets the advice given by our mothers and grandmothers that you CAN really get hurt by running with scissors. Applied to real life situations and see the warning signs. And if you still decide to run with scissors, well, then that's what you get! |

But when her family learns that Chance was born to a mother with a severe mental illness, they are determined that Patrice will not taint their bloodline with the likeness of his family’s defective genes. | Comments: | Hi ,
I'm Paulette and I just wanted to suggest you take a look at an incredible new black writer and his novel. I loved it so much that I submitted a review on amazon.com. I'm so proud to be a black woman. The majority of his characters are black and they're portrayed in a positive light. It's so different from other books I've read (where black people are often stereo typed). I firmly believe that Mr David M Humphreys Sr will become a house hold name. I also believe that this man and his novel should be reviewed by your magazine. He is a positive role model to all people, but most of all, blacks (Canadian and American.... also world- wide). I have already given a young black girl his novel, she wants to be a writer. Daniel didn't think there were any black writers out there, now she knows different! Dark Things is an awesome candidate for your book club. I know your readers will enjoy this book.I also know that they wont be able to put it down. I've included the review that I submitted to amazon.com on Dark Things. Please read it and if it intrigues you even a little.... then you need to read this book. He's the next Grisham only BETTER! BOOK REVIEW Dark Things - David M. Humphrey Sr. There are novels that, when you pick them up you can put them down. Where the intention of perusing a few pages before bed is the goal, NOT in this case.... DARK THINGS is a treat of true delightful excitement and pure adrenaline. From the moment you begin, you are thrown into the very thick of chaos. A whirlwind of drama and mayhem surround you as you learn of the characters plight and names. What seems like a quick intro, is merely a formality... for as the story quickly unfolds your feeling of angst grows. This is a story unlike any other. It's characters? Humans ... Celestial Angels... Dark things, and the plot, this combination makes for the best incredible read you will ever have! This is not a book you put down ...UNTIL YOU'RE FINISHED... otherwise you will annoyingly find that, "life" just gets in the way. Many times I found that I couldn't stop reading and when I did... my mind was reeling. Sleep wasn't important, finding out what happened to the characters was. I was right there.... in the operating room as Virginia barely clung to life, there when Mahatiel was attacked... there when the dark things plotted to steal what didn't belong to them... there as they devoured souls in there path..... there.. NO! It wont do for you to just read the review. This is a novel that has to be read to gain the FULL understanding of what I mean. It's hard to believe that such an piece of work is the first for David M. Humphrey Sr. The images and clarity of this work of literary art mandates it be read. I honestly believe that this only the first of many novels to come. In excited anticipation I eagerly await the next installment. As a voracious reader, I have to say that this is a book that all who read will enjoy. DARK THINGS will make an incredible movie. It has everything to captivate an audience and MORE! The word is spreading about DARK THINGS. This is definitely one for your book club(s). So if you've found that your book club is a little drab... in need of some life... this the book. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Get it amazon.com Got it? GOOD! Contact the author at www.thewarriorsagenda.com Thank you for you time. paulette w. |

THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER BY BERTRAND E. BROWN SEXY, STEAMY, SCORCHING!! "A SURPRISIGLY GOOD READ!!", December 1, 2005 Reviewer: Syleena Harrington "Candy" (Dallas, Texas) - See all my reviews Funny thing but there's another book out by the same name and I actually thought I was ordering the other one and although initially I was somewhat disappointed once I read the first couple of pages I really couldn't put it down. I've never heard of this author before but he tells an excellent story and really has his finger on the pulse of what women go through. The book is fast-paced, taking you over bumps and bruises at breakneck speed and hits some curves that may cause you to take a cold shower or two. Oh yeah, it gets kind of hot and racy in places!! But I must say that overall it has got to be one of the best books I've read this year despite the ending. Still, I'm betting there's going to be a sequel. And this tiime there will be no mistake about what I order. This guy can write!!! Highly recommend it! Was this review helpful to you? (Report this) BEST BLACK NOVEL OF 2005!!! November 8, 2005 Reviewer: Curtis Jackson "CB" (Chapel Hill, NC) - See all my reviews This book is an extraordinary book. It has all of the elements of Zane, Eric Jerome Dickey, and Sista Souljah. It brings all of these romantic elements together to produce a complete and outstanding novel. If you dont have it already its a must-buy!! Was this review helpful to you? (Report this) A good rainy day read... November 21, 2005 Reviewer: Been There "B.T. | Comments: | Congratuation! What a wonderful website this is! We at mylovegarden.com look for websites that are wholesome and designed for adults. The Literary Club forms a network that does just that, and then some. Relationships form and we get the opportunity to learn about some talented Black authors. They are selling books, and I see it as a "win win" situation.
A website that is adult oriented, yet not offensive is vastly welcomed! The Literary Club has accomplished that. Lots of thought processing..not easy. Mylovegarden.com has come up with a simular solution of its own. Senuality in good taste. Classy, yet provocative! Whether you just want to look exciting in our sexy garments, play with a lover, or make someone's wish come true. Check us out... |

ISBN/UPC: ISBN 1-4116-3047-5 Sexy, funny, and thought provoking, these stories are from the male point of view -- but women will enjoy the stories as well. Scenarios run the gamut from committed, taboo, to unconventional trysts with strangers. You’ll meet a consultant who spends the night in one of Memphis’s more notorious strip clubs in “Ebony Lace”. You’ll witness the battle of the sexes when a woman decides to withhold sex from her man and you see who breaks down first in “Face Off”. Read the hilarious Bad Dick Report from a woman who thought a man she met was the shit but found that he wasn’t in “False Pretenses”. You’ll discover what hyper sexual males do when they wake up one morning and decide that one woman will not be enough in “The Urge”. Euftis gives his readers the best time they will ever have between the pages of a book. AUTHOR/PERFORMER BIO: Euftis Emery’s writing has captivated a number of underground fans on the internet. His first volume of short stories, Off the Chain, is as hot as it is controversial. Euftis resides in Cincinnati, Ohio. REVIEW: ABSOLUTELY SIZZZZZLING!!!, July 5, 2005 Reviewer: Dana Y. Bowles "DYB" (NewCastle, DE USA) - See all my reviews This collection of short stories are nothing short of flammable...well-written, funny, and hothothot, fans of erotica will love them all. The constant throughout is Euftis himself, leaving the reader no doubts as to his willingness to explore all things physical....women will love this peek into the mind of a man, in stories told with such wild sexual abandon..... Fans of the sexy pen, watch out....Euftis Emery is threatening to take the heavy breathing to a whole other level. Read with a lover close by........ DYB EXCERPT: This book represents a metamorphosis for me. A metamorphosis of sexual transformation. I have always been a freak. However, my sexuality has always been repressed. Repressed by parents, friends, and lovers. I am no longer repressed. I am no longer bound. This book contains short stories along the lines of Zanes - Sex Chronicles I and II but told from a male perspective. The stories are based on my life and those of my friends. The stories described in this book are outside of the norm, taboo, off the friggin chain. Prudes, hypocrites, the inhibited, and saved folks need not pick up this book. You will be offended. This book does not follow a chronological order. I skip around quite a bit. You can read the stories individually or you can attempt to put the jig saw pieces together and read the stories in chronological order. Read the book however you wish. I hope that you enjoy it. HOT OFF THE PRESS OCTOBER 1ST!!! The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Bertrand Brown The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is a marvelous and captivating tale of a single black female caught up in the hunt to find a good man. Written in the same high octane vein as Terry McMillan’s, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter moves at breakneck speed weaving in and out of relationships as it embarks on a tumultuous journey that takes the reader on a roller coaster ride from start to finish and leaves them yearning for more. A tale of a single woman’s quest to find happiness and security with a good strong brother, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter often leads our heroine, Sylvia Stanton confronting many of the problems too many encounter as single Black women. And yet our heroine Sylvia is hardly deterred. Moving from the small town of Greensboro, North Carolina she opts to try her luck in the fast-paced arena of Atlanta, Georgia where she encounters a variety of misfortunes, some humorous and others simply devastating. Will she survive in her hunt to find the only thing missing in her life—a good man—or will she fall to the sad reality that a good man is hard to find? One thing’s for sure, whatever the outcome it won’t be for lack of effort on her part. Hot and steamy, with each scintillating romance there’s enough grimy, sweaty sex to make the most sanctified to consider midnight rendezvous’ or two. BET producer, Dante Feenix calls the book the hottest, sex-filled novel since Zane’s, Afterburn, “Brilliant… A must read…” he commented. And we’re certain that you’ll agree. The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, by first time author Bertrand Brown can be found online and at all major bookstores. In the event that it is sold out it can be ordered at any bookstore using ISBN# 0-595-36178-1. |

| Comments: | Hello:
My name is Willie Wofford Jr.. I am 52 years old and live in Chicago, and I am making a unique request. I have written a love story, and while I search for a publishing company that will print my manuscript I also seek your help. I want to send a couple of chapters of my story to you to have my work critiqued. This story is my first attempt at writing a love story. I am hesitant to identify my work as a romance story, because the storyline does not fall under the definition of the typical romance story. I have written a story about a woman of strong will who does not let men run over her even though she may become victim of deceitful lovers. The title of my story is Elizabeth Rose. I am a heterosexual man, and my story reflects my sole opinion of a strong woman who refuses to let emotions dominate her when it pertains to matters of the heart. Yet Elizabeth Rose loves with her heart. My chapters are brief, and the story moves rapidly. I request permission to transmit a few chapters to you, or to a specific member of your book club, for editorial review. You can peruse a memoir I wrote that was published by a print-on-demand company. Please visit this Web address: www.publishamerica.com/books/5097 Thank you. |

| Comments: | Hi,
My new book, "Bliss," is coming out July 12. It's about a woman in the music industry, circa 1998. It's a woman's story. It's about the choices and sacrifices businesswomen make, and, importantly, it's about the music we all love. I blog (it's my official author website) over at http://nakedcartwheels.blogspot.com/ and I'm putting the word out that the book is coming, that I'd like folks to read and possibly talk about it, and that I'm into doing chats, guest-blogging, and any kind of etcetera. Following is a note from my book publicist re the content and flavor of my novel. You can contact her, Selina Cicogna, at scicogna@randomhouse.com for a copy of the book, or you can just reach out to me for anything else. Hope to hear from you, and I hope you have a chance to read and enjoy BLISS. Thanks the most, and please pass the word, Danyel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Celebrated music journalist, Danyel Smith presents roman à clef of the music industry “Searingly honest and breathtakingly lush, Smith's masterful prose moves the reader past the music industry’s seductive bling and liberates characters that are deliciously complicated and compellingly flawed. With a passion for black music skillfully soundtracking the narrative, BLISS is the literary love song for the new millennium.” -- Joan Morgan, author, When Chickenheads Come Home to Roost “The music business can be an enchanted snake pit, but Danyel tells her heroine’s story with an insider’s knowledge, with power, and most of all, with emotion.” —Mariah Carey “For the last decade, Danyel Smith has had a front row seat for all the craziness of the record business. She knows how fly it all was, and she knows where the bodies are buried. You’ll love BLISS.” – Touré, CNN Correspondent; author, Soul City “An intimate, spellbinding tour through the infernal machinations of the music industry, Danyel Smith’s BLISS is a smart, savvy, juicy novel with the sizzle of a potboiler and heart enough to uncover the humanity behind it all.” -- Binnie Kirshenbaum, author, Hester Among the Ruins and An Almost Perfect Moment “The color and candor of hip hop is rarely transferred onto paper, and Danyel Smith’s voice is the rare, vital instrument strong enough to carry the tune. Dripping with class, mad insight, and a compelling narrative -- BLISS is all that and a bag of salt ‘n’ vinegar chips. Word up.” -- Sacha Jenkins, co-author, ego trip’s Book of Rap Lists and ego trip’s Big Book of Racism! “With the remarkable BLISS, Danyel Smith uses her palpable love and vast knowledge of music -- hip-hop, pop, and soul -- to conjure a glorious, compelling story. The artistic, economic, and sexual intrigues of the record business are all captured in the life and loves of Eva Glenn, without ever losing the backbeat that keeps us nodding our heads.” -- Alan Light, editor, The Vibe History of Hip Hop and Tupac Shakur “This perfect August novel looks back at the glorious summer of Eva’s life and the life of hip-hop, and then, with nary a sentimental shiver, turns on its well-shod toes and marches onward.” —Elle “Danyel Smith blends private and professional encounters with flair and insight for a rare look into hip-hop’s inner sanctum.” —Essence June 2005 Dear Editor- Bliss (Crown Publishers, July 19, 2005) is a sensual tale drenched with love and music, and author Danyel Smith (a prose stylist who “writes with music in her language” [Quincy Jones]), dives into an intriguing set of characters facing life-changing choices in the swirl of the music industry at its decadent peak. At a 1998 gathering on the Bahamas’ Paradise Island, record exec Eva Glenn—soulful, powerful, and maybe pregnant—is throwing a comeback showcase for her singing sensation Sunny Addison. At the event’s peak, Eva begins to sink beneath the waves of a confusing sexual triangle, a career at a crossroads, fading self-confidence, and decisions to be made about her possible pregnancy. She decides to flee Paradise for the pastoral out island of Cat, and what begins as an idyllic break turns into an intense sojourn that brings Eva to terms with the crises closing in on her. Smith casts a cold eye on the machinations of the industry, and infuses Bliss with an unashamed passion for the power of pop. Her language echoes everything from blues shouts and hip-hop to the transcendent joy of a perfect R&B love song. This novel is about the rhythm and blues of life, and why we hold tight to the sex and music and love that offer us a fleeting glimpse of bliss, even when the price is steep. A respected source on the music industry, Danyel Smith is the former editor-in-chief of Vibe, had a stint as a prestigious editor-at-large at Time Inc., and has contributed to the New York Times, Rolling Stone, the New Yorker, Spin, Essence, Elle, Cosmopolitan, USA Weekend, the Village Voice, and Billboard. A regular commentator for VH-1, Smith is the author of the San Francisco Chronicle-bestselling novel, More Like Wrestling (Crown, 2003), and she wrote the introduction for the New York Times-bestseller Tupac Shakur. Smith led coverage of hip-hop’s takeover of American culture, and she’s always wanted to uncover its personalities in a way one rarely can journalistically. Smith distinguished herself in a male-dominated industry, and remains fascinated by the idiosyncratic sacrifices made by businesswomen, as well as by the interconnectedness of pop music. In an interview, Smith can address the following pop-cultural issues: Why music still matters How hip-hop effects listeners and the choices they make about their bodies The histories of hip-hop and soul music The short wild history of hip hop journalism Interracial relationships Women’s choices as they relate to career, marriage, and family Sex and the single woman The writing life, and the transition from journalism to fiction The blogging phenomenon/revolution To learn more about BLISS and More Like Wrestling, visit Danyel Smith’s blog at http://nakedcartwheels.blogspot.com. | Comments: | ATTENTION BLACK GAY LITERATURE LOVERS!!!
Brent Dorian Carpenter, one of, if not the, hottest, most provocative black gay writers on the world stage today, proudly simultaneously releases his 3rd and 4th stunning books—Bald Ambition and The 21st Century Chronicles of Thugg the Barbarian King! Free sample chapters and autographed copies are now available online at the author’s website—http://www.bdcbooks.com—where a universe of bipolar madness awaits you! Says Brent: Thugg is a bisexual ghetto love story with a sci-fi twist! It involves a resurrected 12,000-year old African monarch who is found perfectly preserved in the ice atop Mt. Kilimanjaro, and his 21st Century African American acclimation professors—psychologist Dr. Quantez Phillips and linguistics expert Dr. Ruth Haynes! It brutally examines our culture of racism, sexism, homophobia, guns, drugs, paparazzi and prisons, as seen through the eyes of an original Black Man with no reference point to anything we call reality! Baby, it’s a bipolar rollercoaster ride on crack and steroids! And about Bald Ambition: Originally published in Michigan’s Between The Lines newspaper, BA is an uncensored, hard-hitting collection of 75 award-winning, not to mention outrageous, hilarious, thought-provoking and poignant Brent Reloaded columns chronicling my triumphs and tragedies as a black, gay, HIV-positive, bipolar, broke-ass writer—including 7 too naughty to print in the paper! Also, 40 short bios and beautifully rendered drawings of black gay historical figures such as Barbara Jordan, Bayard Rustin, Lorraine Hansberry, RuPaul and George Washington Carver! And Verse Perverse, 5 wickedly depraved short sex fantasies! And much more! All delivered with my notorious bare-knuckle writing style! Carpenter is the author of the groundbreaking novels Man of the Cloth—about a Vatican cardinal and a geneticist’s plot to create a clone of Jesus Christ from the bloodstains on the Shroud of Turin—and This Time Around, about a black gay college student who discovers a way of traveling through time and goes back to the 1400s to attempt to stop slavery before it begins! As a Detroit-based black, gay, HIV+, bipolar self-published novelist, newspaper columnist and journalist, activist and 15-year AIDS survivor (three unsuccessful HIV deathbed assassination attempts!), Carpenter is emerging as a fresh, urban gay voice—a writer with the guts to tell the stories most others wouldn’t dare! | Comments: | Dear Readers,
I'm a Delaware, United States based author. And I wish to introduce my new literary novel. Book: The Price of a Reckless Past Author: Femi Olawole. ISBN: 1-4137-1506-0. Synopsis: Already noted for its provocative originality as a modern African literature, this book, in a nutshell, is the story of four young men who did not know the difference between having fun and living recklessly. Unfortunately for them, the ignorance came with huge price tags such as sexually transmitted diseases, self-inflicted infertility, unwanted pregnancy, broken hearts and other physical and emotional scars. It’s pertinent to state here that this is a three-dimensional book. It’s an educational tool, an entertainment material and a grand excursion into the cultures, the traditions and the orientations of an African society. | Comments: | Hello:
My name is Willie Wofford Jr. I am 52 years old and live in Chicago. I have forwarded this message to you to promote the release of my memoir, Notes on Uncle and Me, My Amazing Friend, and to seek your review of my work. The story chronicles a unique relationship I had from January to August of 1977 with an 82-year-old man who owned and operated a shoeshine stand in Phoenix, Arizona. I fondly called him Uncle and he addressed me as Nephew. We were not biologically related. What you will find to be amazing about the story is the way it explores such subjects as male-female relationships, religion, issues of manipulation and other points of interest; all told through Uncle and other characters. You also will be amazed to know that 25 years passed before I finally took the time to write the story. Most of the story was written from memory. However, I recorded conversations with Uncle while I lived in Phoenix in 1977, and I kept the cassette tapes that contained those conversations in storage for 25 years until I began to pen this remarkable story. A number of the experiences I recalled in the story may sound farfetched, but I pledge that my memoir was written as accurately as I remembered. Some of the material may not be suitable for young children. I was 24 years old when I met Uncle. He had a girlfriend who was my age, although his relationship with her was questionable at best. Uncle never made excuses for himself, and through dogged efforts he seldom, if ever, let obstacles stop him from reaching his goals. He motivated me to raise the bar, and he motivated everyone who knew him. I humbly ask you to consider the purchase of my memoir. A complimentary copy may be obtained by certain individuals and groups by writing to: support@publishamerica.com. My memoir can be purchased for $16.95 (plus $3 for shipping and handling) by sending a check or a money order to PublishAmerica, PO Box 151, Frederick, MD, 21705. It can be ordered on-line at www.publishamerica.com/books/5097. It also can be ordered on-line at www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com. I sincerely appreciate your support. You can contact me at home by calling 312-791-0232 or by E-mail at wlwjr13@sbcglobal.net. Thank you. |
