Jack is 4 and weighs @ 16 lbs. This frightened us at first, because we were told by the breeder-which we will never recommend to anyone!-that they would be @ 5-7 lbs. Wrong! Jacks paws were very large when we picked him up at 8 wks. He also came with hip dysplasia. We couldn't keep him at the breeder, we had to take him home and care for him. Thank you for stating that some Poms can weigh more than average. Every time I read this, I feel better. I don't feel like we are mistreating them. We always felt they were bred larger. Unfortunately, these people go for the money, not the benefit of the animals themselves. The breeder is no longer in business-thankfully! Your site is very informative, and if necessary, perhaps we will travel back to MO (Our daughter in law schooled at Evangel University)for a visit. We would thoroughly enjoy it. I have been a homestead fanatic since 1985 when I moved to my first homestead, a 14 X 70 foot mobile home on 14 acres in Vermont. Since then, I have ended up in Colorado but have managed to raise my children with the same concept that you mentioned, ie, that we should know how to do for ourselves as our ancesters did and not rely on the world system. We have always had our garden and our dairy goats, rabbits, pigs, chickens, sometimes cows and horses. Right now I am raising dogs for income. We have Jack Russell Terriers, Mini Dachshunds and Corgies. My husband retires next year and we have been thinking of moving to Missouri. We are really looking at the area south of highway 40 and east of you. Around Licking or Salem. The male was the son of a buff female and a blue roan male. The breeder told me that the blue roan carries the gene for blue eyes. Have you had any experience with the blue or diluted eyes? I am looking for another choc/white or choc roan male with blue eyes. My research so far says they come from the merle coloring, but I know Moxie's dad was a blue roan. I would appreciate any info. you have on this and if you have thrown any blue eyed pups. Thanks a lot. Your cockers are pretty.
