Comments:I'm so impressed with your website! I just bought 5 acres of raw wooded land with a creek and hills on it! It has been so much fun clearing a camp area and cooking with my 12" dutch oven over the fire and making camp coffee! I made rock steps up the creek bank and we are clearing a circle drive and the idea for the hummingbird garden is one of the first things I want to plant along with a vegetable garden. Thanks for sharing all the wisdom you have from living the 'old way of life', which I can't wait to move onto the property. I will be visiting your site often. We also have 4 goats to help us clear the brush. I didn't know I would love them so much until we bought our first goat then I had to get more. Thanks again!

Kathy

Comments:Hi,
Hey I want to thank you for the recipe for whey ricotta! I just finished up my second batch of mozzarella, and went searching for a recipe that would work better than the recipe I've tried and failed at for the whey ricotta. MAN yours worked like a charm. I used balsamic vinegar and oy! It tastes way (whey?) better than the last batch!
Thanks much from San Francisco Bay Area...where I'm homesteading my local patch of land, and buying local when and wherever possible.
Best,
Kelly

I am 13 years old living in a homeschool christian family, and I am interested in milk goats. I have been doing some research about them. I found your website in looking up goats milk recipes. If we get a goat if we move to Orrville, Alabama from the big city of Alabaster, I might use some of your recipes. Thank you!

Comments:Hello, I would just like to say thank you for having such a wonderfull web-site for people like me who have absolutely no idea how to homestead except for what I`ve read in mother earth and backwoods home. there is a company called ozarkland.com that I am thinking of buying a piece of land from. they only want 2-400.00 a month for the property and i`d love to get it paid ff in 5 years and be able to move there outright. I didn`t know anything about electric of wells or anything like that and you literaly may have saved me thousands of dollars. Jennifer and I got married this past valentines day feb 14th so tha we could start to live our dream of not having to rely on so much of everything here in the city. ya know what turned me on to homesteading was a friend of ours. when the power went out in the city a few years back we was scared and didn`t know what to do. they just fired up the generator and were cozy as a bug in a rug. we want that security too
thank you and God Bless you

Comments:Numarkets! Oh, the memories. I worked for this group in Chattanooga last year, and boy was it an experience. The owner (whose name is all over wrcb.com's website)is a real class act. He started me and about 8 other employee's in a small store and a larger "warehouse" store at the same time. We were told at that time that we would be "paid on expierence". We had a base of 8.00/hr, and the option based on sales to reach 10. All but one part timer reached the goal annually, but we were always paid 8.00/hr reguardless. "They money is coming!" they'd say. We never got it. The supervisors and bosses had to threaten lawsuits to get any of the money they were promised as well.

In my 5 months there, we sold a boat for 400 grand, a VW bus, a Lexus SUV, and a Picasso. Yes, a real Picasso. The boat turned out to be a fraud, and we were sued. The owner of the VW bug was screwed around so much he asked us to mail his third revision of the commission check so "he didnt have to look at any of us again".

Everywhere you looked they were losing items, screwing over sellers, or just plain mean to empoyees. The owner just knew one thing..

How to take money from people. He got a lot of suckers too. The buyers got the least of the issues, believe me.

After putting our whole life savings, signing over our house as collateral, and borrowing an unreal amount of money based on their lies, we opened up one of their eBay stores. Now we are close to retirement and have lost everything. I noticed today when I checked that they no longer have any items up for auction. I guess their crooked ways finally did them in. It couldn't happen to a "nicer" bunch of people.

Now after so many years and so much of thought as well as bought experiences, I finally came accross the real meaning of Homesteading! and I just love it!

I buy there and grapes are 5 plants(2yr old) for 10.00 and trees are 5/10.00 also if you like to barter. Ole Mr Minor likes bartering more than anything. He sales to many of the gardening catalog companies and he can tell you what rootstock is on what plant/tree/shrub. He is located in Joppa Alabama. Showed you were zone 5 and I'm a 6/7 so I figured you were a bit further south somewhere. But if you hanker for saving $ on your farm on trees, may be what you are looking for.

My name is Stone, I just added my site to the self-reliance webring.
I've been living on the land in middle GA 15 years. I'm now looking at abandoning the place I've been building, 15 years I've been improving somebody else's property, failing to plan for the time that they would get jealous of what I've done.
I've developed the pole structure concept, gotten lots of practice building soil, It's the inter-personal skills department that is always the bugaboo for me.
I'm looking forward to how this bulletin board plays. I think it's a good idea, I hope that you'll put some thought into developing catagories.

I couldn't get your message board to accept my post.

Comments:My friend and I are looking into Homesteading in the Ozarks. This site has helped us in many ways. Both of us grew up in the mountains. Myself in W. VA. and my friend in Pa. Growing up we lived the old fashioned way. Plowing with horeses and mules, growing and preserving everything we ate, and cooking and heating with wood stoves. I know the hardships and so does my friend. Still! it's good to be reminded of some of the ostacles one tends to forget over the years. Thanks for the Website.

Comments:Nice web pages, my wife and I have been looking around southern Missouri for inexpensive property for a while hoping to find some worth homesteading on. It's always good to see someone doing well at it. My wife likes goats, gardening and rivers. I hope to find 20-40 acres with some of it touching on a river or creek. We are probably going to travel down(we live in Minnesota) in November to look around again. My wife, Carol, will be excited to see your website, thanks.

Comments:I just signed the dreambook linked to your pets page and I guess that this is a different one? I have enjoyed looking at all your pages, what a wonderful maze of ideas and photos! I just wondered if you would be interested in a recipe for goat milk icecream. We use alot of our goats milk for icecream and pudding. I'd be happy to share it if anyone is interested.

Happy homesteading,
Miriam

Comments:Greetings from New Hampshire!
I am enjoying my cup of coffee and reading your website, this rainy Sunday morning. I am impressed, and in awe with all of your community accomplishments. I would love a tour oneday! I have less than a half acre of land to work with (no laughing), but planted my very first blueberry bush yesterday. I also have a small patch of wild strawberries, and 2 bunnies to help with some "fertilizing". I hope to get a couple of fruit bearing trees, and my first vegetable garden started next year. As a Mom of an 8 yr old with Cerebral Palsy & Aspergers, and a 4 yr old with Autism, it is a start. It would be difficult to homestead in my current home/living situation. But(slowly)learning to become more self sufficient, has been rewarding and fun.

With great admiration and warmest regards,
Allison

Comments:I was cleaning out the attic of an old home I just bought in Little Rock AR. In the attic I found a 40 year old flyer advertising the Bridal Cave. Its hilarious with its 60's style-dressed people, and its references to electric lighting, blacktop roads, and modern boat docks. Anyway - when I searched for Bridal Cave on the internet - you were the first link - even before the Bridal Cave website. I thought your website was neat, and your living concept interesting. It was rather wierd how I came to find it, though! Good luck!
