I was hoping someone could help me identify a cartoon I used to watch when I was a kid, as I've been wondering about it for a long time, and I figured with all the super chicken reminiscing going on, this was the place to ask it. As I said in my previous comment, my family couldn't pay for television, so I grew up watching old recordings from back when family-member-so-and-so had cable. I had no knowledge of commercials as a kid - whoever had recorded the shows had turned the recorder off during the breaks, so I simply became accustomed to a crackling black and white jump of several seconds and then my favorite characters again. It would come as quite a shock when I first saw 'real' television with all those pesky ads! Many of the cartoons I played over and over again were in black and white, despite our television being color, so I know they were quite old. My favorites were what I later learned were called Silly Symphonies: Arctic Antics and Steamboat Willy. There were also recordings of a show called Quack Attack and some sort of Mickey's Playhouse show or something like that. But there's a show I have memories of that I can't identify and I'd like you guys' help. I was probably about six, so my memories aren't the best, but what I recall is a man with a moustache who flew about in a red aeroplane that looked to be of the WW1-era. I imagine he was based off the Red Baron, but I don't know for sure. He wore flight goggles and long leather gloves and (I think) a scarf and I'm pretty sure he was the bad guy. He had a dog who rode in the seat behind him and may have been blue colored, I'm not sure on that though. The dog also had goggles and had a propeller tail which would hoist him up when he fell out of the plane, which I think was often. He usually had some sort of sarcastic/fatalistic remark to make about the pilot. I seem to recall this villain frequently hitting the side of his plane in frustration when he was shot down and yelling some sort of trademark, goofy curse, but I don't remember what it was. Anybody know the show? I've been curious about it for a long time now, but my mother and father don't remember it, even though I'm sure it was on those tapes. As I said, some of the recordings were very old, so I'm not sure what decade the show was from, but it was definitely in color, if that helps. | Comments: | Haha! I ended up here in a very silly way and I thought you might appreciate hearing about it. You see, I'm 18 and I had never so much as heard of Super Chicken (or so I thought!), but my father is a Vietnam Veteran and I'm in the habit of listening to his stories and going through his old pictures from the 'Nam. One of these is a photograph of a number of Marines on a transport truck moving through the jungle. The photographer is standing behind them and on the back of the last vehicle is written 'super chicken!'. I had always assumed it to be some sort of private joke but I decided to google it today to find out if there was deeper meaning behind it and here I am. Thanks for the laugh! I have it scanned to my computer if you want to see it. I imagine it's good to know that such a silly cartoon could bring some merriment to the troops so far from home. I wish cartoons were still like this! And you know, the best bit is, I thought I had never heard of super chicken; I certainly didn't recognise the name in the photograph. But then I ended up on your site and I started listening to your audio clips and I realised that I HAD seen episodes of super chicken! My family didn't get television channels growing up, you see, so as a child, my 'television' was home-recordings from back in the day when someone or other had cable. I distinctly remember watching things as old as Steamboat Willy and Silly Symphonies in black and white, Quack Attack and other similar things over and over again, and I now know that Super Chicken was among those!
