I'm primarily searching for the antecedents of John Sommer (d 1926), Anna Belle Wheeler Sommer (d 1947), Martin M Caufman (Coffman)(d 1885) and Louisa Adams Caufman (Coffman), also died 1885 and all in Mason County. Most of my closer relatives from the Pt. Pleasant/Southside area I either knew personally or have been able to trace via other means. Since I am old enough to have crossed the Silver Bridge many, many times in my childhood & young adulthood to visit various & sundry relatives with my mother, it's obvious it wouldn't be so easy for me to make what would now be a 4-5 drive to do personal, hands-on research, so any hints or information will be appreciated. |

| Comments: | Hi Everyone. Well, this is a longshot. My grandmother was born to a woman in Mason County West Virginia named Anna Robinson. Anna died shortly after giving birth, and my grandmother was raised by the fathers parents, (Love's). My grandmother has sinced passed away after living a full life with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, but died without ever having seen a picture of her own mother, Anna Robinson. Anna Robinson would have died on or shortly after February 6th 1912. So basically my famly has a whole section of our family tree we have never known. Penelope JORDEN was born around 1835 in Mason County, and she married Irishman Cornelius COUGHLIN 150 years ago, during the Civil War. Their neighbors remained the same over the years, Kimberling, Stephenson, Poffenbarger, Lewis, Craig, George, Day, Sanders.... Surely some of these families are relatives, as Penelope did not own land.

St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery is of particular interest to me. Do you know if family records from 1860 to 1900 are available in Mason or Point Pleasant? Where would you suggest I go?
I have been able to trace my gr gr gr grandparents, Harry/Henry and Julia (Ryan) Hart living in Mason, WV between 1860 and 1880. Two of Harry's brothers, James and Thomas were married to Isabelle and Jane Ryan, Julia's sisters. They lived in Mason, WV during this same time. My gr gr grandfather, Matthew Henry Hart was born in Mason 7/22/1866. I have a .pdf document that describes basic info and activities of James, Thomas and Henry Hart, their wives, and several generations of their families from 1850 when they first came to the U.S. from Ireland via a short stay in England, settled in Mason Co. in 1860s and moved to Dunkirk, IN in the 1890s As best as I can tell all of Thomas' and Jane's family, along with Julia and Matthew (my immediate family) all left the Mason Co. area in the 1890's to work in a family owned glass manufacturing business. A few of James' and Isabelle's children remained in the area, but I have not had much success tracing them or their descendants, so there may not be many people doing genealogy work interested in the Hart and Ryan families from Mason Co., WV. Do you have an interest in having a copy of this? |

My grandmother Mary Cain Morrison (buried at Rockcastle Church) was the dau. of William and Virginia (Knapp)Cain. I'm trying to find the grave of my great grandmother, Virginia Knapp Cain who died in childbirth around 1905. My Mom say's she's buried at Smith's Church but the Cemetary site does not list her.
