It looked somewhat like a miniature German Shepherd, but I never could figure out what breed or breeds it was. After a life of terriers I never thought I could fall in love with another breed. I can't understand why SV aren't as popular as the Laborador Retriever! | Comments: | I have just "found" Vallhunds! What an interesting and adorable little dog. As a deaf individual, I have had 2 service dogs trained for sound. My first one was an Elkhound, and my second one was Shid Zu. (I know that is spelled wrong!) I raised my beloved Elkhound, Maggie, and the second dog was a rescued pound dog trained by the hearing dog school. I have been without a hearing dog for 13 years at this time, and am beginning to think of a new dog. These Vallhunds seems like perfect dogs for the training and work required for hearing dogs!! I am going to research more. I live in New Hampshire, and the hearing dog school is NEADS in Princeton, MA. I have been enjoying all the pictures and information on your website. Thank you!! |

We have a lot of steps at our house. During my research I learned of the SV and become very interested in the little guys. But there seems to be only a few breeders. We live near Annapolis Md. Assuming we “qualified”, how hard is it to find a puppy? We do want to wait until this summer to find a puppy. We do have many other questions, but will end with this one, how much do they shed? I am 100% Swedish and very proud of it, my grandparents on both sides were immigrants to America. When I saw the Vallhund I knew I had to find out more and see if there are any in my neighborhood. For years I have believed that she was a Corgi mix of some kind(and she may be). However, after seeing the special clip on APL and looking at your website I believe she is a swedish vallhund. Maybe not full blood but she definitely has the same markings,size, bone structure, coat and temperment that I have seen on this website. I will definitely be watching this group of dogs from now on. | Comments: | believe it or not the little puppy that we have came from the animal pound in Sioux City IA. Somebody dumped the puppy and animal control brought her in. After doing a lot of research she is a SV. what a beautiful dog she is. She is seven months old and weighs 20 pounds. She has a 2 year old sister (a whippet) to play with. we love her dearly and very glad that we can give her the home she deserves. At the pound they thought she was a mixed corgi. We have owned this breed for over 30 yrs. but in the future need to havve smaller companions for a variety of reasons. We want a breed that has as many of the GSD characteristics as possible and I think the SV just might fit the bill. They are adorable. I am looking forward to seeing some in person. She stopped and introduced me to 2 adorable, friendly dogs. I am completely enamored. I don't currently have a dog, but my daughter has been begging for one. | Comments: | I met a puppy at the Coventry Farmer's Market yesterday. I fell in love with it immediately. It looked very similar to a dog I had when my children were infants. Her name was Terra, and she was the BEST dog ever. I found her at a pound. Everyone always asked if she was a miniature German Shepherd. I think she might have been a Swedish Vallhund. I got her in the 1970's. |
