Both of the 300 D Turbos are still going great and almost trouble free over the past 10 years except for minor repairs and upkeep. The 1992 420 SD is a little different story though. It was causing us problems in the electical department for a while but we got that sorted out at long last. (3 alternaters later..!). I will never part with either of my 300 D Turbos.. This is my first Mercedes, and now I understand why people say "It has 200,000 miles and the motor is just getting broken in." :) It handles like a dream, turns corners like a small car, accelerates like a grown-up and driving it for 250 miles down the interstate for the first time felt like flying a Boeing 747. So smooth. It is in great condition for its age, the two previous owners took good care of it, plan on converting it to run on straight veggie oil. |

Today we actually went to see if the 230CE would start after it had been in storage for 2 years, and surprise surprise it went first time! True to form after not having a wash for the same amount of time, the rear lights were still totally untouched. I have always understood why my dad has maintained such a passion for these cars, and it is because whatever engine or spec the W123 is, it is just brilliant. The combination of silver paintwork and blue leather is exactly what I was looking for. The engine is a bit thirsty and feels heavy, but is quite powerful, especially on the open road. The soundtrack is the best feature... although muted, it resonates through the whole car and feels alive and solid.

I do l(one)litre of diesel to 10km. The interior and the trims are still orginal with perforated leather cream seats. Original Becker radio, cassette player with electronic aerial.Carpets still intact. I am thinking of upgrading the wheels to alloy and changing them to 15inch as well as the steering wheel which I feel is too big.
I now understand why these guys at Daimlyer will never make new models in the same mould as they will definetly be out of business. This is a very reliable car that is trouble free. I still get compliments on her and some offers as well |

| Comments: | When my father first bought this car it really needed a paintjob, the previous owner tried to paint it himself but things didn't turn out that well, so when we first bought it it needed some fixing here and there, now it's on it's third paint job since we got it. The original engine on this car was a 240d with 65 hp, it had done about 800.000 km until we rebuilt it, after that another 200.000 km was possible until it broke (it seems one of the pistons cracked). Currently a 220d with 60 hp has been fitted (it's a om615 so it must be from a w115 body, it was bought from a mechanic), but if you think the 240d engine is slow, wait till you see this 220d, we could't find a better replacement for it when the other 240 engine broke down so we bought this one. But still I love this car, it's my first car, she might be noisy, she might be slow, she might like to smoke, but I love her, she hasn't let me down, even if sometimes I have had trouble starting her (there's a few more things I haven't had the time or the money to do like a new engine starter, battery, longer spark plugs-I don't have the original ones-); and of course front and back struts and everything were replaced 2 times. The gearbox hasn't been messed with, and it still works altough it's not like new, it works, only the oil has been changed in it. And there would be much more to tell about this car, but I haven't got the time right now. Now I would like to buy a w123 230E in a good condition, after that I will put this one in a garage and let her rest, I would like to rebuild her completely but rust just doesn't want to go away if you know what I mean, and also when we'll have the time maybe we will rebuild the original 240 engine and put that in, or just keep it "in the freezer".

| Comments: | I have a W123, 1984, Benz 300D (non-turbo) 5 cylinder diesel. My fuel injection pump now has leaks coming from under 3 of the 5 distributor valves where they mate with the top of the injection pump. I have recently purchased the (expensive!) 32 point socket for removing the distributor valves, and all I need now are the gaskets, or o-rings for proper sealing of the distributors. I cannot find the correct parts anywhere here in VT. No one on the web seems to have them in stock either. The o-rings that I believe seals the top of the injection pump for the delivery valves are square top, tapered, black rubber (or some type of diesel friendly material). I've tried the typical round rubber o-rings but they tear after I try to re-seal the delivery valves back down. If you have any, or know of someone who might, please let me know. I'm guessing my engine is an OM 617.912. Thanks!

Its comfortable, reliable, smooth, big inside and very fuel efficient. With 4 gears i covered 528kms without using the reserve tank at all. that's more than 12 kms per litre. Recently fitted a w126 central locking unit that works great. Now i'm working on the air conditioning. Don't ever let anyone fool you into selling yours. | Comments: | have a 200 with 4 speeds on it. Bought at MYR 10K. spent MYR 7K just for the exterior and and upholstery. engine very minimal becoz lucky buy. But never the less, what a ride man. Wheels are non standard, 205/65 on 15" rims. Gets aproximately 400km for a full tank of petrol. Top speed tested so far is 160km/h. looking for ways to improve and still maintain the integrity of the W123. |

Car was it´s first two years in Beirut. After two years finnish owner came back to Finland with 230 E. I have been owner of this car one year. Now this 230 E is out of register. I decided to fix and register this car on next summer. |

| Comments: | It is very beautiful car. I like travelling without no reason with it. I did all its services and replaced clutch and all its parts. Brake system are working very well for a 1977 model car. But it is burning oil so its engine needs to be rebuilded. İts moving parts are also good enough. But i cant control the burning fuel. Its also 14lt/100km in town but i try every time for less fuel, it is imposibble. |

| Comments: | I bought this car 18 months ago to run it on veggie oil. One year ago I had the engine rebuilt - rebored cylinders, new pistons, new oil pump and reconditioned injectors. As the body is so good I wanted to engine A1. Now all is in order and I am running it on veggie oil - I converted it myself.
A beautiful car to drive - this car has taught me what it is to truely drive a car and cruise. Now the journey is what its all about and not the destination - usually I arrive at the destination before I have had enough of the driving experience - God bless the W123!! |
