The below poster Mia did not leave an e-mail address that worked, so my response to her is public:

Thanks for listening. I imagine this bit about needing to work on my higher notes was offered as constructive criticism, which I am open to. However, as a music teacher, I'm sure you know that it's difficult to really make anything of such a vague suggestion. Here are some ways you can further help me if you so desire:

1. What did you listen to? If I can have an example of something you listened to which you thought needed "work" on a higher note, I might gain perspective. With only the information above, I don't have any idea if you listened to my pop or my more classical stuff, and don't know what constitutes a high note that I need work on.

2. What do you suggest would result in the high notes coming out better? When I was a music major with a voice specialization, my vocal coaches never just told me to "work on" something--they definitely had advice. I don't know if perhaps you're a more general or non-vocal type of music teacher, but unless you can give me a hint as to a technique that will result in better high notes, all I really have is "make it better," which doesn't help me much.

3. What did you think the high notes lacked? Did they sound too soft or too loud? Uncontrolled? Strangled? Flat/sharp? (And, again, as mentioned in point #1, I'd need an example to back it up or I won't be able to benefit from your advice.)

I realize you probably didn't want to barrel into my guestbook with an in-depth analysis, so maybe that's why you didn't include much in the way of applicable advice, but if that was what was stopping you, feel free to unload! And if you don't have any advice for me, I'll still thank you for giving your attention to my site. Thank you for stopping by!

I listened to your music, you have a good voice. As, a music teacher, I would suggest to work on the way you sing your higher notes. Best of luck to you, and God bless!

I just finished reading book 3, Brisingr, and I'm disappointed that you haven't written an essay about it yet. To be honest I was looking forward to finishing the book so I could get to the essay. Let me know when you put one up!

~Ivy, I have been coming to visit your site for years ! ...and WOW, you are making your 10 year transition to your own domain. Very cool ! I saw that photo of you with the three loaves of braided cardamom bread ! My mom used to make that (Nisua?) when she was married to a Finnish man. That has got to be best smelling (and tasty) bread in the world. Well, I got my rear over here to sign, because I was prompted to do so, and well great, now I feel less guilty and lurkful ! Love you always dear ^o^ ~John

Sweetheart, seriously. Grow out the bangs and own the fact you're 29, and stop posting pics of yourself/friends on the internet. Rise above all this, because your life reads like one long, sad study in deep personal inhibition.
None of this is real, after all. And in the meantime, you are missing everything that is. I'm only here because I have to take breaks from studying medicine, you have no excuse at all.

A new guestbook! Naturally I must sign it. I am eagerly awaiting the official opening of swankivy.com -- and right now, the new episode of Negative One, also, which I expect will be published any minute. There's so much good content here that your site always keeps me coming back for more. :)
