Comments:What a thrill to begin the New Year with you here in Columbia for "First Night," filling the Missouri Theater, and then at the Courthouse Square.. A whole new art form that inspired and uplifted us. Such amazing energy and discipline you have. It's not just the precision and sensitivity of the sound; it's also the grace and force and determination with which you move -- Can we call it "dance"? That's almost too gentle of a word. More like poetic explosion, everywhere at once, yet joined in an organic whole. I'm telling my friends about you!

Comments:Hey all! St. Louis Osuwa Taiko will always occupy a special place in my heart for bailing me out of a complete disaster back in 2003. I was on tour with Hiroshima right after the Taiko Conference and due to a mix up with the road manager I showed up in St. Louis with NO DRUMS!! Luckily St. Louis Osuwa Taiko saved the day by rushing drums to the theater seconds before I was supposed to take the stage... whew... I'll always be grateful for that!

Feeling so fortunate to wander through the event on such a gorgeous day, I heard the announcment for the taiko performance and rushed to find a seat. From the first beat I was utterly mesmorized. Thank you to the Columbia Arts Festival for giving this to us. I too am going to take the classes...our planet needs global drumming...I love the idea of bringing Native American drummers and all drummers together to synchronize out hearts once and for all!

I had my eight year old brother with me and he was so bored all say and complained about everything until you guys went on. When you guys started playing his eyes got huge and he just said "that's awesome" and didn't move until you guys walked off set. It's all he's been talking about for hours! I hope you guys raise enough money to go to Japan! Good Luck and thanks for the performance, it was awesome!

Comments:WOW! How COOL is Taiko! I knew I wanted to see a drum performance at the Japanese Festival yesterday...but I had no idea what I was in for. You guys are amazing and cool and talented and artistic. I am a musician, and all musicians have their tonal art and most have a visual aspect as well based on their physical activity (I've always been known to "get into it.") But you guys raise that physical activity to a whole new level and it is AWESOME.

Yup, loved it, can't wait to hear it again, want to do it. Just hope the class fits my schedule.

Comments:Three of the members of Osuwa Taiko drove all the way from St. Louis to Edmond, OK to particapate in Taiko Madness II
that was held at my home again this year.

Only 3 of them played, but it could have been a dozen from the sound and the energy that they produced. There were 3 college drumming groups at the event who were priviliged to watch Osuwa Taiko play half a dozen different drum selections.

Each group learned something from each of the other group's
performance. It was an amazing afternoon of drumming under crystal clear skies and an unusually calm day for Oklahoma.

We went out to dinner with Andrew, Jaci, and Junsei after the event concluded and had a great meal at Pearl's Lakeside Restaurant. We had a great conversation about taiko and related things for over 2 hours. They are all wonderful and engaging people.

Most of the members of the 3 college groups are international students who will have a terrific memory of the day they spent in Edmond drumming for their friends.

Comments:Dear Friends,
I saw your performace for the first time Friday night, 2/29/08, here in Jefferson City. This was one of the most amazing experiences of my life!!

I can't tell you how much the power and beauty of your performances moved me! Between the loveliness of Maki's face as she concentrated on the music, Anna's incredibly beautiful smile and the love I could "feel" radiating from her as she flowed with the music, Helena's lovely form and power, and Andrew's incredible "force", together with the beauty of the "dance" as you ALL preformed "together" was almost more than I could stand!

Thank you "ALL", for one of the most incredible experiences of my life!!

I so hope to see you all again, and soon, and so I can bring some of my friends who I know will experience the same kind of joy and beauty that I did!!

Thank you!!

Good-bye for now! I hope to see you again soon!! (I may have to do something {pull some strings} either here in Jefferson City or at University of Missouri in Columbia to get you all back in this area as swoon as possible. I'll see what I can do!)

Oh by the way, have you all ever performed for a group of American Indians? As great and powerful as drums were (and still are) in their culture, I would think this would be something they would "REALLY" enjoy experiencing!! (I think the "meeting" of these two cultures, in this way, through this music, would be awesome!!)

Take care, my friends! God willing, we will meet again!

Ellen, Aya, too?

I was away from the US for the past three years (went to Singapore to teach) and now I'm back in the US, at Cornell. It seems they just started taiko group last year here, so I am planning to join them (if I passed the audition, that is.)

Anyway, just wanted to say Hi to St. Louis Osuwa Taiko Group. You guys sound GREAT!!! :)

We lived in Japan for 3 years. We have family there.
We saw a Taiko session in Japan with more than 30 people on stage. It was very moving. You feel your heart beat keeping with the time of the drum. I love it.When we saw your art, your music it was the same feeling.
You know it only takes a few Taiko drummers can make a sound of 300!

I'm seriously considering joining the taiko group here in Austin. 2 things I got out from my visit last week 1) Extreme happiness in seeing you guys again and playing on the drums again and 2) Realization of how out of shape I am. My arms and legs were sore for days after the short 2 hour fun I had with the drums. I feel like I was back to day one 5 years ago when I first started playing taiko.

Miss you guys. Drop me call if you're heading down this way. I might make another trip to STL next year for the 5 year Wash U reunion. Who knows... hope to see you soon and good luck on everything.

The lastest event was at the Japanese Festival of the Missouri Botanical Garden, and at the beginning of the summer at the Hands Across the Pacific performace at Maryville. I just wanted to say that I love the group, I love the performances and I love the members. I think you're all wonderful people for sharing your gift with others, and thanks so much for the picture opportunity you gave to us Hands Across the Pacific students! You've helped to introduce me to a new and beautiful artform, and I hope to see more performances in the future!
