Comments: Hello Aftter a few years of not researching I figured I would give it another try as I cannot seem to find anyone that is researching my line throughly. Some just want bits and pieces. I am researching the Powell line from orange county Virgina and the surrounding counties. Orange,Greene,Culpepper,Madison. My GGgrandfather Willis Powell was born in Virgina in 1804 and he married Jane Mariah Harrison in 1829 in Madison County Virgina. I know that he lived in and around Madison County untill about 1838 as they had two children born in Virgina. Permelia Ann B:about 1830 and Eliza Jane B: abt 1838. The reason I sat about is that around 1838 to 1840 the left Va and headed to Missouri. My Great Grandfather was born in Howard county Missouri in 1840. also Fielding Powell Jr came to Missouri around 1845-1846 as he was killed by his brother Willis in a fight which Fielding Had satrted and had gotten the best of my gggrandfather. anyone researching this line contact me at above E-mail. Thank You Craig Powell

I believe Lucy was born in Stafford Co. about 1752, but her birth is not registered in the Overton Parish Records. I believe she was married to William Mason about 1770, and she eventually had thirteen children. She and William moved to Culpeper Co. where he was the preacher at the Culpeper Baptist Church. I really need to find the will of Enoch Benson of Stafford Co. VA.or a mention of Lucy Benson with William Mason in Culpeper Co. Send me an e-mail if you have any of these records. Mary

I didn't find them in your cemetery listing, but I will keep trying. This is part of my Ancestry search. He also married a woman named Sarah. If you can provide me with any information it will be appreciated. There are many of us on the site looking, for him.

Comments:I am looking for the parents of James W Hudson who was born in Culpeper around 1800 and died in Warren County, MO in 1893. I do not know his father's name but his mother was named Anna or Ann. She was born in 1800 and died in Warren County, Missouri in 1881. Her obituary said that she was born in Culpeper and went to Missouri in 1834. Through DNA testing, James can be traced back to Joshua Hudson (1650-1704) in Westmoreland County, VA but I do not know the names of the people in between. James was married, in Missouri, to Eliza B Reynolds who was also from Culpeper. James W had at least two brothers who were also born in Virginia, Alexis Caswell Hudson and Thomas J Hudson.

Rev Mason became a Baptist minister after he settled in Culpeper Co. after the Revolutionary War. I am trying to collect the paper documents to prove that he was a Rev. soldier, that he married Lucy Benson the dau. of Enoch Benson and Mary D'oail of Culpeper Co. I asked some one from your county to send me copies of documents, but lost her e-mail address, name and now I am not sure if I will hear from her again. The story I heard from a distant cousin is that Moses McMichael was in the Union Army in the Virginia campaigns during the Civil War. In Culpeper, he met and fell in love with a young woman, and after the war he returned to Culpeper and married her. Does anyone know if this might be true?

Comments:I am searching for the cemetery where my great-grandfather, Thomas Hartness, is buried. We know he is buried in Culpeper, and we know that he died in the 1870's or '80's. We also know that there is a headstone with his name on it. He came here to Oregon in 1852 with his family from New York and opened the first brick yard in Portland. We know that he left Orgeon during the Civil War and went to Virginia. He never returned to Oregon, leaving all of the family here. We don't know if he was involved with the war or not, but are guessing he was. And, as stated, we do know he is buried somewhere in Culpeper.(not the Nat. Cemetery) My husband and I are traveling around VA during the the 2nd week of April and I would like to make a side trip to Culpeper and find my great-grandfather. I have searched on-line for cemeteries in the area and there are many. I have asked for information from a couple of sources I found and have had no response. I am so hoping a member of your organization might be able to stear me in the right direction, as I would like to know where to go when we get to Culpeper and not have to go from cemetery to cemetery. Even though he left his family, Thomas Hartness is the reason I am involved with and am a long time member of the Sons and Daughters of the Oregon Pioneers. He came here before OR became a state. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from perhaps one of your members. Sincerely, Alice Hartness-Reichle, Portland, OR
