Comments:I am looking for info on Caroline Matilda Knott (or Knote). Born 1845, died 1926, married Barnett Marcellus Rosson 1864. She was my great grandmother. I believe they lived in Madison Co, but I know she was from Luray. I remember my mother always talking about her grandparents from Luray. I know they later lived in Guplh Mills PA, as I just visited their graves. Also looking for Rhoda Battern (or Batten)(married Barnett Rosson 1829) born abt 1810, died 1850, Rhoda Ann Cook born 1770 in Culpepper, died 1851 in Madison Co, and Elizabeth Huffman (married Bartlett Rosson in 1807) born 1785. I never knew my grandparents and this is so cool, it brings them to life for me. Thanks so much. Doris

Name: Charles R Leary
E-mail address: juani2@msn.com
Comments:My ancestors lived in Pine Forge and Isabella Furnace Districts in 1820 and 1830 and later. John Leary Senior was over 80 and under 90 in the 1830 census. He was a Veteran of the Revolutionary War and a pensioner from 1831 through 1838. In 1837 he moved and requested transfer of his pension benefits to Augusta County. He died in Mt Solon, Augusta County, January 6, 1839. I have not been able to locate his place of burial. It occurs to me that since he spent most of his life after the War in Shenandoah County he may have been buried there. This John had a son John Jr who married Eve Clem in 1815. John Jr was in the War of 1812 and was granted 272 and 1/2 acres of land along the Passage Creek. Deeded to his daughter Harriet who married John Chrisman. I have a picture of the headstone of the young John Leary who died in 1848 and was buried in the Isaiah Clem Cemetery but have found none of his wife Eve.

There was a William and Elizabeth (known as Betsy) Leary household in the same are in 1820 and 1830. They moved to Warren County where both died in the 1850's.

My GGGgrandfather James Leary who married Barbara Clem from the same household as Eve Clem above had, I believe, 6 children while living there. This family moved to Randolph County, VA (now WV) about 1833.

I would welcome correspondence with someone in the society who could assist me in my search in that area. My email is: juani2@msn.com and my snail mail is:

Comments:Hi,
My name is Donna Rock. For some 25 years, I have been
researching my 3rd ggf Peter Rock (1800) who is said to have
been Ignatius Rock's great grandson. I am in hopes of find-
ing someone else who has researched Ignatius with the hope
of discovering more about my ROCKs. Peter lived for a period of about 10 years in Somerset Co, Pa. Before that
it has been said by Tom Imler of Bedford Co, Pa. that he
lived with his father on his great grandfather's land. I am
not clear as to whether that land was in Pa or Va. It has
also been said of Peter that he was "young" Peter Rock,
making it seem that there must have been an "older" Peter
who could well have been his father. Can you, please, shed
any light on all this. I would be eternally grateful for
your assistance in any way.

Gratefully,

Donna Rock dlrcsj3430@aol.com

My ancestors were Peter Ruffner, Jr., Jonas Ruffner and his daughter Mary Ann Ruffner. Mary Ann married John Baker Davenport, in the salt manufacturing business, and lived in Charleston, West Virginia and Middleport, Ohio, most of her married life. What a treat it was to visit Mary Ann's home and, you know, for the first time in my 70 years I found a four-leafed clover in Page County!

Comments:I am searching for information on surnames Rohrback, Rothgeb, and Stoneburner. These are some of my ancestors and I am trying to link any information from Page County. My Great Great Grandfather Otho C. Rohrback and his wife Cordelia Norris Rohrback moved to Compton, Page County Virginia, around 1880. He died there on December 9, 1904. Their son George W. Rohrback married Emma Stoneburner and they had a daughter Essie who married a Rothgeb. Essie lived in Shenandoah Virginia into the 1950's or 1960's. Our family has lost contact with this part of our heritage and I am trying to reconnect.

Comments:I am a descendant of Bethany Veney who once lived in Luray, VA. She had a daughter named Charlotte who married Aaron Jackson, of which both were living in Virginia. I am desperately searching for any information regarding any possible family connections.
The Kiblers were slave holders of Bethany Veney and her siblings, mother and grandmother whose last name I believe was Johnson. Bethany also had a brother and sister(Matilda. I know the surnames are correct and hope that this is start.
