| Comments: | I was moved to tears by your website. The evident love you have for your pets is truly touching and can only be appreciated by other animal-lovers. I experienced profound grief when I lost three of my beloved pets (2 cats, Kato and Nermil, and my first Chow, Kodiak, aka Cody) just a few years ago. My 13-year-old Kato was the first to go (March 2002), followed shortly by Nermil (April 2002), who was only six years old. (Nermil suffered from polycystic disease throughout his short life, until it completely overwhelmed his body and metasticized into cancer.) When we finally parted after two months of torturous treatment, I reeled. I couldn't eat, sleep, or even function on a basic level (like open mail) for about one year. Just when I began to recover, my 7-1/2 year-old Cody showed the first sign of serious illness (pain and limping in his right front leg when walking). The diagnosis was unclear, but the problem was treated as a pinched nerve and seemed to respond to prednisone. But one month later, Cody suddenly didn't want to get up or walk, and whimpered in agonizing pain that night. His "elimination" was shockingly abnormal the following morning. Based upon two consultations at different clinics, we made the heart-wrenching decision to end his suffering swiftly that day. I didn't want to prolong his obvious suffering in vain, only to change the dynamics of our relationtionship in the process (becoming a source of torture as I administered treatment, etc., as I had w/ Nermil).
Two years have passed. I now have two more cats, Xander the scaredy-cat, and Bellamy the brave (who was "Belle" until the SECOND vet visit revealed he was not a girl!). I believe I'm ready for another dog now, and I insist that it's the dignified Chow. (Subsequently to losing Cody, I learned that Chows are TYPICALLLY clean, consistently eliminating in a chosen area, and aren't destructive. Oh well, Cody was still special!) However, I'm having difficulty finding a reputable breeder in my area. (I purchased Cody and his sister, Cassie, from a pet "store". While boarding the dogs for the week it took us to put up our fence, the store had Cassie euthanized WITHOUT my knowledge/consent to avoid liability for vet care she needed. Outraged, I contacted various organizations to obtain some sort of justice; in the process, I learned about puppy mills. I was relieved to learn that I did NOT support a mill when I purchased Cody; he was from a local breeder, who just happened to live about 1/2 mile from me! (I tracked down the breeder via Cody's AKC registration.) Well, the breeder has since moved, and I'm unable to locate her. Is there anyone you can refer me to? I don't need an award-winning dog, and I don't want to spend more than $500. Any assistance you can give me would be greatly appreciated. : ) |

| Comments: | I love your site. I was so sad with Duncan's story. I got a Chow on 12/15/2001. He left us unexpectedly on 3/27/2003 while my Mother was in the hospital. She was 92. I have had dogs all my life but I have never felt about any of them like I did my Tuffy. I told everyone for 11 years he was second ONLY to my Granddaughter. I know the rest of the family knew where they fell in line. I now have a 8-1/2 year old Maltese/Bischon and an 13-1/2 year old Rott/Shepherd mix, Tuffy's sister and cousin. Some day I hope to have another Chow. I am 62 and I know Tuffy is waiting for me someday. I just lost my Mother at 93 in November and I know along with her family and all the other fur babies we have had she and Tuffy are together. If you ever decide to breed please let me know. |

I have had her since she was 6 weks old and during her first heat found out she had demodex mange. It has ended up costing me 3000.00 but the love and loyalty she gives me is worth it. I was shoked when I heard Marty died. Your chow babies are beautiful!! Where is Elvis?? Looking through your site is always a pleasure. Have 2 gorgeous chows from Lolly. I had also a beautiful girl from a breeder in Florida. She was diagnosed with renal failure at 10 months. She had Renal Dysplasia and polycystic kidneys. Her first attack was at 16 weeks... two weeks after I received her. No one would think a puppy 16 weeks old was dying of renal failure. I have a hole in my heart it hurts so very much. the Show Secretary of the Northwest Pit Bull Terrier Club. You inquired whether we could host your Chow breed at our May show. We are unable to host your breed in May, because it is too late to add breeds. The show announcement has already been published. However, we have a show weekend coming up in August, which will be held at Frontier Park in Graham, WA (outdoors, unless weather is nasty). We have two senior judges who are licensed to judge the Chow Chow breed (Joseph Allen and Diane Allen of Indiana). Thus we could host Chow Chows on Saturday, Aug. 26 (afternoon show only) and on Sunday, August 27. Please be aware that this is a United Kennel Club show, and that your dogs need to be UKC registered to enter. Also, our show license application for August was due on March 1, and has already been submitted to UKC. However, I contacted UKC Multi-Breed Division and begged them for an exception, so I could add your breed. They told me that they would add the Chow Chows to our August show license, if I inform them by early next week in writing. Thus, you need to contact me by Monday or Tuesday, either by e-mail or phone (253)874-3349 - leave message on the recorder if I'm not there to take it in person - and let me know whether you can attend the August 26 & 27 show dates, and whether you can get UKC registration for your dogs (in case they are not already UKC registered). That should be fairly simple if they are already AKC registered. Don't wait till last minute, because the registration process usually takes a few weeks. UKC's website is at http://ukcdogs.com and it has info on registration. Their phone # is 616-343-9020 (Extension 2 for registration) and they are 3 hours ahead of Pacific Time. I don't know whether you have shown in UKC before, but dogs are not handled by paid professionals. UKC offers not only a champion title, but also a grand champion title. Lovely website!
