Comments: Hi,I'm still working on the family tree,a few others have done alot of the work,I'm just trying to fill in gaps and flesh it out more. Our branch celebrates its 100th reunion this August 1st at Hironimus Park and Hironimus Union Church in Weikert,Pa.Its in the boonies, but I have directions if anyone is interested. The tree is traced back to mid 1600s in the Alsace region of France.Towns of Uhrwiller,Mulhausen,Schillersdorf,Zutzendorf..etc..The name over there was Hieronimus, with pronunciations of "Kronimus" and "Gronimus".Anyone with any more info would be a big help.My direct ancestor was Jacob who brought his family over on the Brig Osgood landing in Philadelphia in 1819,and made his way up to what is now Union Co.,Weikert,Pa.Thanks again

It was so great seeing all of you again. Our 50-year reunion was a huge success! It was encouraging to see so many new faces too. We need the younger generations if we are to keep HIFIA going, and I believe it is a very worthwhile endeavor. Although most of us we see each other only at the reunions, we have come to know and love so many of you from all over the country.
We already have started making plans for the next reunion, and we hope to see you in Virginia in 2008.

Comments: "The Hieronymus Family in America"(HIFIA) Association was organized in 1956 in Lexington, KY. The goal of the organization was to do research on the family and to tie members of that family to a common heritage. Fifty years later HIFIA has published three books that documents much of what we now know about the origins and fore fathers of the family. The first book was published in 1959 and though small had the first three or four generations of the Hieronymus family with the several different spellings that the name became in the United States. It also documented many of the family stories that had been passed down over the years. HIFIA then attempted to publish a book that would list every known family member that could be connected to the 1959 book and also later immigrants to America bearing the family name. In 1985, HIFIA published a new book that was about 750 pages long. It contains family members with many variations of the family name.
Finally, in 1997 HIFIA published a new book. It was a supplement to the 1985 book in one respect as it added new members that had been located and added corrections and new family members from the 1985 book. But more importantly the 1997 has new information that was found in old German records that accurately shows the relationship of the first three main immigrants (1740 -1760), where they were born and several generations of there German ancesters. It appears that all of the family in America even the later immigrants (1800's) are all descenant from one Matthaus Hieronymus (1602-1672).
If you are interested in family genealogy these discoveries are very exciting.
In conclusion, the goal that the organization HIFIA that was formed in Lexington, KY in 1956 has been realized in the fact that there are now three published books and though most of those who made that happen have passed to their reward, thoses of us remaining should be very thankfull for what they did.

I just returned from three months in China and I believe I was the only Hieronymus in the whole country. The Chinese had so much trouble trying to Pronounce "Hieronymus" That I was given the Name of Li da Qi Means "Big achievement" and at the company I worked in I was known as Dan-e-er. So I Can see how are name evolved by the various nationalities that were writing the books in government. Ken please note my new email address. Nice to meet you.

Fifty Years Since First Organizational Meeting In Lexington, KY

It will be fifty years since the Hieronymus Family in America (HIFIA) was started in Lexington, KY on June 24, 1956. We are having our traditional biennial meeting in Lexington, KY this year to celebrate 50 years that this organization has been active. During the fifty years HIFIA has been successful in publishing three books about the history of the first family members in America and their descendants. Since the beginning of the organization, family researchers have found new and previously unknown details of the first family members. Anyone who is interested in the family history should read these books as they contain an enormous amount of family information. Some of the most exciting new research is only in the latest publication "The Hieronymus Story 1997" which is still available from HIFIA.

I urge all individuals interested in the family to come to our reunion this year and get involved in this organization.

Agenda For 2006 Hieronymus Family Meeting July 13 - 15

Thursday, July 13

Noon to 6:00 PM: Registration (includes sign up for Banquet and Group Tours)

3:00 PM to 4:00 PM: Officers' Meeting

7:30 PM to 8:30 PM: Meeting to announce details of Friday and Saturday activities

Friday, July 14

9:00 AM to 5:00 PM: (tentative times) Group Tour

1. Guided tour of White Hall State Historic Site. This was the home of famous Kentucky statesman Cassius Clay. Under President Lincoln, Clay served as a Minister to Russia to the court of Czar Alexander II. (Cassius Clay was the main subject of our banquet speaker at our 1998 reunion in Lexington, KY).

2. Visit the old Hieronymus farm - located across the Kentucky River from Boonesborough, (Clark County) Kentucky. Several years ago Dr. Joe Hieronymus placed a marker on a spot of land that had been dedicated by the Hieronymus family in 1818 for use as a cemetery. In 1998, HIFIA visited this site as a group for the first time. This is the farm where Frantz Hieronymus is believed to have lived and died.

3. Lunch at Hall's on the River - Hall's on the River sits on the same site of the historic Holder's Tavern established in 1783 by Captain John Holder, a man known for his escapades with the Indians. From Holder's to Hall's, the restaurant has been known for good food and drink, consumed over the centuries by everyone from the Governor to Statesmen to Royalty!

4. Tour of Ft Boonesborough State Park.

A. Tour the replica of the fort at Boonesborough and learn the folklore of legendary exploits of early Kentucky settlers.

B. Guided tour of the Kentucky River Museum that recounts the story of the development of commerce on the Kentucky River.

A Message From The President

Let's celebrate 50 years of HIFIA! I hope you all will join me in making this year's HIFIA meeting in Lexington the biggest ever. We are working hard to put together an agenda that will be fun and interesting for everyone (including the children and grandchildren), but I need your help to make this year's reunion a success.

A block of rooms has been reserved for the meeting at the Spring's Inn. Although the deadline for rooms to be guaranteed is June 12, the sooner you make your reservations, the better we will be able to complete our plans for the reunion. Please make your reservations as soon as possible!

We need to make plans for transportation for the Group Tour, determine how many dinners to order for the banquet, decide on a speaker or program for the banquet, determine whether you would like an additional outing on Saturday morning, etc. Therefore, I am asking that you contact me as soon as possible with your responses to the following questions:

1. Do you plan to stay at The Springs Inn for the reunion? Yes No

2. Do you plan to attend the banquet? Yes No

3. Will you participate in the Group Tour on Friday? Yes No

4. Would you be interested in a Saturday morning outing? Yes No

5. Are you interested in being an officer? Yes No

6. Are you interested in speaking at the banquet? Yes No

(We would love to hear about your individual family histories)

If you are planning to attend the meeting this year, if you have any questions or concerns, or if you have information you would like to share, please contact me in one of the following ways:

All i know about my family past is that my great grandfathers, grand father (or great not sure) bought/built a farm here in central WI and we have no relatives around here, but there seem to be quite a few out on the west coast, and i know nothing of my name and was hoping that someone here could help me out. thanks

Comments: Welcome to the Hieronymus site. Please post. We hope to keep the family group alive and well thru contacts here. Do you know your family line or stories? You might meet some relatives here you didn't know you had. I did, and she has been invaluable in routing out information I never had. Just the spelling of your family name will give you a line of descendency. As you can see on the bottom of the front page, there are many spellings but all begin with the first ones in America so long ago.

Comments: Hello everyone,

It was so good to see several of you again and to make some delightful new friends at the HIFIA reunion. Ken and I had a great time visiting with all of you and catching up on all the news.

I must say - the Hieronymus family come from sturdy stock! Our day-long tour was such a treat, but I worried that it would be too much for many of our "older" members. Boy! Was I wrong! I was amazed watching everyone traipsing up and down steps and refusing to give up and rest. There was so much to see and hear, and nobody was about to miss a thing. What a great bunch of people! You sure ran rings around me.

We will be celebrating the 50-year anniversary of the Hieronymus Family in America Association at our 2006 reunion. I hope all of you will come back to Lexington and bring all the members of your family that you can gather! Let's make it a real celebration.

I heard so many wonderful and interesting stories from everyone - I wish I could have had much more time with each of you. It would be so nice if each of you would take the time to write your own life story and send it to us. I told Ken that we always research our ancestors' lives for information, but we forget that we have the real live people, right now, who can give us their own information first-hand. And, judging from the stories I heard, your lives have been just as important and interesting as those of those distant ancestors we have been reading about! We might even use some excerpts from the stories for a fun "Who Am I" game at the 2006 reunion. How about it?

We are looking forward to seeing all of you in 2006!

Brenda

Comments: HIFIA needs you! just returned form the 2004 reunion in lexington, ky. like carol. this was my first and hopefully not the last. but without interest from younger relatives, HIFIA will in a few years disappear. please plan on joining us again in lexington, ky. july 13, 14, and 15th of 2006. it will be the 50th year HIFIA anniversary also. i had never been to ky nor met any of the family that did attend. i was a little ocncerned that maybe the ones that have been going for years would have cliques and i might be alone. never fear, the gift of gab runs thick in this family. i was welcomed with opened arms. made new friends with many of the new relatives. 3 days was not enough. also, i had never been in ky. it is beautiful. next reunion i plan on bringing more of my family with me. some are already making plans.
i will be checking this site weekly and trying to post monthly or bimonthly here to let everyone know, HIFIA are alive and would love to hear from you.
due to chemotherapy, i will not be able to post nor respond til about september of 2004.
besides names of who you are descended from, pease feel free to ask questions and place some of your family stories here to share. lin davis

His daughter Margaretha (not married), mother of a little Catharina. They all moved( Jacob senior+ Johann Georg and his family+Margaretha and her daughter) and left France about 1828 ( not 1819 as written before). Sorry for the mistakes sent before.A part of the family stayed in France; when one of Jacob (senior 's son), Johann, died in 1853.The death document mentions: "son of Jacob H.dead in Buffalo, America".I looked the lutheran records of Buffalo near Canada (Pa? or State of New York?)and found no mentions.

Hieronymus, who married Louisa Matilda Stayton, nee Corn, on November 26, 1883 in Jackson Co., MO. He died prior to 1900 but I haven't been able to determine where or when. I also have not been able to identify his ancestors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My great grandfather, Johann Philip Hieronymus was born Nov. 20, 1824 in Oberleiderbach, Prussia (which is presently a part of Frankfurt, Germany). He was married to Maria Pfleger. THey brought their family to America about 1875 (I think!) and settled in Posey County, Indiana. My grandmother was Anna Katherine Hieronymus, b. 11-17-1853. She was married to Henry Albert Freudenberg. Hope to learn more about her family. Thanks!

Comments: Hello!
I found this site by typing my family name in a search engine.
I live in Finland and my father's family are from Carelia, which nowadays is a part of Russia.
Ronimus is not a typical Finnish surname and I've always wondered where it comes from.
Somebody, can't remember who, once tried to track down our ancestors but stopped when he found out that one branch of the family tree led to a monk who fathered some illegitimate children in Russia in the 17th century. I'm not sure how true this is, or is it just a family legend.
Anyway, great site, it was fun to see so many different variations of a surname.

can help me to identify these photos, I would be most
grateful. Identifications made to-date are Amy Heironimus

in the Sabina Ohio Library (most of my mother's family is
also in the Centerville Cemetery in Lees Creek Ohio) led me
to the latest edition of the Hieronymus Story and got me
started down the Ronemus trail. If anyone is interested I
