| Comments: | Thank you for providing this page. I had to search for quite some time before finding any kind of support for mothers and I have found it here. When my daughter disclosed her abuse in 1994 I found very little information about sexual abuse anywhere at all. Now 14 years later you can find shelves and shelves of books for survivors but very little for the trauma the non-abusing parents and what it does to our emotional well being. I am just beginning to realize the trauma I myself experienced and I feel it would be very healing for my daughter as well if I were to take steps of my own towards coming to terms with my own experience. As for her abuser, it was her father and he fled the country before her disclosure. I did everything in my power to support my daughter, including getting her into therapy immediately and involving the police the day of her disclosure.The warrants for his arrest are still active and we found his location and status but the Greek authorities are refusing to extradite. We still have not had any closure. Once again, thank you for giving us a place to speak, be heard and heal from the pain of child rape. Cynthia |

| Comments: | my 9 year old daughter was raped by a 53 year old extended family member while visiting her grang mother for the fourth of july almost two years ago the courts said he was not guilty on the rape charge for lack of proof but he still has three charges pending but the now they want to put them on a dead dockit and continue to let him walk free. please help me and tell me what i can do. |

| Comments: | I feel the need to give hope to others. My daughters and I have just spent over a week at the Crown Court, with a successful result. My expartner was convicted on charges of abuse toward my girls when they where much younger. He has been given a four year consecutive prison sentence and will be on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life. I wish the sentence would be longer. I wish he didnt have the right to appeal. But where he should be is in Hell. |

| Comments: | I suspected a long time ago that my husband had abused our children in a sexual way. They could not sleep at night and had a lot of generalized anxiety, not to mention, each of my children had tried to tell me about abuse when they were very young. I had trouble understanding them and I loved my husband and believed him when he told me he had done nothing of the sort. I found out years later that my children were telling the truth and I had been living with a monster. I left him, got a restraining order, and reported it to child protective services. The result was very bad. He got a lawyer to block an interview with child protective services and accuse me of "parental allienation syndrome". His family stood behind this monster and still does. I have become the monster that would tear apart a family and tell lies. When my kids where interview by social services they said nothing which really perplexed me, but I have since learned that they were soooooo scared, they just froze. My kids are older now and able to speak up, I still live with my husband while I work on a degree so I can live on my own without help from him. He has since admitted what he did to me and to two therapists but he has not drilled the truth home to his family so I remain an outcast. Holidays are interesting and lonely to say the least! He would not hurt them again now that they are teenagers, my daughter is legally an adult now, she will not press charges against him until I am able to leave him for she fears what he will do.He stalked me while we were separated and told me he knew I could be happy with someone else but he could never let that happen. Many question why I am still with him and all I can say is I did not ask for this, I do not deserve this, my kids did not deserve this, and I'm going to get what I need to survive before I leave. My kids are very aware now and are in no immediate danger, I am only married to him in the legal sense and Ill be damned if I'm going to give him the satisfaction of living in poverty while getting my degree. I don't sleep with him anymore, I am respulsed by him. In the mean time my kids have at least everything they need monetarily. By the time I leave him custody will no longer be an issue and I don't have to worry about my son being alone with him which was a major reason I decided to stay with him. There was no way I could ever allow my son to be alone with him, and the courts were prepared to do just that! I pray everyday for justice. I know someday it will arrive. |

| Comments: | I left my husband because of his alcoholism and anger escalating, and found out two months later that my daughter had been molested by my husband. I have a son (the oldest) and two daughters; my middle child was my husband's princess. The molesting had probably been going on since she was four or five, and she told me when she was six after being away from her father for a few weeks at his choosing. I filed for a restraining order, and my husband filed for a divorce. We are still in court proceedings haggling out parenting time, which as of this moment is still none. The report will be given to the DA's office at some point, but there is no guarantee they will press charges. As I have experienced, these situations are horrible in that the non-perpetrating parent has great difficulty in protecting their child/ren in our legal system. Thanks to people who have made false allegations for vengance, it makes the system even more difficult. It is my great desire to do something to help others who are experiencing this nightmare and to create a support group in my area for mothers of children who have been molested. It is my hope to have my daughter join me in doing something that would help support victims. It is also my prayer that every survivor out there finds strength to share their story that they may help others and raise awareness of the frequency that this traumatic crime seems to be occuring. | Comments: | I am now 40 years old and the mother of three. I have been married for just over 20 years. I have been in therapy for most of the past 16 years. I cannot imagine having my mom in my corner, then or now. After being sexually abused by my father from age 7 (give or take a year, it is a bit of a blur) up until his death at which time I was 18. I stopped eating, always had to be in control, never slept at normal times but---according to mom--all of this was my fault. It had nothing to do with how my dad treated me--after all, I was his 'favorite'. Years later when I had my first son, I started therapy. I had so much anger and hate inside that I was afraid I would hurt my son. Abuse and pain were the only types of affection that were ever used in my house so I was at a loss as my son grew past the infant stage. I decided to try to get "support" from my family. This is when I truly realized how they felt and where I fit into the picture. Since my dad was dead (my mom's family is Catholic), they felt that I should be praying him into Heaven. Not likely! They were upset with me for feeling that he deserved to spend an eternity in Hell just because of what he did to me---after all, it wasn't really a big deal---I suppose it depends on who you ask. I have not talked with my family in over 5 years for the most part except my one brother who lives far away. My family does not support my decision to tell my story but as more children came into our family I knew I had to stop the cycle. They may not speak to me but I feel better knowing that I may have stopped another child from going through what I did. I made them have to look in the mirror at themselves and ask themselves "Am I sexual predator/pedophile?" I hope and pray for all of our children to have a safe place to live in. I commend all you mothers who have supported your daughters during this long and difficult road to recovery. This will be a tremendous help to them now and later. My mom and extended family did not want to deal with my abuse as real. With the support of my husband and friends, I decided it was time to move on alone instead of allowing them to continue to make me feel like I was the one who had done something wrong. They want to guilt me into feeling that I am the one who destroyed the family--not dad--that actually I am worse than him because I told!! At times I wonder is it really worth it; then, i look at the many pictures of my children which is what gives me my strength to continue. With the love of God, my 'new' family, close friends, I will survive. If we all come out and tell our story, maybe we will touch enough lives to make a real difference. |

| Comments: | I was shocked to even think of a mother supporting her daughter who had been hurt. Truthfully, in all my years of therapy I've never heard of such a thing. Reading through the site I was surprised, in shock, almost disbelief that a parent would support their child and be a source of strength instead of a destructive force. It kind of makes me think that maybe not all mothers are dangerous people. It sheds a whole new light on abuse. My main sexual abuser was my mother so for me all mothers are monsters. but here I read that your mother set out not only to support you but to find a way to contact other mothers of abused children. She is right, you can find all sorts of stuff for survivors but for parents of survivors, well that's a different story. I personally never, ever thought of it. I've heard of friends of survivors and partners of survivors but never until today have I heard of or even considered that a parent would support their abused child let alone a mother. I guess I want to say thank you for both your efforts. This girl here, me, got an eye opener. I never even considered that there would be a need for support for the parents of survivors. My daughter is still suffering whilst the abuser's life goes on unimpeded and seemingly still thought of as the nice man/neighbour who helps people out with their cars and computers. |

People who have this disorder MPD/DID don’t switch like they show in the commercial. We find this commercial very demeaning and belittling. They have taken a serious disorder that is hard to live and made a joke of it on a National Commercial. We are in the process of trying to get Wendy’s Corporation to pull this commercial and possibly make a donation to NMHA for making fun of the Mentally Handicapped. We have the National Mental Health Association backing us in this pursuit. If you agree that no Corporation should be allowed to make fun of any disability then I hope that you will take the time to sign this petition and to pass it on to all your friends as well. We are both Overcomers because it is important to do more than SURVIVE, we have to go on living and are always Overcoming a new obstacle caused by the horrors inflicted on us as innocent children. I swore I would NEVER allow one of MY children to experience the horrors I lived through as a child; "NEVER would MY child have to deal with being raped".... but I have had to come to terms with the fact that we, as parents, cannot protect our children from everything and everyone. As a Male Survivor, he has more obstacles to overcome; namely, the Silence of being a MALE Survivor. He recently told me, "Mom, I look at 'that' as if it was a piece of wood with a big crack in it. I can leave the crack alone and eventually the crack would ruin the piece of wood and I would have to throw it away... OR, I can fill the crack, sand it smooth, and use that piece of wood to build something useful or something beautiful. It is my choice. The 'crack' will always be there but it doesn't have to destroy the piece of wood." I looked at my child and wondered, "Where in this world did he gain such wisdom." The SILENCE and IGNORANCE of others concerning Male Victims of Sexual Abuse is one of the more difficult issues we have dealt with. Being a female, I have no problem with telling my own story and most intelligent people would not automatically ASSume that I would be a Perp; but for males, it is much different and the ASSumption that all males who have been molested will become Perps is beyond my comprehension. My child is much more understanding of others differences, he is empathetic when another hurts, he is nonviolent (although there are times when I wish he would slug one of the bullies he deals with on a regular basis), and harming another human being is not a part of who he is. The stigma of IGNORANCE remains for Male Victims of Sexual Abuse. I love your site, which is why I have your link to my own. Thank you for all you do for others. I am a 53 year old male and at the age of 14 I was tied to a tree and raped by a "family friend". When I tried to tell my parents, I was told to stop lying and stop being a troublemaker because friends didn't do that to you. Some years later I got the courage to inform the Police but nothing ever happened about it. I have lived with it all my life and can only say two things, Firstly I am grateful that I met and married a wonderful understanding woman although she knew nothing of this for the first 28 years and secondly my four daughters have never had to suffer what so many suffer. I abhor child abuse in any form. The legal system needs to be changedto keep these monsters of the streets and away from our children. |

I take care of mothers of sexual assaulted children, most of the offenders being men, but of course, fathers are welcome if they have children abused by a stranger. Indeed, most of the children are assaulted by a member of his own family. The father, a brother, an uncle or a grand father. Unfortunately it is very difficult to bring it to the court especially if it is the father. Mothers are believed to invent the facts in order to have some advantages with their divorce. Specialists are not always so clever in this matter and the child can't speak on the moment the inquirer wants. Most of the children do not speak at all because they feel guilty as the abuser told them, under the menace for something very awful, such as killing a little dog or to do the same to a little sister or brother. Or killing the mother. I hope their will be support groups for mothers in all the cities because what abused children need most of all is some one who believes them, who trust them, who help them. | Comments: | My dream is as evil as the nightmares I have almost every night. I wish the man (peter harley) who is currently serving time, would just die. I say this because there are at least 30 boys, (young men now) including my own 3 sons who live in fear of the day he is released. If I can not have this dream then I wish he would serve the time given to him and not be allowed to ask for parole. He was sentenced to 23 years in all, but because of our pathetic law system he can get out after only 8 years and this time is here. He will attack children because he is a serial peadophile. |

| Comments: | Congratulations! I take care of mothers of seual assulted children, mist of the offenders being men, by of course, fathers are welcome if they have children abused by a stranger. Indeed, most of the chidlren are assulated by a member of his own family. The father, a brother, an uncle or a grand father. Unfortunately it is very difficult to bring it to the court especially if it is the father. Mothers are believed to invent the facts in order to have some advantages with ehr divorce. Specialist are not always so clever in this matter and the child can't speak on the moment the inquirer wants. Most of the children do not speak at all because they feel guilty as the as the abuser told them, under the menace for something very awful, such as killing a little dog or to do the same to a little sister or brother. Or killing the mother. I hope their will be support groups for mothers in all the cities because what abused children need most of all is somone who believe them, who trust them, who help them. I am 23 and I am a SURVIVOR of childhood sexual abuse by my "father." I read your story and I could not help but think of my awesome, amazing, wonderful, supportive mom, that I am so blessed to have. What you wrote, brought back memories of how my mom has shared with me how she felt when I was growing up, after we left him. She, like you, unconditionally loved me, even when I was going through such tough periods trying to push her away, (I felt I didn't deserve such safe true love, I realize now, though I do). She never gave up on me and I can not begin to express grand enough words to let you and ALL parents of SURVIVORS to KNOW how *MUCH* that meant to me, even if I did not admit to her at the time. I have now, I tell her over and over again thank you. I realize how lucky, blessed I am to have my mom -- she is beauty inside and out and is always here for me! I want ALL of you parents of SURVIVORS to KNOW how much I thank you and admire you for believing your children, not giving up on them even when you have felt at the end of your rope. The journey of healing is a process that takes you through some rocky roads, but where it leads you to is amazing. There IS light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for loving your children safely, for being there for them, supporting them. It is beautiful parents like you that help your children more than you can ever quite realize.
