| Comments: | I am just starting my autobiography and wanted to write about trips across the Humber on the 3 paddle steamers as a child. I was very pleased to find the photos and trust it is OK to use them in my family history. It was a big adventure to cross over to New Holland and spend the day there. As exciting as a foreign country. As a teenager we used to get on the train for a little way and then walk to Thornton Abbey. A very mysterious place and a great day out. Such nostalgia - the smells and sounds of the ferries! |

| Comments: | My grandfather worked for many years on the Wingfield Castle and ran the summer cruises to Spurn Point. I have vivid memories of the steam train to New Holland & the cold winds at the Pier, followed by a wait in the 'Saloon' for 'coaling'. The Bridge is awesome, but the ferries are unforgettable. |

| Comments: | During my family history research I have discovered that my great grandfather George Arthur Cutsforth was Captain of the ferry steamer between Hull and New Holland for several years, certainly in 1900 which would have made the steamer P.S. Grimsby. If any one has any information I would love to share it. |

| Comments: | As a child I traveled on the three castles as I lived in Notiingham and visitited my Aunt and uncle in hull several times a year. I always remember them and missed the trip when the bridge open . its nice that all three are still in use even though they no longer work. |

| Comments: | I worked on the Farringford in the summer of 1979 in the buffet when I was a student. It was hard work. We had some famous customers - John Alderton - he was very pleasant, and then the Nolans - not quite so pleasant. I remember blokes getting on the earliest morning ferry - about 6.30 am and drinking vodkas - we could serve them because licensing hours didn't apply at "sea"!
Well done on the site - it's brought back some memories. |
