I just want to say thanks to you and all the poets and songwriters and musicians we are blessed with in our little sandpile in the desert. While we stare down into the reeking maw of war waiting to devour a couple hundred thousand more souls for reasons foul and criminal, it helps to know that there are those who will still stand up and voice their conscience and reason, while others cannot, or will not. When the world is a stage sometimes people get lost in the lights. Blinded they then search for what they missed or forgot at that moment when their eyes wandered and fell on those thousand watt lights. This I have been told is a common problem for those actors that are new to the stage. And that's why there are things such as rehearsals. You get the young inexperienced actor tell him never look directly in the lights and above all else, just do it naturally. He of course does the complete opposite, so many times that eventually those who are around him, those who have become his family, distance themselves hoping that maybe he'll realize how to do it on his own. When that fateful day finally arrives...and he hears the words Opening night. Hopefully he realizes before that night, that he never does anything on his own... I love you Ted. You are my brother. I am sorry I abdandoned you. I've made so many mistakes and the consequences weren't always mine alone. I found my niche with you and others in Joshua Tree. The dessert has a way of weeding out the bad one's from what I've heard. Sometimes I lie awake at night I wonder what would have happened if the Cafe wouldn't have closed, and it had just opened for years upon years...and I remained the Manager at $6.75 an hour. I would have been content, completely and utterly, I tell myself. I wouldn't have seen anywhere else, I wouldn't have tried for anything else. Are being content and happy two different things? Maybe I just needed to find more of myself. Or maybe it was not my time to be content. |

Ted, were you supposed to pick me up for a Green party organization meeting some time before the 2000 election? It's been too many years since "I Wish I Could Say;" the last time I saw you, you handed me a cassette with three different mixes. Which one made it onto "Paintbox"? I'll just have to buy it to find out. I know Ministry of Fools recorded "Citizens of the World" - why isn't that one on "Paintbox" or did you re-title it? Speaking of "Citizens," just last week I dug out the Telekin cassettes and burned myself a 20-song CD before they deteriorate any further. Want a copy?
