Have seen you twice at the Loch Lomond Highland Games/Festival in Ben Lomond, CA while visiting with my good friends Jan and Vinny in Soquel. I really enjoyed your Celtic music plus the explanation of the songs and instruments. My ethnic heritage is Irish/Scottish, so I felt a connection to many of the songs. I just checked your tour dates, hoping to see you here on the east coast. The Philadephia Folk Festival looks very promising! (It's less than 3 hours from my home in northwest New Jersey!!) I'd rather see you again in Ben Lomond, but half to wait until 2009 to go again. Inspired by (and while listening to) your music, I am now doing Celtic design watercolor art. Thanks for the Celtic vibes and keep up the great music (and heritage)!

From Michael's violin virtuosity to Adolfo's living percussion, and the whole groups integration and synergy (and energy). It had everybody rockin! I was amazed to see the diversity of your fans, 4 year olds in front of the stage boogying down to a lot of older folks in back of the crowd getting into it. My friends wanted to see some of the heavy events at the stadium, and even over there folks were rockin to your music ( yes we could hear it that far away). | Comments: | What fun! Just returned from show in Yreka. (Yes Lief, it's quite a bit different than Eureka) Well, as I approached to purchased a CD I asked how I was to pick just one. I was told by someone whose doesn't normally spend his valuable time at the murchandise table (you know who you are)that they are basically all the same. Not so! As I drove home the music following the folk song Journeyman nearly put me in a trance. But you may still be right. Maybe there is a song on every CD that would have thae same affect. | Comments: | The pre-St. Patty's Day show at Club Fred this year was the finest Tempest show I've seen (followed closely by the Bastille show in 1993).
The current lineup is incredible. Michael Mullen, as always, was awesome. Damien, your Bass was excellent! James' guitar work was spot-on to my ears, and certainly stands up among the best guitarists Tempest has had. Of course Adolfo's and Lief's instrumental work (and Lief's vocals) were absolutely wonderful. Thank you guys for a show that has outdone the high quality I've come to expect from Tempest. |

| Comments: | The new lineup is terrific! Saw you last night in Felton, and it's the most I've enjoyed you in years. (You'd recognise me; I've been showing up off and on since 1990.) The particular lineup at any given time has always made a decisive difference in how I felt about Tempests's music, and while the prior crew was working pretty well for me, the "new kids" make me more excited about Tempest's immediate future than I can ever recall feeling. Granted, I'm somewhat biased; Damien is a friend and a former student. But he fits in marvellously, and if I hadn't known he was new... I wouldn't have known he was new. I'm a sucker for complex bass lines, and his sense of where to keep it simple and where to get busy has given me a fresh respect for his musicianship. (Hi, Damien.) And the new guitarist is a superb choice as well, and since I don't know him from Adam (can't even recall his name as yet), you can figure a bias-free call there. He provides something I feel you've lacked for ...hmm: well, forever, I think. He has a solid understanding of British traditional music at his fingertips, underneath all the electrical pyrotechnics. And I really liked what he was doing with those as well, I might add. He played some unexpected runs that startled, but always pleased, my ear. These two lads fill out and develop the aspects of your material I have always liked best. A fine show. I look forward to many more. |
