Comments:Nice page, very helpful reference. Unfortunately I can't see in Firefox the correct Greek lettering. Fully Greek ads are correctly displayed, but the "Greek names" (e.g. "Achlys") are shown as coded in the source code, not in Greek (in IE 8 they are correctly shown). Any ideas?

Regards from Germany,

Bernd

Your energy and dedication for such an undertaking is commendable.

I, however, as a cartographer by trade would love to see map(s) of the areas concerned within the Greek mythology realm.

I return often to read more. I finished reading the "Iliad", The "Odyssey" by Homer, as well as Virgil's "Aeneids" and found your site a great "companion".

Its just an interesting picture to go along with the origins of the word cetacean.
Let me know if you can give permission for the use of the photo and if so who I should credit. If you are unable to give permission can you direct me to someone who can?

Even as I was saying this, I started searching online, and a few click later, I came across Theoi.com! Perfect! Thanks!

(p.s. Minor point: you have a small typo in a few places: you write "reccommend" when it should be "recommend." It's unimportant and does not in any way diminish the value of your effort, and I am certainly not trying to be fussy or critical in pointing it out -- I just think that you may like to know so you can correct it.)

Comments:Hello. I am honored to read the wealth of information here on this site. It is very insightful to me and getting this sheer amount of infomation all in one convenient place is hard to find on all forms of mythology, which I am most certainly interested in especially of Norse, Folklore, Deity, and Creation myth and will help in further comprehensive research.

The motive behind the sharing of this information is fantastic and it is a great thing to have conceived. Thank you and many blessings to you.

Comments:I'm currently hard at work on the first two volumes of a twelve book graphic novel series retelling the Greek myths, to be published First Second and the Roaring Brook Press, and this website has been an invaluable resource.

I note that it has apparently not been updated for some time, and as such I'm not sure if the architect(s) of this page still drop by to keep an eye on things-- if so, I'd love for you to take a peek at some works in progress at geooco.blogspot.com, and identify yourselves-- I'd love to give you a credit in the books.

Thanks for the great website.

Comments:I am a playwright living in Port Townsend, Washington. Another playwright in Port Townsend asked me to co-produce with her a matinee of staged readings of 10 minute plays or monologues by seven women playwrights, if we got a grant from the group—The International Center for Women Playwrights. Well, we got the grant and are going to ask for donations at the door, (suggested donation--$10.00—but people can give more or less) and then the proceeds (after some direct costs) will go to the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault shelter in Port Townsend. The event would be part of Women’s History Month, and the date would be March 15th (the Ides of March!). The theme is “Here, There, and Everywhere”—“here” are playwrights from Port Townsend; “there” are 2-3 women from the rest of Washington and the United States; and then “everywhere” would be 2-3 female playwrights located in other countries.

I want to use one of the images from "Dreambook" for a flyer. How can I get permission to do so?
Thank you, Judith Glass Collins

It helps me to understand more about Greek Mythology.
I also love to read about it.
Especially when i hear about ALL of Zeus'
love affairs. And of course about ALL of the children
he's had. Also when Hera gets jealous and try's to kill
Zeus. All-in-all, Greek Mythology is most definitely
one of the most interesting things I have read about.

Comments:Hello Aaron J. Atsma,

I've been a close follower of your project since its early years. I love your website, it's amazing and I always visit often.

Just a proposition: it would be better if you used present tense while writing about the various Gods and concepts they stand for. For example the Moirai (or Moirae) were not the goddesses of fate, they ARE. They did not personify, they do personify the destiny etc... Zeus was not their leader. Zeus IS their leader. And so on...

These concepts are eternal, unchanging, everlasting. There is no 'was' or 'will be'. Only 'IS'.

Great site - really excellent.

Only thing is, I can't find how to contact you.

For example, I found a small type: on the Orion page, the reference to the Illiad should be 18.483, not 18.43

It's a small thing, I know - but your site is close to perfect - I'd like to help get it even closer!

For the Themis page, the Cult of Themis section:

She was also worshipped at Rhamnous. In
A Reconstruction of the Temple of Nemesis at Rhamnous.
Margaret M. Miles. Hesperia, Vol. 58, No. 2 (1989), p. 139
it is written:

"Nemesis shared her sanctuary with the goddess Themis. A small Archaic temple, almost certainly dedicated to Themis, stands next to the Temple of Nemesis. ... at Rhamnous, where more dedications to her [Themis] have been found than in any other place, she is associated with Nemesis."

The same article also mentions that Pausanias saw a temple of Themis at Patras (VII.20.9).

Comments:I teach mythology courses with most of my students being more or less unfamiliar with Greek culture. One of my goals in these courses is to encourage the students to look at the primary sources and see how the gods emerge from their own cluture(s) rather than relying on the views that have calcified in the mainstream tradition. This site enables them to use the primary sources easily and to come to an understanding of how the sources work with an against each other to form a multifaceted appreciation of complex and varied deities. I assign reading materials from this site and you have made possible classroom exercises such as comparing the different cults of (say) Artemis in different parts of Greece, or examining different traditions of her relationships with humans, each student taking one part and the whole emerging through discussion. I don't see how this would be possible without your site. So keep up the good work, and thank you.
