Joseph McCarthy was a U.S. Senator, and he had nothing to do with HUAC (HOUSE Un-American Activities Committee). His hearings revolved around real security concerns involving the State Department, which was riddled with Soviet spies, and the Army, not Hollywood. McCarthy's concerns arose after the convictions of Alger Hiss and Klaus Fuchs, and had nothing to do with Hollywood. |

| Comments: | It was a fine thing you did, putting the time into this website. You've helped an all-volunteer street performer contingent improve their contribution to an annual Dickens Festival. We were tasked with bringing some atmosphere of mid-19th C London to the streets of Port Jefferson, Long Island, New York. Both are great (great big/great little) harbors with a lot of history, so your site is very useful for background. It all feels so correct that I'm taking what you've written as historically accurate, bible truth. I started corresponding with Steve way back in 1998 and he used to send me poems and I used to say I wanted more and he would say that the next poems were for "Oliver". I don't really know what to say except the world is now a lot sadder place without him. |

I enjoyed your thought provoking article on the blacklist! I am an independent producer/director here in Los Angeles. At the moment, i am trying to raise money to doa feature documentary on my dear friend, the actress Marsha Hunt. I read with interest the part of the article that talked about the press conferences that the Committee did in Kansas City & other cities. The press conferecne in Kansas City is of great importance to my project as I've been told that marsha made an impassioned speech about their trip to washington. I've had trouble finding audio of the press conferecne or even newspaper articles ( The Kansas City paper apparently was conservative). if you know anyone who might know where I could find audio of radio broadcasts of any of these press conferecnes - or articles, I'd be most grateful. Pat Sutton is a friend of mine too. I was a school teacher in the U.S. Catherine called Birdie is a novel about medieval England (1400s). It is a novel for junior high students. Catherine is the main character. While she goes through crises and the plot develops, students learn about that period. It is a fun and funny book for teenagers. Pat thought your grandson George would like it. This is an entertaining site. |

| Comments: | Apes of Gibraltar,introduced in the siege years.In 1940 or so less than 10, winstonI churchill demanded that the british would not leave gibraltar as long as the apes were there and commanded their protection hence more were flown in from north africa and an officer and soldier seconded to the apes, for well being and development.
Cant understand why gib websites do not know this. I know because my dad was the soldier, he developed the groweth of the two packs as in the 50s and was the apekeeper for nearly 20 years. |
