B, 2nd Plt yearbook, but oddly, it does not have a graduating date in it. Our graduating class was one of the last WAC cycles. Does anyone know the date of the last WAC basic training cycle? | Comments: | I had basic training at Ft. Anniston in the fall of '72. For Thanksgiving the officers served a beautiful meal in their dress blues. That night half of our company became ill and some were hospitalized with food poisoning! Does anyone out there remember that? My maiden name was Engel and I was in Co. Echo (echo echo :-) We graduated in time to take a Christmas break. If Kathaleen McIntire is out there, I still want my pictures back from basic training that I mailed you! I don't have any pictures from those days. Other names I remember are Chris Delgado and Sandra from Idaho. Sandra,I and another gal whose last name was Green all were sent to Ft. Polk for cook school. When we got there, we were told there was no WAC cook school, and I was asked if I wanted to go to clerk typist class...thank God! Pvt. Green came up next with a guarantee for cook, and a WAC cook school was opened! I lucked out on that one by better alphbetical placement. I still don't want to cook:-) I would love to hear from others. |

| Comments: | Hello Female Veterans who took the time to create this webpage and allow me to have an opportunity to write in your dream book while I search for a copy of my basic training book from Fort Jackson, S.C. of Bravo-10-2. I am one of those young women who came after you all in the WAC Corps and collectively disseminated it when we were the second set of females to first trained with the men. We had to learned how to shoot weapons, grenades, go to the gas chamber, etc, etc starting Sept. 1978 and marched on graduation day as number 12 out of 49 women in our unit from the 2d Battalion. Please somebody help me find this book or the females from this unit. Who wouldn't mind producing a duplicate copy of this book. We made so much history, I want to passed it along to my family. I'm over fifty now, but I don't look it. I'm so glad to be alive! I managed to get to 16 years in the Army. Eight years active duty time, and Eight years for the Army Reserves. To me, the Army Reserves is too incompetent, nasty, and lack training ethics to be leaders. Because of the Sexual Harassment, I was not able to finish my 20 years and retired like most of my comrades, after all I did to contribute from the rear as Administrative Specialist, and running all those miles, up hill misery and down Agony. Reading regulations to conduct special events for the children and families that were on orders for Deployment after 9/11. And still, I believe that there is God that will allow me to retire and receive my G.I. Bill for Education.

| Comments: | I was at Fort McClellan in October and November 1974 in Charlie Company. I remember Kathy Murphy, Kathy Johnson, and Bonnie Landry and Rhonda Funston. I have pictures of "God's Aisle" and a bunch of us after the BIG inspection. We had the best drill sergeant (I think her last name was Collier). The PX and chapel were nearby. So many fun memories. Most stressful were the inspections. Best weather!! Great food! Great people! Never went to Anniston---did not hear good things. Loved the library! |

I was a WAC who took basic training at Ft Mac in November '73. Can't remember the company or platoon. Can't remember the SGT, but the CPL was CPL Klegg. There was a girl who used to sing before going to sleep. She sang, "Flower child, growing wild... even though you're living on a compost pile, you're a friend of mine." I then had AIT clerical FT Dix, Court Reporting Legal Training, Naval Base, Newport, RI, and completed permanent party in Ansbach, Germany HHC, as a SP4 in the Staff Judge Advocate's Office under LTC Andrews, concluding my military career in 1976. Currently married to a wonderful man; we have 2 grown son who have increased our family with a grandson and 1granddaughter. | Comments: | I entered basic at Ft. McClellan on August 28, 1972. I'm looking for anyone I served with who will remember our company, platoon, and drill sargeant. Our plane was diverted on the way to Anniston and we had to take a bus from somewhere (forget where) in the middle of the night. Our luggage was lost. By the time we got to bed it was about 3 AM and the drill sgt. came into our room and woke us up at five. Had to put on our same clothes as the day before and line up outside in the dark. Made me wonder what the heck I was doing there! Two of the girls I was with were Debra Nolan and Diana St. Amant. |

I stayed in the military for 20 years. I was stationed at Ft Belvoir, Bragg and Dix. I was assigned to AFCENT and Monteith barracks overseas. I truly enjoyed the military and I am very grateful to my parents for allowing me to join. (needed permission then, even when I re-enlisted the first time). Remember those days. I retired after 20 years, and still live in the military "community" |
