| Comments: | My father - James H. Lofstedt - worked as a sheet metal worker all his life. Dad passed away five years ago and at his wake alot of his old buddies from the union came to bid Dad farewell. The men who came all talked about my dad with fond memories and details of the old days that included when Dad worked on the World Trade Center. They told me that there is a photo out there of my Dad hanging over the River in a "bucket" while working on the towers. Anybody out there that can give me more information - I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me. My Dad was known as a hard worker - called "Chief" - and a man who you wanted to work with not necessarily for. Please if anyone remembers - help me with his legacy. |

| Comments: | I can remember it like it was yesterday, but it was in fact a warm day in June 1948 when the Secretary of L.U.#28, Mr Mell Farrell told me to report to Imperial S.M. Works on Front Street, NYC to begin my apprenticeship for the total sum of $1.10 per hour. There was no vacation pay, no health benefit plan, no annuity and no pension. When you worked you got paid. If I paid attention and kept my mouth shut and learned the trade, after 4 years I could make journeyman's pay of $2.75 an hour, which was a good salary at those times.
I also remember that morning coffee and a roll was $0.25, the subway was a nickel, and we would stop on the way to the subway for a chocolate malted milk, which cost .15 cents. Times were tough but we seemed to manage. |

| Comments: | I first met Mr Andrucki in person in the hallways of New york Institute of Technology Manhattan campus in the late 1980's. We were both students there @ that time. We quickly became friends and soon thereafter I learned what a committed unionists this giant of a man was. I followed him to several picket lines seeking jurisdiction for our local #28 family. Famous for his toothpicks and historics of men before us. This man has created a legacy for all to follow. His committment, sincerety and honesty in the way he performed union business is unquestionally an example for the masses.
Great work George. I enjoyed reading the reading. |

| Comments: | Hey George, that was a terriffic read! Being a history buff I really enjoyed it...Do you remember when we first met? I was about 17(1975)working with Jack Weider in Bklyn and you said "Hey you,You got a union card?" And me being the way I was back then came down (with all my attitude)and showed you a Local400 card (what did I know, back then). You looked at it and went "NICKY'S KID!..Then I knew I was in some kind of trouble..That night when I told the old man he went nuts & allmost made me quit my job..I will always remember & respect the way you handeled that George, giving the political climate at that time.Love you George...Nicky Jr. |

| Comments: | My Great Great Grandfather (Alfred Fauvell) was a Tinsmith by trade in New York during the later part of the 1800's. I was interested in finding out more about the type of work he might have been involved with or if he was registered and an active member of a union in New York.
The site was excellent and provided a some great insight into the art and profession of Tinsmithing. Regards, Mike Fauvell |
