| Comments: | I am creating a business plan designed to teach inner city youth the building restoration trades. The location is Cleveland, Ohio. The high school graduation rate here is 28%, and we have won the distinction of having the highest rate of poverty in the nation. I want to pay students a competitive wage while they learn the skills involved in the rehab process of homes in their own neighborhoods. Successful students will receive matching funds for the purchase of their first home. While so few graduate from High School, I expect life skill training to be first on the agenda, and the actual project to be a tool to reach as many of these young people as possible. I hope to create enough interest and talent among these young poeple that they will become teachers themselves and interest their friends in the venture. Each successful student can become a center of influence to duplicate the process and turn depressed housing owned by absentee landlords,and cities into single family homes. The hope is to rebuild communities of home owners, and quality rentals. This may not seem to you to have much to do with school violence, but it does. Pride of ownership, life skills, a job, raising the level of self esteem among 4th generation welfare recipiants, can have a lot to do with ending a bad situation in the Cleveland Schools. My guess is that if it works here, it can work anywhere. Wish me luck... |

| Comments: | I've just had first hand experience with school violence. My quiet son has be name calling in school and online. He finally was beaten up. His fight was one of many that week. The local police are at the building on a daily basis. We located in the beautiful "Hamptons". I'm waiting for the local paper to disclose this fact and I am going to the next Board of Ed. meeting and try to put a focus on it. Try to get the community involved. Thanks!! was only nine her name was Vannass Yonts, she was a great singer, dancer, and she loved to be annoying. I miss everything about her, I remembe how she smelled, what she was wearing, and even the last thing we said to her " have a great day at school." I think that each of those assholes that commite these stupid crimes should die slowly. I don't agree with everything that you say on your website, but it's just my opinion. Thanks for listening. The only reason I did this was for my little sister who I will never forget. She will always be in my heart and soul. |

often I have heard about the crime in American schools from the media. I think tonight I heard from my mother that there was again a shooting in one American school today. Though the situation in Malaysian school is not as serious, there is still occasionally the happenings of vandalism in school, vandilising teachers' cars and even the burning of school by some stubborn students. We all have to put in effort to improve the situation--the parents corporate with the school, with the govt also puts more attention on the education and youth problems, instead of spending billions of dollars on the NMD which is to me an empty shell. I totally support your teaching career as well as your effort in increasing the awareness of people about the crime in schools. Continue to work hard! All the best! |

4 year old daughter and I am really scared for her future in her education. I really do not have a clue as to what to do about it. It is really scary, and everyone wonders why test scores are so low, kids are more worried about who's going to beat them up or shoot them in the middle of class, and thats not right. We as parents need to do something about it, take more time with the kids get involved with their lives and show them that violence isn't the answer to anything.
