| Comments: | Bought the New Hearts cd a couple of weeks ago, not stopped playing it since. A great insight into the early talents of Messer’s Page and Cairns. The recordings sound great, stand out tracks for me Love’s Just a Word, (how punky does “City Life” and “I Could Be You” sound?) Blood On The Knife, Revolution, great version of Madmen, Only a Fool, Paradise On Summer Nights.....I could go on.
A must for all SA fans. Hope to see you live again soon. Mobb... |

Anyway, i wont be with jackie and susan on the night sadly as that would have been a real blast from the past, but i will be there with friends who also saw secret affair 30 years back.
see you all soon xxxx |

Can you help solve an argument? A mate swears blind he saw the band play in London's Venue in June '82 but hadn't the Affair split by then? When did the band finish and wasn't Dennis the first to jump ship? I was out of the country that summer and came back to find my fave band was no more... |

| Comments: | Absolutely f*ckin' awesome gig in the toon last night. The boys were well up for it, especially Cairnsey coming to the front along with Ian for their staggered solos. What a homeward run too, thru Glory Boys, My World, Time for Action and to finish with I'm Not Free.. well what can you say. Only disappointment for me was not getting my copy of my Glory Boys LP signed by the boys as I had to leave the after gig party at around 1230 coz one of my kids wasn't too well. Is there any chance - grovel, grovel please Tracey - that I could post my LP to you (I'll happily cover the P & P) and get you to pass it to Ian and Dave to do the business please?. I'd waited 30 years for the boys to play Newcastle and get this album signed (I bought it in '79 when I was just 11 and now I'm 41)so hopefully you can oblige.
Kind regards and keep the faith!, Sean Kilminster |

Is there anyway that as the new album is not ready yet that you could add Get Carter, No Doctor and Nowhere to Run to the CD, I think they are a fantastic addition to the set list and it would be the only way to here these great tunes in the car on the way to work apart from poor quality ones on You Tube it wouldnt matter if they were studio and not live as long as we could here them. Any Thoughts Cheers Graeme |

| Comments: | Just so excited - I'm like a little kid again (and I'm almost 42!!) - going to see the boys in Newcastle next Sat night and its like I'm 12 again and wagging off school to see Secret Affair last time they came to Newcastle and being slung out of the soundcheck by a miserable t**t of a "bouncer" for wanting the band to sign my Glory Boys album. Have tickets to the aftershow party next week so will finally snare Ian and Dave for their monikers on said album, albeit 30 years later, now thats what I call dedication. Any mods coming to the Newcastle gig next week make your way to the Crows Nest pub, opposite the Civic Centre for a pre gig drink and chat. Big hi to Ash from Mapped Out for DJ'ing the gig, hope to see you for a beer next week brother!!

| Comments: | In my defence I was only ststing that I didn't feel this type of festival( where it was a 4 day ticket or nothing at all) was likely to appeal to those of us who only wanted to see 1 or 2 bands.
I am from Brighton so to be able to attend the 1 day of interest for me would have been great but I was informed by the ticket outlets that you had to buy all 4 days which to me is ridiculous. Yes viewed on a day for day cost basis £25 is great value and I would have gone for it if a £25 ticket was available. Re the venues in Brighton I think the Concorde 2 would be an ideal venue for Secret Affair (not too big, not too small) and would be comfortably full (presuming a few of the London fraternity made the short trip down). Yes the Astoria was packed in 2008 but I was a little disappointed with the attendance at The Camden Centre which was only aboy 2/3 full max. I personally do not feel that mainstream festivals are the kind of events that suit SA as the quality of their music would go way above the heads of the majority of those attending (many probably would not even bother giving them a chance). These are only my opinions but isn't that what the guestbook is all about!!!! |

| Comments: | Step-Are you mad?Yet again your comments are misinformed and make you look like an idiot.
There were plenty of mods going down for this festival,I for one was going with a large group for the ride down from London to Brighton to see Ocean Colour Scene,Prince Buster and primarily Secret Affair.I had friends taking coaches down from Manchester for this who will not get refunds. To suggest that Secret Affair should be playing pub venues of 125 capacity is hilarious.Compating SA to LTS is frankly an insult to the band and shows you have no concept of the fanbase site mate.E.g.try and get tickets for Bridlington scooter rally mate! Jeez |
| Name: | Tony Warren |
| Comments: | I live in the Brighton area and was really looking forward to the whole Beachdown festival but in particular seeing Ocean Colour Scene, Prince Buster & Secret Affair on the same bill. You couldn't even get to see that kind of line-up at a major concert hall so it's only at a festival you are gonna see it.
I think some people have got the old 'Mod blinkers' on and why shouldn't Secret Affair play some mainstream events instead of an ever declining mod crowd anyway? Maybe next year guys or at your next London show! Tony |
| Name: | Paul Wake |
| E-mail address: | pjwake@msn.com |
| Comments: | Its a shame the Beachdown did`nt happen as I think there was plenty of Mod influenced bands on the bill...ie Ocean Colour Scene, James Hunter,a great hammond band called the Fantastics, not forgetting Prince Buster!!!...plus Fellas ..be a bit open minded..!check out `Lack of Afro` who were another one of many great bands booked {not forgetting some great DJ`s]..I think 25.00 quid a day for such an interesting line up would have been fantastic value..[ it`ll cost Ya 50 notes to see crap like Oasis at Wembley |
| Name: | step |
| Comments: | Have to say I was not surprised re the demise of the Brighton BeachDown festival.
I ' ve said before that in these hard times £97 to see possibly only a couple of bands you like is too steep!! ~This was never going to be a very well attended gig for SA as no other bands on the bill would have appealed to the MOD fraternity.A good one to avoid. How about the band getting down to play a sizeable club venue in Brighton as that would be a real success. The New Music venue in Kemp town is a great intimate venue (capacity about 125) and was played recently by LTS. Just ask tony about this place. A bigger venue such as the Concorde 2 is also woth considering. Cheers Step. |

| Comments: | oops...you asked for some good news!
Well a great independent company called Cherry Red are very close to signing off on a compilation of Secret Affair's precursor - New Hearts. It will be a 20+ track cd of everything that Dave and I did before we formed Secret Affair. Its a bit punky powerpop...(good grief I was only 17) but should be a nice slice of history if you're into Secret Affair. Dave and I optimistically hope it will be out by the end of October. No promises, mind you...but it will be released this year I'm sure. KTF Ian |
| Name: | Ian Page |
| Comments: | ...and to make things worse...the live CD of our Show at the Astoria is all mixed, finished and ready to go. I'm usually quite critical of what we do (ask the poor fellas in the band who have to put up with me) But I have to say...the Live at the Astoria recording is really, really good. We just can't find someone to distribute it for us yet. This year has seen some hard times for the music industry, and though most of the feckers deserve it..its small bands like ours that suffer. God knows how hard it must be for new bands just getting started. Live music really is the only thing still going strong.

Will finally get my copy of Glory Boys signed by the main men, albeit 30 years after I should have done, and you can rest assured that as soon as its signed its getting framed!! AC/DC? Angus Young is one of the most amazing rock/bIues guitar pIayers of aII time. When I worked for Gibson Guitars thru the '90s I got to see and work with the great man with AC/DC from Hong Kong, Paris to WembIey Arena. He aImost invented the rock and roII guitar riffs known to us today within the AC/DC act on a Gibson SG. Top man and top guitarist. Thank you for buying into to not one but two SA shows. After a fantastic night last weekend which i took my wife and 15 year old daughter i got back to our hotel room and like a child rushed to have a look at the pictures i had taken as i was like David Bailey on speed all night only to find that the flash had f****d up and i had nothing to show for my efforts. Will you be putting any pictures on the web site as i saw yer man all suited and booted taking snaps inside and outside the gig as i would love some sort of momento of the night. Cheers Graeme P.S Loved Ride and the theme from Get Carter |

| Comments: | Like everone else on here me and my two sons had a fantastic time last saturday, even tho' the sound wasn't as good as the Astoria for me it was a better gig.
It was certainly worth the journey from Edinburgh - even managed to have a good blether with Dave and Andy at Eddie Pillar's after show gig at the Barfly in Camden. (top tunes BTW Eddie). To finish a fantastic weekend off, we spent all day in Brighton on the Sunday to celebrate my son's 20th birthday before getting the last train back to London. To Ian and the boys - see you'se all in Newcastle on the 3rd October. PS: Tracey x |

Still can't come to terms with why you weren't bigger. Haven't stopped listening to your music since the early eighties. Keep it up a truly fantastic gig. |

| Comments: | Regarding Ian's comments about nostalgia, I hope this is the case and the band keep gigging as often as they can.
Glory Boys ranks as the best debut album of any band (Jam, Clash, Oasis)I've listened to. I still can't believe 30 years on how the press managed to manipulate the whole 'Mod revival' thing in the early 80's and, in my humble opinon, took down a band with huge potential. Anyway, best not to dwell on the past, only makes you angry. Hope to see you guys in Scotland soon. Once again, thanks for a great night and apologies for comparing Dave's (state of mind) with Susan Boyle. Peem. |

What a night, got the tckets for my 40th and I certainly felt 40 on Monday. Another happy Edinburgh Mod, ktf Sean |

I travelled down from Keith (north of Aberdeen) for the weekend and after 30 years finally got to see Secret Affair in the flesh. Really enjoyed the show. | Comments: | Dear Willie,
Firstly, do not go to see us playing in Campden which is, I believe in a particularly picturesque part of the Gloucestershire Cotswolds. (Ideal for a visit to Blenheim Palace, which I'd recommend) But not of much use to see Secret Affair who are playing in Kings Cross, London at a Venue called the Camden Centre. Its opposite St Pancras Station. Secondly, the venue will remain open late after our gig, at least until 2 I reckon unless loads of you stay later. Don't know about pre drinks. The venue's really nice and we have cool DJ's so why don't you walk straight out of the station and into the venue and avoid all possible hassle? Like getting lost in Chipping wotsit, or something? |
