| Comments: | Congratulations on a well done post! I really enjoyed reading your findings. I am particularly interested as my paternal grandmother was a Treadway from the Erwin, TN area. Her name was Virgie Isabella (Treadway) Dent. She married my grandfather, Alvin Weldie Dent (a northerner) in the late 1890s while he worked for his uncle who was a boss at a large sawmill in that area. Due to the fact that she married a "northerner" and rarely spoke of her family, I do not know very much about her. Her father was Charles Quillen Treadway and her mother was Mariah (White) Treadway. That is about all I know of her. If you run across any information I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks very much. |

Your site turned up in a search I was doing for my own family history, and I just wanted to point out a factual discrepancy contained in the oral history you've posted regarding "Davy" Crockett. If the wrestling contest you're referring to between your ancestor and the "Davy" Crockett who died fighting in the Alamo occurred in 1833, then Davy would have been 47 years of age, not 40 as stated. Anyway, again, I'm not throwing stones here, nor doubting the veracity of your family's oral history at all. Just thought I'd point out the error in the facts as they've been stated.

| Comments: | Hello - viewing your lineage took me to some of my lineage. #8 Susanna Catherine Treadway was my great grand-father's mother. He is one of the sons listed as James Marion Ramsey; however, his date of death of 1936 is incorrect. Someone from a site noticed this error in an obituary and I know it to be incorrect because my father, Lawrence Elseworth Jones was born in 1935 and he knew his grandfather well. My grandmother, Mary Katherine Ramsey was my father's mother. The correct date of death should be listed as 1963 for James Marion Ramsey. You said in your foreword that some info had not been confirmed so I thought you may want to make the change. Thank You! |

| Comments: | I came upon your site while I was beginning to do some research on my mother's birthplace, Agatite, Texas. When she died in 1995 I was told by her best friend that there were only four people living who had been born in Agatite, two men, Mary Fern Mendenhall (married name) and her sister. I have lost track of Mary Fern so I'm not able to follow up on this information. She also indicated that the town was gone and that nothing remained. My mother's maiden name was Harty. If you have any information on the town or how to contact anyone who may still be living from that town I would appreciate the response.

I was able to go even further to trace it back on the paternal side all the way to Nathaniel Treadway who was born in England in 1605 and settled at the Mass. Bay colony in 1635. My line traces back to Aaron Treadway and Priscilla in Walnut North Carolina. I have been reading everything that I can get my hands on about the history of the area including the Civil War years in Madison, County. I have been trying to learn more about the 2nd and 3rd North Carolina Mounted Infantry. I understand that John Nelson Treadway fought with the regiment.
