| Comments: | Hi - my name is Karyn Ann (Salisbury) Bosso. I used to know the "Abbey Tavern" Beau Brummels way back many years ago (oops did I say Wayback, as in Peter Tucker's band, the Waybacks - hmmmm....) anyway, I just wondered what ever happened to all the guys who played with Declan Mulligan back in the 80's when they were the house band at San Francisco's Abbey Tavern on Geary and 5th Ave. That would have been Jimmy Moyles, Peter Tucker and I think that they had a guy named John and another guy named Don playing with them too. Just wondering what ever happened to Jimmy - and wondering if Peter is still playing with the Waybacks. The last time I saw Peter and Mary - was in 2001 I think, at the Levon Helm show at Biscuits and Blues.
I used to hang out at the Abbey - it was the first bar I ever went into - I was 18 then - and I went there all through the 70's and 80's and was usually dancing while you guys were playing. Somebody on one of the message boards mentioned a Beau Brummels gig in Palo Alto way back in 1984 - when they opened for the Dinosaurs, I was there - I was then dating a guy named Steve Kingsley (big tall redhaired hippie dude who owned a record store on Geary and 18th Ave) "Hippie Steve" - anyway, if any of the guys know if he's still alive, I'd be interested to know. Thanks again, Karyn Ann (Salisbury) Bosso |

| Comments: | Have always been a huge fan. My band did several BB songs. Yes we even recorded Still in love with you, baby and Don't talk to strangers in 1967 at Falcon Records in Michigan. As the lead singer I did pattern my style after Sal(immulate the best right?). Funny story===I asked my girlfriend at the time if she liked my singing..She replied "Well, You're no Sal Valentino!" haha. I got to see Sal and the boys twice. Once at a High School and once at a small club, both in 1966. At the club I was with my lead guitarist and another friend. I asked Sal for an autograph when the set was done, he looked at me quizically and shook his head ok. When they finished they rushed off stage and out the back door to a car that brisked them off to the airport. While my buds and I stood there waiting patiently for the autograph that never came.
The security guard said "OH, they'll be out in a few minutes to sign auto's". After 30 minutes we realized we had been had and left. My brief encounter with greatness...haha. Sal..I'm still waiting...:) I have continued to follow them through the Stoneground years..the '75 album and all the session cd's. I even located Alligator Man on the net. Unable to find 'Triangle' and Bradley's Barn on CD I recorded them from my albums onto CD. Now I can still listen to the Beau's while driving to work. Well, If any of the BB's ever log on to this site just remember "I'm still in love with your music, baby!" take care and God Bless you all... |

I attended UC Davis in the 70's and took guitar lessons from a guy that claimed to be the guitar player for the BB but those were foggy years and i can't remember his name. Anyone with any knowledge of these events I would like to hear from you. Thanks. |

| Comments: | Joey Hornick.........great guy! I wonder what became of him. Last time I spoke to him was around 1993, when Sal and I were working out of Reno. He sent me a copy of your tape back in the '80s, and I really liked it. I remember Joey pointing out why the crowd was cheering during Declan's harmonica solo. Declan always seems to have things like that happening to him on stage! Always good for a laugh.
Glad you pointed out "Melody". The song was a regular staple of our live performances, and always one of the most well-received, popular. A shame it's never been officially recorded. We were playing it at The Boarding House in San Francisco one night, around 1980, and the late Lou Gottlieb (partners with Glen Yarborough and Alex Hassilev, in The Limelighters folk music group) introduced himself, and said, "That song is a HIT!", and I always thought he was right! Sadly, it never made it's way to vinyl. Ron Elliott re-wrote it later on, with Butch Engle, as "Moonlight Melody", but I always preferred the original. Lovely song! |

| Comments: | Just found this site, and it's great. Brings back a lot of fond memories not just of The Beau Brummels themselves but of some of the nice people who are fellow fans I've been lucky enough to "meet" (even though just virtually) over the years.
I corresponded heavily with Joey Hornick in the late 70s/early 80s. Still have some of his letters, and I'm sure some of the live shows he sent me, somewhere. Like several others, I was at the Smiling Dog Saloon in Cleveland for the '75 reunion tour. I even snuck a crappy cassette deck into the place and taped both sets! In addition to "It's Been a Lousy Day," another unrecorded song they did on this tour that I really liked was "Melody." What people need to realize is that this live version of Brummels '75 was way more powerful that the Warners album, as good as it was. Nice to see a post from Dan Levitt, who added some very tasty guitar work to this version of the BB. Dan, or anyone else who was there: remember when Dec went to take his harmonica solo on "Tennesee Walker" and the mic stand suddenly telescoped down to about two feet high? Dec gamely got down on his knees to play the rest of it, to the delight and cheers of the crowd! My Brummels memories, of course, go back much further. "Just a Little" was in heavy rotation whenever my best friend in high school and I spun 45s, and I remember walking to a record store a good mile and a half away to buy the "Don't Talk to Strangers" single when it came out. Thanks to all Beau Brummels for the great music. |

Don Irving will be making his first appearance with The Brummels since 1966, at The Summer Of Love Festival, so it should be fun. Petersen injured his leg, so he might not be able to appear, but I hope Ron Elliott and Declan Mulligan will show up. It would be nice to see them all in a photo together, anyway. I see you quoted the Bob Dylan song, "She Belongs To Me". One Of Our favorites. We did a nice version of that one in our live act in the early/mid '90s. Sal's voice is particularly well-suited to interpreting Dylan material. We were doing it with electric 12-string and steel guitar, a unique comination. |

| Comments: | Hope I don't take up too much space! I've wanted to send a message for quite a while, now, but I've been busy writing a letter to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I also have to re-send a message to DIG Records THANKING them for selling me Stoneground's farewell concert CD (computer glitch, I guess), so you see, I've been a little busy. I was blessed to have the money to fly down to California from where I live (Seattle, WA), and DOUBLY blessed to have friends and loved ones willing to drive me from Oakland to Folsom just so I could see Sal's recent show. Seeing him so happy (with a GREAT band)and performing with such ageless energy was PRICELESS to me, worth EVERY penny and every moment. When I met him, I was surprisingly quite relaxed, but still a little bit tongue-tied, so I might not have thanked him properly. Sal, if you're out there, I THANK you once again for the autograph. I will treasure it for a LIFETIME, just as I will ALWAYS treasure meeting you. You were just as gentlemanly as I've always imagined, and you STILL inspire a world of stories. Of course, you've been quite an inspiration to me for a long time, so this can't be news to anyone, certainly not you. Sal, you are IRREPLACEABLE, so PLEASE keep singing and playing, for as long as it gives you joy, because it gives US joy too - probably more than you'll ever realize, in my case. Although I'm sure very few people truly know you, I bet there are a lot of us out there who truly care about your health and happiness. It warmed my heart to see you in such great health, great energy and great voice. Take GOOD care of yourself, Sal, and savor the care that others give you, too - Your Student and Admirer, Melanie. | Comments: | Not too many people have a copy of that single "Back To Life/Native Son", since it was recorded and distributed, primarily, as a demo, sent out to record companies in an attempt to attract a recording deal. "Native Son" is a song that Declan wrote and sang. "Back To Life" is one that Ron Elliott and I wrote together, with me singing lead, under my previous stage-name, John Hjort. We later did studio recordings with Sal that never made it to vinyl.

| Comments: | Im a huge Beau Brummel fan, Im seriously glad to find a live CD available from before the reunion tour with 9 unreleased songs I have everything by the Brummels so its a thrill when something i dont have comes about. There were 2 bootleg Brummel items at one time, on was Again ON The Road, it was on vinyl and had cuts from the reunion album along with Are You Happy,Just A Little, and Laugh,Laugh...it also had the unreleased "Its Been A Lousy Day"..the other bootleg was on CD called "Calling Mr. Slate"
which was a 1975 concert in addition a few acoustic live things with Ron and Sal, the most interesting being a suite entitled "Wanderingman", similar to Ron Elliot's Candlestickmaker. One interesting item i own is a single from the early 80's...one side was "Native Son" and the other was "Back to Life"...no Sal on this single but Ron and Declan where there. I saw the Brummels on their 75 tour at the Smiling Dog Saloon in Cleveland and would like to see them once more sometime except i never here about when they appear until after its over, i would have like to have been at Cavestomp for instance...if anyone knows of any Brummel rarities around..let me know, id still like to see a CD of missing Triangle and Bradley Barn era stuff..I know there was a song that was supposed to be on Triangle i believe called "Snowman Song", Sal sang it on a radio interview once...take care....John |

| Comments: | I absolutely LOVE this band, I have for a very long time. I'm 37 and I've been listening since I was a child (dad was a musician). I remember seeing them doing Laugh Laugh on the Flintstones and even more importantly performing in the Tommy Kirk/Beau Bridges/Ron Howard/Toni Basil film Village of the Giants. |

| Comments: | I lived about a block away from the Morocco Room in San Mateo California and was lucky enough to see them on a regular basis. I made sure I got a front seat. This was before they hit it big. They were so good and their harmonies were exquisite. |

| Comments: | What period of time are you referring to? "Don" Abbott
played drums for The Black Velvet Band (with Ron Meagher & Declan Mulligan), about '69 to '74, and the group played very occasionally as The Beau Brummels. |

| Comments: | I believe my Father in law my have played in the band
briefly as a drummer. His name is Chuck/Charles Abbott. He would have done this in San Fransico in the Phillmore District. If anyone has any information please contact me. I would like to get a song, album, or recording. He also did some with with The Grass Roots. Any help would be greatly appreciated |

| Comments: | I've listened and played the brummel's songs for thirty years and have never grown tired of them. I saw them live in Cleveland in the late sixties at the Smiling Dog Saloon definitely some great memories. I got a chance to talk to Ron at intermission, he was friendly and took the time to have a real conversation. I have gotten most thier music on CD from Sundazed records, E-bay and the new live one through thier web site. I understand Sal still sinngs in CA. and is considering an album, I spoke to his producer recently and it is on "hold". My favorite record is Bradley's Barn and favorite sonf is Singing cowboy off thier reunion album in 1975 also one of thier best albums. |

| Comments: | Cass - like your new site design. Thanks for the help in finding a copy of "Triangle." Tho' I wanted a CD I was happy to 'settle' for a sealed vinyl lp. I remaster to CD and now the world is right again after 20+ years. Also, thanks to John Eckert, Don Sutton, and Gary Cornelius for their invaluable assistance in locating and obtaining the album.
This album was an important part of my 'formative' hippie years along with the Airplane, Janis, the Doors, Jimi, CSN, and the Dead. The haunting lyrics and melodies of this record stayed with me even though someone stole my copy over 20 years ago. Sal's voice stirred something primal in me and Ron's music is simply enchanting - like the Magic Forest this concept album weaves the listener through. |

You were The Beau Brummels' most ardent supporter, while I was working with them, and you sent me a lot of great tapes, and memorabilia. Hope you're doing well, and I hope I hear from you............Jackson Hart |

| Comments: | Greetings to All,
It is great to finally find a site dedicated to one of my favorite groups. I remember "The Beau Brummelstones" as a child and bought ALL of their albums as a teenager in the 1970's. Sal's voice is unique and fantastic. I think that Ron Elliott is the most underated songwriter in the history of American Rock 'n Roll and that the Brummels never got the recognition that they deserved. They mastered that acoustic 12-string/bass/percussion sound and made it their own. I have turned several friends into fans as well. I hope that this site expands and grows and I wish it the best of luck. Many thanks to Ron, Sal, Ron, John and Dec for all of the great music. I'm a fan for life. And Ron Elliott, if you see this, God Bless you and thanks for all of the great music. You are one of my "guitar heroes." I hope that you are feeling well. Take care. |

| Comments: | "Laugh Laugh I thought I would die. It seemed so funny to me." I was watching The Flintstones the other day with my kids. It was an old one and it had Beau Brummels on there.
They were a really great band that came along at a really right time. |
